I know the Cheerleader doesn't really fit with the other pics I've been taking lately. But I noticed she wasn't in my Faces of Lego set yet, so I thought it was time to add her. Plus I finished one of my two essays today (just need to do a quick proofreading sweep tomorrow!) so I thought today was a good day for this shot! (The only day that would be better is when I'm done the second paper, but I didn't really want to wait!)
16 Things...plus 4: Day 356, Dec. 22, 2008
(Tagged by CharlaneG)
1. I enjoy antiquing. It’s about the search and discovery. It’s also about the history and stories behind something. (I’ve always felt I had an old soul.) I often don’t know what I’m looking for, but I know it when I see it.
2. I revel in vintage coats and 1950s costume jewelry. While not everyday accoutrements, I do break them out on occasion. The spare use in some ways keeps them extra special.
3. I collect little things: bottle caps, wine corks, sea glass.
4. I’m addicted to cardigan sweaters. (I refuse to divulge the number of cardigans I own.) It’s not the most fashion-forward expression, and sometimes borders on grandfatherly. But cardigans are practical for someone who is often cold, and they can be slightly sassy (or that's what I tell myself).
5. I can be loyal to a fault.
6. I can be straightforward to a fault.
7. I think a heartfelt, handwritten letter is one of the highest expressions of affection and appreciation.
8. I nickname people, dogs on the street, places, events, desserts (Jon's Hammer Time comes to mind), and drinks (Jon's Snoop Dogs come to mind). Naming is a great act of creation.
9. I sing along to songs in public places like the grocery store. I took voice lessons throughout high school, so I can’t be too terrible.
10. I love Tom Petty. He’s always there for me. There’s a song for almost any life situation. Tom Petty was the first major concert I went to at Pine Knob outside of Detroit with a boy I had a crush on in high school. Nothing ever came of it, aside for a love of Tom.
11. I like to give and receive Eskimo kisses.
12. I have a metal plate and screws in my left arm. Broke it playing softball at 13. It didn’t heal right and required a couple surgeries.
13. I’m at home in the water, swimming, floating, diving. I grew up taking swimming lessons when I could touch the bottom of the shallow end. We got a backyard pool when I was still pretty young, and Lake Michigan was a short drive or bike ride away. I was a lifeguard for a summer when I was 18 at Pleasure Island, a now-closed water park in Muskegon. Living in mid-Michigan now, I sometimes feel a little landlocked, feel like Lake Michigan calls to me from across the state.
14. I’ve never been one of those women who eagerly held others’ babies. The idea of children makes me a little nervous. In some ways, I think I’d be a bad mom. (Maybe every parent feels that way.) I’m afraid I’d lose important pieces of my identity, and unsure if I’d ever find them again.
15. I don’t shy away from asking the hard questions. It stems from genuine curiosity and at times a reporter’s shrewdness. It can be brash and brazen. It can on occasion be impolite. I’ve tried to be gentler in recent years. I do feel asking questions is a craft, and people usually answer me. Maybe because my honest interest comes through. Maybe because I have an unintimidating stature.
16. I have a bum knee thanks to the 2nd floor Campbell Hall boys at Michigan State University. I was “recruited” (basically they needed more girls) to play intramural coed soccer. My knee had other plans.
17. I love to proofread. It’s a little sick, I know.
18. I like to drink whiskey sours, an old man’s drink I’ve been told. Maybe I’m trying to prove I’m tough or cantankerous. Maybe I just like to prove people’s assumptions about me are often incorrect.
19. I will never be a domestic goddess. I read too much, don’t dust enough, can’t sew, and dislike cooking.
20. I most fear him dying first. That's the risk taken when loving too fiercely.

I was proofreading for the second time till late at night. It takes much time and energy to complete a book. I sometime think my mental equilibrium might be upset if I could not know concentrate on photography in my spare time.
I suddenly understood why I am interested in macrophotography. When I went to the hospital last week I saw a stent which was taken by computerized axial tomography. The stent, which is a tubular support placed inside the coronary arteries and saved my life when I was sent to the hospital two years ago, is very small. I also saw the photograph of wires which ties my breastbone (I had a bypass surgery last year).
Getting back to my main subject I really like to take macro shot of this kind of butterfly, which is so small but energetically flying in the burning heat.
I've come a long way since this . I can manage to do what I need without much difficulty. A few little things are a bit more challenging. I can't grasp a needle long enough to thread it. The other thing is typing with the index finger. It keeps slipping off the key. I need to proofread everything and insert all the missing letters. It's been a bit swollen this week, the heat maybe?, but otherwise seems to be healing quite well.

