No. 348: How long?
I originally shot this photo during the lock down, I believe May 2020. I wanted to express my longing for a normalcy again, and had originally planned to put tally marks on the window. But I didn't like how it looked at the time and set it aside. A year later I actually got covid and was feeling trapped again, and decided to revisit the photo, putting a handprint instead.
I guess it's interesting...the original purpose of the photo was how long would the lockdown/quarantine be...and now a year later, after my uncle and friend have passed away from Covid, I guess the new question will be how long will it be before people stop dying from covid?
Will it be the new norm? Fear after every positive case? New variants that are constantly more aggressive? New vaccines? When will it stop?
Sorry for the rant, but expressing my thoughts. I am finally healthy again, and can actually taste food! Little things I'm thankful for. One thing this quarantine has done for me is jump start my creativity, and I can't wait to produce and share even more imagery. Fun fact: this photo was shot in my old house. Thank you all, and stay safe.

When you love someone who dies...are you lost? Or are you at a loss? Do you cling to the life that you once shared together? Or do you slowly slip away to your new norm? Locations and objects, that were once tangible moments, start to become fading memories. An empty seat, an empty house, turning into silent nights. Once recognizable, their face and voice begins to wane within your mind.

I find myself, especially as a photographer, constantly recording and taking photos of my loved ones. Death will inevitably happen, but will it happen too soon to my loved ones? Will I be ready? Or will it be I that departs and leaves my loved ones rocking away, reminiscing on the moments we had?

Happy New Year! Sorry to start off so morbid but this was such an awesome spontaneous photoshoot (hence the no sketch part)! We were sitting in the mountains of North Carolina when I took a Snapchat photo and my model said grab the chair! We're taking a photo! 😂 We had only about 10 minutes, before it started to rain and possibly our neighbors wondering what the hell we were doing. I am quite pleased with the results...and look at that! A new photo within the first week of 2022! Hopefully I can keep it up 😉

No. 68: The Fear of Hunger.

What would be the breaking point of someone's hunger? How far or desperate would they become? Is hunger easily visible? Or can people look composed while hiding this issue?

For my newest viewers, I did a Fear series for my college capstone where I visualized my 13 biggest fears. At the gallery I had a sign asking people to write down their biggest fears, in hopes that one day I'd use it as inspiration for a future piece. Here is one those pieces.

I truly wanted to use a centipede originally, but couldn't find one, dead or alive. Then one day, one of my students casually handed me a flower box, and told me her pet tarantula had died, and that I could keep it (Thanks Izzy 😂). I knew immediately I had to use it. I pray that I never have to feel this desperate.

I wanted this photo to be jarring. I used to do darker art, and it's definitely within my roots as an artist. I wanted my model (thank you DR!) to appear clean and pretty with a pure white plate, a juxtaposition to the dark, scary, dead creature not normally found on a dinner table.
️
On a side note, what's the craziest thing you've eaten? I've tried escargot, grasshopper tacos, and blue mountain oysters.
️
I'm finally getting better from covid, although it's been a whirlwind of emotions for me. Thanks to anyone who is still reading, and I'm excited to share more content.
