FADE INTO YOU – MAZZY STAR

ABUNDANCY

Pure of heart lights the way

shines like sun in the month of May

carries me throughout this day

Abundancy of Love

How I wish I could slip away

to my little island not far away

and linger longer; warm hazy days

Abundancy of Being

I can see you in my dreams

feel your touch and all it seems

is all I need and tranquil streams

Abundancy of Soul

Roses perfumed sweetness flows

cherry blossom falls like snow

seasons come and seasons go

Abundancy of Nature

Silence; tranquil; peace and quiet

nightingales sing throughout the night

twinkling winking stars and moonlight

Abundancy of Heaven

Close my eyes and turn my cheek

love me if I'm who you seek

refresh my spirit when I feel weak

Abundancy of Life

Open my heart and let me sing

beauty is found in everything

be more aware and life will bring

Abundancy of All.

FIX YOU - COLDPLAY

Leaving behind all that I know

travelling slowly; nowhere to go

leaving the Winter; cold layers of snow

falling so gently now; falling

Leaving the ones whom I once held dear

travelling the pathway; calm; without fear

leaving; tears falling; my reasons unclear

falling so gently now; falling

Leaving the old ways in search of the new

travelling alone now; I journey without you

leaving this sanctuary; what else can I do

falling so gently now; falling

Leaving the old me; renewing my vows

travelling; obedient; head in the clouds

leaving in search of the here and the now

falling so gently now; falling

Leaving means leaving and not looking back

travelling the parallel lines of this track

leaving and grieving; heart heavy; sky black

falling so gently now; falling

Leaving the stars and the moon to the night

travelling beyond to find rest and respite

leaving the grievances of all who would fight

falling so gently now; falling

Leaving the earth; my feet leave the ground

travelling on wings that are heavenly bound

leaving this real world; cacophony of sound

falling so gently now; falling

Leaving is easy once my mind is made

travelling; remembering sweet music you played

leaving a few notes to fade in the shade

falling so gently now; falling

Leaving behind a footprint so small

travelling above and away from it all

leaving a memory you may hear me call

falling so gently now; falling

Leaving was never the plan I first thought

travelling aimlessly; uncertainty wrought

leaving the game like a ball never caught

falling so gently now; falling.

ONLY TO FLY – CHRIS REA

Zebra fly, zebra fly

what are you doing here

where are you going on this fine day

in your striped pyjamas

watching the panorama

can you hear the sea come in

to our little bay

have you been up to London

in your pin-striped suit

tell me was it busy

did you have a hoot

did you take your car

or did you just commute

Zebra fly, zebra fly

with your new Doc Marten boots

how I love the retro vibe

it's trending now in hot pursuit

with your big and stylish sunglasses

tinted red do you imbibe

a Pimm's and High Tea on the lawn

will you take a bribe

or can I gatecrash anyway

and join you on the bench

a Summer's day is here to stay

to leave is such a wrench

Zebra fly, zebra fly

please do mind the gap

at the station there are signs

next to the Underground map

you're looking good against the wood

you seem so cool; relaxed

your wings transparent, clear and bright

shining like they've just been waxed

Zebra fly, zebra fly

one more thing before I go

can a zebra really fly

an urban myth or no ...

DINGLY DELL - LINDISFARNE

Fading ideals and memories

hidden beneath the stack

of letters and photographs

piled so high; yellowing

on dusty shelves once painted black

now peeling and dimple-dinted

by hammers and glancing blows

like my heart has taken

what my soul already knows

that we can never get back those times

of sweet halcyon days

when endless rhymes

fell from my lips into your ears

you held me so tight and quelled my fears

but like back then and so like now

the memory of you still dries my tears

and I feel your presence throughout the years

but there's no real use in looking back

except as a reminder that once all was well

those days of laughter in Dingly Dell

the smudges of mud from our runs in the hills

collapsing and breathless and laughing like stills

from an old movie we watched on cold Winter nights

over and over until we could recite

each and every phrase word perfect to our delight

smiling eyes joined our souls and set passions alight

now all I have left are those memories

they keep me warm; those sweet histories

but that's alright as long as I know

that the struggle for you that ran deeper than snow

is no longer a struggle; no longer a blow

you found new horizons; new sunsets and sunrise

the pale yellow moon lights up all your highways

you travel alone without me by your side

tucked into your breast pocket a note where I lied

telling you I was ok and not to worry about me

I loved you so much; I let you fly free

I never much wanted a caged bird you see

I would never me happy; you would never feel free

that is what true love is

the ability to know

when it's the right thing to stay

or the right thing to go

and I know it's the right thing in letting you go

because I also feel freer and I hope that you know

it will never be over; this love that I have

but I no longer feel burdened and I rarely feel sad

we can live with the peace in our minds and our souls

and the space in our heart that's reserved for us all

to let new love in; like the cherry tree flowers

that fill up my senses and transform my hours

to days and then weeks; to months and then years

until finally I get it; there is no reason to fear

we all must let go before we get back

the love that we give; the freedom we lack

I hope you are thinking as I'm thinking of you

the love we created will serve someone new.

