A couple more images taken last night of the 1:18 scale Xeno/Proto head build (still work in progress)...already prepping the frame for the torso. #alien #aliens #covenant #xenomorph #protomorph #sculpture #avesstudio #avesFIXITsculpt Odd Studio Alien: Covenant News

I've been trying to get Ash to bed but he's all wired.....(rolls eyes), bad joke..very bad. Anyway, build progress on Ash- Sleep Chamber variant - ALIEN 79, 1:18 scale.

I sculpted an articulated version of the Facehugger Kane figure over a year ago before deciding it would become a static piece. I then made a mold of that body knowing that I could use it for various projects, mainly the sleep chamber versions of the male characters. I've already created a variant for Kane. Next one up is Ash.

Made a cast of the body and broke the piece up at their articulation points. I've wired the pieces together to help form an idea how the figure will fit into the chamber bed, which requires some adjustments as well. The next step will be to bring the pieces together as a seamless figure with no articulation points present. Looks a bit out of proportion now but that will all change. The chamber's bedding will also be sculpted over to fit the figure and hold in place.

The next figure to get the sleep treatment will be Lambert (moving counter clockwise) - still deciding if the females should be topless or use the small band that went across their chest (kinda silly in the reference images if you ask me). Perhaps a variant? We'll see. Never a dull moment LOL! #ash #ashisarobot #sleepchamber #diorama #nostromo #alien #aliens #aliencovenant #sculpting

Build status on the Protomorph (Xeno) - Alien: Covenant - 1:18 scale. Textured the acrylic dome using rough to fine sanding pads. When painted, this will give the dome an organic look. The final sculpt isn't complete, this is just a test on the dome. #alien #aliencovenant #xenomoprh #protomorph #sculpture #vacforming

Usually the first attempt at a new alien dome would require at least one adjustment so that the dome "snaps" into place....This time though, success straight from the gate!!! This dome snaps perfectly onto the alien head and hugs the contours just underneath.

Images you see here are of both the master sculpt and initial cast with domes attached. I increase the tones in the images so you can see the shell of the clear dome.

More images to come as I continue with the inner jaw and tendons - am thrilled this step in the vac forming was the only step needed. :) #alien #aliencovenant #protomorph #xenomorph #vacuumforming #PETG #dome #sculpting #success

Sculpt progress on the Xenomorph - ALIEN: Covenant - 1:18 scale. Had time to work on the Xenomorph head sculpt a bit - close to completion, at least this phase. The next step will be to sculpt the jaw separately (you'll see the frame for the jaw I'm sculpting in a couple images posted). I also will begin building a buck for forming the clear dome that -hopefully- will snap on and off the finished head sculpt when complete. I was successful with the 79 beast so fingers crossed it will happen again. Starting to work out the build to the upper torso but nothing to show at the moment.....stay tunes, more to come. #alien #aliencovenant #xenomorph #chestburster #david8 #prometheus #aliens #giger #sculpture #avesstudio #avesFIXITSculpt

Sculpt update on the Protomorph (Xenomorph) for Alien: Covenant. 1:18 scale, work in progress. Sculpting with Aves FIXIT sculpt - from Aves Studio LLC

Busy sculpting the lower abdomens of three projects so far, this being one of them. Completed the spinal column last night - not worried about limited to the articulation at this point. Only caring about the sculpt. Articulation can be solved in the casting phase where I don't have to cause damage to the master sculpt...."cause damage" may seem a little harsh. How about "make adjustments" lol! More updates to come.

Some images of a test cast of the Protomorph (Xenomorph) Head sculpt and Jaw. Cast was made using smooth-on Smooth Cast 320. I resculpted the teeth of the head as I was not happy with the softness of the detail pulled from the cast. The jaw fits in nicely - more detail shots (profiles) will be shown soon. Once the dome is made, the inner mouth and tendons will be attached to complete the first master. Then I will work on a couple variants. #alien #aliens #covenant #protomorph #xenomorph #sculpture #avesstudio #avesFIXITsculpt #smoothon #smoothcast320

Sculpt update on the Protomorph - Alien: Covenant and the beginnings of the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - both 1:18 scale.

Almost have the upper torso sculpt complete for the Protomorph. Need to complete sculpt detail around the shoulders and back. The lower torso and abdomen has a completed frame ready to be sculpted. A little flimsy right now but once the sculpt is complete is will give the upper body more stability.

