This might require some explanation. At the very end of the session, the boys wanted to track some choir on one of the songs. They weren't sure of they wanted to do it until they've tried it, and to avoid spending 20 minutes digging up a headphone distro (and 5 sets of headphones), this was the test-solution. Eventually, we wound up doing it with headphones and a C414 :D (A B58A is far from ideal for recording a choir)

I had the pleasure of having to record the great guys of Donut Brothers (www.donutbrothers.dk).
We had a great night, and got some good tunes tracked, and while they were playing, listening or reviewing the recordings, I snapped some pics of them.
(REALLY digging B/W for pictures from recording-sessions)

image: Recording tracks for Shoe (inverted negative)
Boston, Massachusetts. Taken with a converted Polaroid Pathfinder 110A on expired T-664, f/8 for 6 seconds. Photo by Shoe. Polaroid negative scanned (RGB) & inverted.
Here i am in the "iso booth" recording a baritone track for Uncle Shoe's next recording. OK, it's actually a closet at the end of his hallway, but hey, there are rugs hung up to dampen the reflection and two really nice mics in there, so "iso booth" isn't all that far off.
Foreground right is Shoe's recording station on wheels: an iMac running ProTools. Above my head are camera bags (of course). They help dampen the sound (yeah, that's it). Here's a shot from tonight of Shoe at the controls.
sound: Same Old Moon (Uncle Shoe & friends) (3:38) [ listen ]
Here's a rough mix of one of the pieces we recorded: Same Old Moon by Joseph E. Howard (1905). Uncle Shoe, ukulele & vocal, yours truly, bass clarinet. Here's a shot of us celebrating with some IPA right after finishing these tracks. You can almost smell the hops, right?

Download the album via FrostWire

Practically a regular here on Frostclick, Wordsmith returns with a brand new Mixtape, Prelude To the King. True to form, the album is a great display of smooth beats, catchy rhythm, as well as awesome mic skills from Word and crew.
There's really no need to argue whether this mixtape is worth your time. Pretty much anything Wordsmith has released has always held the bar high enough to warrant a listen and eventually a download.
Prelude To The King is no different of course, marching in with 15 tracks that bob and sway with beats worthy of welcoming any hip hop royalty.
As expected the rapper/producer doesn't hold back when it comes to bringing in the cavalry to complete his mix. Featuring contributions from talented producers like Strada and Rafpak as well as other artists like Soulstice, CuzOh!Black, and Steven Drakes to name a few.
The album starts off with a short introductory track titled The Ghost of Wordsmith's Past which is than cleverly followed by The Ghost of Wordsmith's Present and The Ghost of Wordsmith's Future, turning everything you hear into one coherent experience. Moving along, like much of Word's songs, Define Me Classic, does not stop at catchy beats but also display narrative lyrics that share the rapper's definition of his sound.
Certain tracks see the rapper in his comfort zone, take, 8 Track Zoom, for instance. Produced by Strada, the song has a smooth feel which is peppered by skillful rapping from the MC. The song denounces using gadgets/software like ProTools, to enhance sound. Meanwhile, A Hero's Welcome, is quite heartfelt while Southern Symphony, features a more smooth dance, R&B flavor.
Much of the album is composed of easy-listening hip hop cuts; making it another worthwhile download from Wordsmith. Go ahead and grab it while it's hot. It shouldn't disappoint.
Excited to dive into the new logic and mess around with the new editing features, i should really be using protools because i dont create music but logic has been friendly too me for years now.