.. loud, intense, and although people were yelling, little was heard above the roaring of the wind. Though there were many an intrepid soul on the beach that day, there was a sense of being alone, just me and the ancient elements. In this place the internal dialogue seems to be magnified as if spurred on by the raging wind, the volume turned up bringing a distinct clarity, a comforting haven in the midst of the turmoil. An unexpected peace, a shelter with walls of noise, and sand and wind. I walked on with a sense of thankfulness thinking clearly...

Mountains Make Me Happy

Being in a forest also makes me happy

Having both makes me blessed

Seeing trees thousands of years old

Brings out a wonder in shared world

I then see the blue skies above

And know I am truly experiencing life.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one afternoon in Inyo National Forest while walking the Methuselah Walk. The view is looking to the north up a nearby mountainside seemingly covered with those ancient bristlecone pine trees. I felt the blue skies would be more of a negative space, so I decided to angle my Nikon SLR camera and zoom in so that this mountainside filled up most of the image. There would be a portion of blue skies though to act as a color contrast to the earth tones present in the rest of the image. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

It's the first day of the month, and this is a first of a new series. Hopefully I can upload some more in the future...

Good Morning!

My Hand, My Reverent Hands

Holding a camera

Capturing a small snippet of now

Which will be gone a moment later

But not forgotten

Or at least not for a while

Clouded memories of a distant past

Or was that yesterday

It's easy to get lost in thought holding my camera

And seeing what was or used to be.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one morning in Capitol Reef National Park while hiking the Chimney Rock Trail. My thinking in composing this image was to capture a layered look with the nearby foreground leading up to the cliff edge with the sage grass and nearby old tree. That would then lead to the monocline and Waterpocket Fold present in the middle part of the image and national park. The blue skies and clouds would be that color contrast to complement the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image.I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Water Cascading Down Stream

I sit upon a waterfall

My fur spotted with grass and bramble

Where are the fish?

Where are the salmon?

I will sit some more and maybe walk around

The older one in the corner stares blankly at the water

I think he's also asking about the salmon

I'm hungry!

So goes on the day at Brooks Falls.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one afternoon in while at the Falls Platform watching the brown bears and their quest for salmon in Katmai National Park & Preserve. A friend and I spent many an hour watching these bears move about, some seemingly standing for a long time as they waited or put their heads in the water looking for salmon to eat. These platforms for watching the bears are truly one of the best spots to observe one small part of the wildness of nature in this national park :-) My poem was kind of from the point of view of this one bear as it just continued to sit, and sometimes move about waiting for salmon to make that six foot jump over the falls.

I captured this with my Nikon D800E SLR camera using a Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 lens.

"But friendship is the breathing rose, with sweets in every fold. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

------

I'm a sucker for wildflowers; more so when they're truly wild in a field. I love them, they brighten any spot, even the side of a road that's riddled with potholes.

And so, this morning when I was walking back from an appointment and spotted this field of wild growth I had to pull the camera out and see what I could capture.

No field is ever the same. If I were to go back tomorrow, it would be different and I think that's what I love about places like this.

Variety, it's the spice of life!

Hope everyone has had a good day.

We Never Know When It’s Over

There’s not a time

And not a place

Only those who live know that we’re gone

So try to make a point to not miss anything

Whether it’s the moon shining in the evening twilight

Venus rising in the morning skies

Mountain vista that stretches for miles

Swimming with a dolphin

Or even a kiss

We’re never coming back

But I’m here now and loving it!

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one morning while enjoying a boat ride on the Manatee, Dolphin and 10,000 Islands Beach Eco-Tour. This is located in the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge (based on a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service map) with a view looking to the northeast and port side of the boat I was on. A pod of dolphins was playfully jumping up in the air in the boat wake. I was able to capture a few different images of them above the water and definitely took advantage of the subject detection on my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera to lock in a focus.

I Met Another on the Road, And We Both Enjoyed the Mountains

For no wrongs have been done to me when I walk amongst them

I have heard said to live in a beautiful mansion. Why?

I say it is far better to live amongst the woods and mountains!

For I have lifted my eyes to look at a beauty of a distant peak

And let it fill me with grandeur of a full day.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one early evening not long before sunset at a marked viewpoint for Denali along the main highway leading out of Talkeetna. With the golden hour light, the grandeur of Denali came out...really came out! To capture this image, I pulled out my Tamron SP 150-600mm lens. I decided that I wanted to zoom in as much as I could while still keeping a little around the mountain peak to complement the setting for this image. I then made adjustment to shutter speed and aperture until I got the look I wanted.

I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 4 where I added a Foliage, Polarization and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.

The Outdoors Have a Good Connection for Travel

Sometimes I just need to walk outside and feel a breeze blowing across the skin on my forearm

I am blessed to hear the morning chorus of song birds and their songs

I look up and see the streaks of light come across the skies, adding highlights to clouds passing by

It's then I find I've walked a few miles, lost in random thought...but now I have a smile.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one late mooning while walking along the shores and dock area of Wonder Lake in Denali National Park & Preserve. The image view captured is one looking to the south across the waters of Wonder Lake to the snowcapped peaks of Denali and the Alaska Range. My thinking was to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward, bringing out more of a sweeping view across this national park setting but also to minimize any flattening that tends to happen with wider angle views., The peaks of Denali would therefore rise high above in both the image and imagination. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2.