The Newborn from Alien: Resurrection. A very early update - not much at this point but you can see where I'm going with it. Always felt sorry for this creature in the film...and it's death was HORRIBLE!!! Very hard to watch and way over the top in my opinion. Still one of my least favorite films from the ALIEN franchise but this beast was a great idea design wise in my opinion. They way it was used?...that's another story. Hope to have a handful of variants of the head sculpt - Neutral, "Mommy", "Fire BAD" and tongue LOL! Those that have seen the film know what I'm talking about.

Sculpt update in the Protomorph (Alien: Covenant) 1:18 scale and the Praetorian Xenomorph (Aliens: Defiance) 1:18 scale - all works in progress.

For what time I had this weekend I was able to sculpt most of the exoskeleton of the upper body. Still have the back and spine to complete. The abdomen will be separated into two pieces similar to how Revoltech engineered their alien figures. In fact, I've cast several copies of the revoltech abdomen, dremeled them down and will sculpt over the frames. I've already used this technique with the Spitter alien and it looks to work fine.

As for the Praetorian, I am sculpting the Big Chap (79 Alien) all over again, just in a larger scale. Began with the shoulders and will move onto the upper chest this week. As far as the tendons on the mouth...I'm thinking of going back and removing the clay sculpt and add clear hot glue after painting the creature. The effect worked wonderfully with various versions of my 79 beastie...

Sculpt progress on the Praetorian (Egg Layer) Xenomorph - 1:18 scale - Alien: Defiance. Work in progress using Aves FIXIT sculpt from Aves Studio LLC.

YES! Back to some sculpting at last! Sorry for the delay guys/gals - life put things on hold for a bit. Hurricane Irma was a beast - and my prayers and well wishes for those whose been affected by the recent storms: Harvey, Irma and now Maria...Mother Nature tends to remind us of whose in charge from time to time. Which there was a gentler way.

Continued sculpting the upper torso on the Praetorian which shares the same body as the 79 Giger alien but at a larger scale. I'll share a scale shot later to let you see the difference. The sculpt you see is quite clean...but not for long. It's an exoskeleton of a creature designed to protect the queen as well as it's hive - the body needs be roughed up a bit. Not much as I have enjoyed the details of the sculpt and don't want to loose it. Just some scratches, breaks and pop marks...nothing too heavy. Working on the piping for the back with the lower abdomen and upper arms next on the table.

Sculpt progress on Giger's Necronom IV - ALIEN - 1:18 scale. From what time I had this weekend (with was very little), I was able to begin filling in the rest of the head sculpt, keeping in mind this piece will be sporting a clear dome. Unfortunately I will be sanding down and sculpting the mouth and chin of the beast again - after seeing the work through the lens I was unsatisfied with how it appeared. This profile looks fine but the head on shot leaves much to be desired. The initial sculpt will have the beast "shining" its teeth, while future version(s) will have the mouth open. More to come...#alien #Giger #necronomIV #conceptart #biomechanicalart #sculpting #miniature #nostromo

The Xenomorph - Alien: Covenant - 1:18 scale. Began working on the skull of the beast using as many reference images as I could find. The head and the neck will be sculpted seperately for articulation purposes. Unlike the Big Chap 79, this creature will have a much larger range of articulation so it won't be as "humanly elegant" so to speak..even though it was born from a human host (scratches head). I love the design with the beast striped of it's biomechanics and given a slender yet aggressive look. A great interpretation of the Giger's masterwork.

Sculpt progress on the Xenomorph - ALIEN: Covenant - 1:18 scale. Scale shot! I should do more of these.

Finished sculpting the jaw of the beast. Getting ready to cast and replicate so the dome can be made. The tendons that stretch from the jaw will be sculpted on the final castings as I plan to create several head variants.

Fans have mentioned this is a Protomorph and not a Xenomorph? I understand that it is up for debate. What do you think?

Giger's Necronom IV - ALIEN - 1:18 scale. Based on Giger's painting of Necronom IV and later concept sketches that would eventually become the nightmare we all fell in love with. Again, I have started on the head sculpt using all reference images possible to get a 3 dimensional look of the creature. The figure will feature standard articulation. I plan on 3-4 different head sculpts, one being the phallic version seen in Necronom IV. This version will feature a clear dome so excited to figure out how to achieve that!
