In 1967, Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve was declared a protected marine life conservation area and underwater park. Formed within a volcanic cone, today Hanauma Bay offers a pristine marine ecosystem after the City and County of Honolulu laid out a plan in 1990 to restore the bay, after years of use from the millions of visitors who visit and love to snorkel Hanauma Bay. Voted Best Beach in the United States in 2016, volunteers have a booth located on the beach level to help visitors learn about conservation of the reef and the types of fish that live there.
In 2002 a marine education center was opened for visitors and part of the conservation plan requires first-time visitors to watch a 9 minute video before entering the park so they can learn about the marine life, preservation and safety rules for the park.

Wadi Rum is a protected desert wilderness in southern Jordan almost 300 Km South of Amman city (Capital of Jordan). It features dramatic sandstone mountains and Natural Arches. Many prehistoric inscriptions and carvings line rocky caverns and steep chasms. The natural water source of Lawrence’s Spring is named after British Lieutenant Lawrence of Arabia, who allegedly washed there.
Wadi Rum in Jordan was used for filming the external scenes as the surface of Planet Mars in the Hollywood movie (The Martian) and many other movies.

Oh I wish this had been true. No leopards on this safari, but lots of wonderful scenes in the beautiful wilderness of Botswana.
Several folks have mentioned recently that the animals look so happy. I know that zoos serve their purpose in way, BUT animals shouldn't be in captivity. If one is fortunate enough to go on safari, the one thing that will strike you the most is the happiness of the animals.
There really is a difference and it is particularly noticeable in peaceful Botswana. Visitors are limited and the animals are protected by the army and the staff of the wildlife preserves.

Embleton Tower is a peel tower and Grade I listed building in the village of Embleton in Northumberland, England. built in 1395, the tower was built to protect the minister and church goers of Embleton's Church of the Holy Trinity after the village suffered from a raid by the Scots.
The tower was built in 1395, at a cost of £40. Mentioned as the vicar's property in 1415, the tower was remodelled in the 16th century. The vicarage was built in the 1700s attached to the Peel Tower.

Bolivar Flats on the west end of the Bolivar Peninsula is a protected shorebird sanctuary managed by the Houston Audubon Society. It serves as a winter home to numerous migrating shorebirds and a summer nesting ground for various terns and plovers and their likes. On this morning, in addition to multiple groups of American Avocets and American White Pelicans, there were also congregations of Western Sandpipers, Short-billed Dowitchers, and even a flock of more than 30 Snowy Egrets all in the immediate vicinity of Galveston's north jetty (seen here in the background).
Comme tous les rapaces, la buse variable a été classée nuisible très longtemps et à ce titre, détruite systématiquement. En France, la protection légale accordée aux rapaces en 1972 a contribué à la remontée de ses effectifs. Si sa population n’est pas considérée comme menacée, des actes de braconnage demeurent une cause de sa mortalité. À l’inverse, il est le bienvenu sur les zones cultivées. Le régime alimentaire à base de rongeurs fait de cet oiseau un auxiliaire précieux des agriculteurs qui, dans de nombreux pays, parsèment leurs champs de perchoirs pour les attirer et favoriser la régulation des populations de campagnols.
À l’instar de beaucoup de prédateurs, la buse est opportuniste. Pourvue d’une vue perçante et d’une excellente ouïe, la buse variable se positionne en hauteur (sur le pieu d’une clôture de champs ou sur une branche) et reste à l’affût pendant de longs moments. Le rapace sait aussi repérer ses proies en vol stationnaire. Lorsqu’un bruit ou un mouvement l’alerte, elle fond sur sa victime, la tue avec ses griffes puissantes et acérées, la dépèce et la dévore sur place ou l’emmène jusqu’à son habitat.
En Europe, la buse variable se nourrit principalement de micro-mammifères, majoritairement de campagnols, souris et rats. Si les rongeurs et les taupes représentent l’essentiel de son apport alimentaire, le rapace consomme également dans une moindre mesure des mammifères plus gros tels que de jeunes lapins et lièvres et des oiseaux, de la taille des pigeons, faisans ou perdrix. Si besoin, la buse variable est aussi susceptible de manger des reptiles, des batraciens, des insectes (scarabées, criquets, sauterelles) et des vers de terre. L’hiver, en cas de disette, elle peut aussi se nourrir de charognes.

Widely known as the gardener’s friend, the robin has been known to sit on a spade and wait for the chance to grab a grub that appears from the soil. This one was caught landing on its lookout post (spade handle )