Proofreading classmates' poetry in the library before class. Not my favorite thing in the world.
Also, promise ring. :)
It's official. The book is off with the proofreader who will hopefully catch every missing comma, or wrong use of it's/its for me. There will be final composition changes, and then it gets sent to the printer who will make a few thousand of these so they can appear online and in stores on June 18th.
The only addition to this cover is the endorsement of Wendy McClure of Poundy, a Bust magazine columnist, writer of "I'm Not the New Me", The Amazing Mackerel Pudding Plan, and a forthcoming book where cast-iron actually may make an appearance. Thanks to Wendy and the couple of other people who wrote endorsements for me. Thanks to everyone who pushed me to write the book, listened to me talk about how hard it was throughout the process, offered suggestions, ate food for me, and generally was there when I needed you.
Ok, I promised myself I wouldn't upload pics here until I get my butt back to writing and finish Chp.2! Wich I did! I opened my Word, and started writing! *tip, tip, tip*
Anw, please, George, roll drums please! *drum* I! Finished! Writing! BSD Requiem CHP.2! XD X10 000 I can't believe it, YES!
And so, with a happy head(DUUUUHH!! :P) I opened my game, and went to play with Walter. I wanted to see some things I've downloaded, and puf! I got an idea of making a piccy ^_^. The main thing is : I set all up, printscreened, opened photoshop, all over. Until I got a weird idea of frankensteining. I remembered Ana's leatest franky pic so I, the foolish mortal I am, tried to pull out something similar, since my hands are most of the time in my pockets, while standing >.>
And here it is! My first frankensteined pic EVER! True, the only frankensteined thing here is Walter's left arm(yes, your left) , but hey! I did it! My first and it looks believable!! I'm so happsy I could... clap? XP hahaha
BACK TO BSD!! Did I mention Chp.2 is ALL bloody written? Yes, i did o.O !
Now all I need is to get a proofreader and start taking pics!! ^_^
Sooo, this is, again, Walter Milo Constantine. I decided to start writing bios... Hey, sooner or later, guess I'll have too X(.

Date:
1758 (church); 1765–1767 (high altar)
Artists:
Sculptor: Veit Königer (1729–1792); cabinetmaker: Josip Herman (active c. 1750)
Denomination / Type of monument:
Religious, parish church, interior furnishing
Patron(s):
The church: the citizens of Prelog and the parish priest, Ivan Mihovil Smrekar; the high altar: Abbot Josip Gradičaj
History:
The parish priest, Ivan Mihovil Smrekar who was educated in Graz and in Vienna, commissioned the church in 1758. The citizens of Prelog paid for it with alms. In little over a decade (1765–1767) a monumental three-part high altar – a documented work of the sculptor, Veit Königer, and cabinetmaker, Josip Herman of Graz – furnished the altar financed by Abbot Josip Gradičaj. It is likely that the community were able to engage the outstandingly important sculptor, Königer, because of family connections in Croatia – his sister was married to the Varaždin sculptor, Josip (Josephus) Schranz – after whose death she married the sculptor Leopold Mayrhofer (active c. 1771).
Description:
The high altar, a monumental and typologically rare composition consisting of three altars architecturally connected, is a documented work by Styria's most important sculptor of the time, Veit Königer. His work betrays a clear and persistent element of Classicism, linked to his artistic training at the Vienna Academy, along with Rococo elements. The central altar is dedicated to the titular saint of the church, St. James, while the side altars are dedicated to St. Joseph and St. John Nepomuk. The central part of the Altar of St. James is accentuated by a pair of columns the width of which, on the mensa, a monumental tabernacle is placed adorned with a row of angels. Alongside the columns are imposing figures of the apostles St. Peter and St. Paul, the handling of which draws closely on the sculptures of the same saints on the Altar of St. Ignatius in Graz Cathedral. An imposing Holy Trinity in a sunburst halo crowns the altar. On the side altars, the placing of the ornamentation is more marked, aspiring to the picturesque. This outstanding sculptural achievement was an important stimulus for the leading Maribor sculptor, Joseph (Jožef) Holzinger (1735–1797), an inspiration seen in the disposition of his sculptures on the side altars of the church in Polenšak (Slovenia). A pulpit was installed in the church in Prelog before the altar (1760 is mentioned). According to stylistic analysis, the pulpit reliefs are likely to have been by Königer.

An elongated and elegant saintly figure with his head thrown back, it is a characteristic example of Königer’s sculptural idiom with its typical lyricism, suffusing the usually more robust figures of the two leading apostles with a pronounced spirituality.
