A beautiful Florida sunset at a little park by my house, that went from fiery orange to cool blue within a few minutes.

The coos aren't as cute and the hills not as green. But every once in a while here in the Ohio flatlands, we get a fairly nice sky... especially if you see a sunset and then look the opposite direction.

His birthday was just a few weeks ago, and he wanted to sit for a portrait to mark the day.

This view greets residents and visitors entering the south entrance to Austin's City Hall. Other than the striking design, one of the first things one notices is the artwork and sculpture that can be seen throughout the first three floors of the four-story building. This is known as the "People's Gallery," a display of over 160 artworks that, since 2005, has been an annual showcase for works by Austin artists and arts organizations. The People's Gallery reflects the artistic excellence and diversity of Austin, in addition to promoting the City's cultural and economic initiatives.

Austin’s copper-clad City Hall, completed in 2004, is the work of lead architect Antoine Predock, principal of Antoine Predock PC. Austin wanted its city hall building to fit the spirit of the city, which the Dallas Morning News has described as a "crazy-quilt vitality, that embraces everything from country music to environmental protests and high-tech swagger." The building's angular design has been widely praised. Predock has been quoted as saying that he designed the building "not as a "suit-and-tie" city hall, but rather as a reflection of the warm informality that characterizes Austin."

Along the boardwalk, Walborn Reservoir, Alliance, Ohio. By this time of year, the water is usually frozen over, and the landscape is white with snow. Not so this year.

Similar image to the Gore Range shot, but slightly different vantage point and done with iPhone 14 ProMax. Just for comparison's sake.

Okay, I’m gonna confess all and expose my ignorance here. I’ve been involved with iOS for years, and a friend of mine in Victoria Point (Brisbane) and one of my nieces have gotten me into using Portrait Mode heavily as of late, and using the Stage Light filter. The irony there is that neither one of them are professional photographers, but the three of us are artistically inclined! But I’ve learned a lot from those two.

Walborn Reservoir, near Alliance, Ohio. There used to be a tall pine visible on the horizon that held a nest for a breeding pair of bald eagles for more than a few years. Spring windstorms took the tree down, but they have since relocated to a nearby tree.

And you just might feel like a western sheriff. You might also find a badge, boots, and a holster at Kemo Sabe, Vail, Colorado.

He does not do this very often, thank God, but he has a few embarrassing stories he could tell about this exalted position. And in case you were wondering, he has learned to put the lid down!

This acrylic assemblage sculpture is the work of Austin artist Skip Myers (skipmyers.com). The work is on display at Austin City Hall through the spring of 2024.

From the artist: This is a found object assemblage piece depicting the Trojan Horse. Using found objects such as sticks, cabinet knobs, toys, used paint brushes and parts of a French press, an image of the fabled Trojan Horse presents itself.

He's sweet natured and gets along with everyone, including another female exotic shorthair and Dexter, the boy bulldog. Just playing with the new iPhone 14 ProMax (portrait mode). More images of Geo and the other creatures are in my Flora/Fauna album.

From AI on Safari, “The foundations at El Morro National Monument, specifically the ancestral pueblo of Atsinna, date back to around 1275 CE, with the pueblo itself giving rise to a thriving community.”

This abandoned farm tractor has probably seen better days. In fact, I don't think it's moved in the more than 10 years since I first noticed it resting comfortably off a back road in Brewster, New York.

We serve British comfort food with great flavour, including seaside favourite fish and chips, plus sharing platters and ice cream.

ABOUT OUR PUB

Built on the harbour front in the 1700's, the name derives from being the first place spices from around the world landed. We were historically located just outside the gates of old Portsmouth thus was lawless and home to press gangs for Nelson's Navy. Having just survived the ‘Blitzkrieg' in WWII, you can still find us with the best view in the heart of historic Portsmouth.”

I didn't coin that phrase. But it came from his Nikon-carrying best mate. And it just might have something to do with his high level of energy.

Parting

From the threshold a man looks in

He cannot recognise his house.

Her departure was like a flight

And everywhere are signs of havoc.

All the rooms are in chaos;

Tears and an aching head

Prevent him from seeing

The measure of his ruin.

Since morning there has been a roaring in his ears.

Is he awake or dreaming?

Why does the thought of the sea

Keep pushing into his mind?

When the great wide world

Is hidden by the frost on the window,

The hopelessness of sorrow

Is even more like the desert of the sea.

She was as near and dear to him

In every feature

As the shores are close to the sea

In every breaker.

As after a storm

The surf floods over the reeds,

So in his heart

Her image is submerged.

In the years of trial,

When life was inconceivable,

From the bottom of the sea the tide of destiny

Washed her up to him.

The obstacles were countless,

But she was carried by the tide

Narrowly past the hazards

To the shore.

Now she has gone away;

Unwillingly perhaps.

This parting will eat them up,

Misery will gnaw them, bones and all.

He looks around him.

At the moment of leaving

She turned everything upside down,

Flung everything out of the chest of drawers.

Till dusk he roams about

Putting back into the drawers

The scattered scraps of stuff,

The patterns used for cutting out,

And pricking himself on a needle

Still stuck in a piece of sewing,

Suddenly he sees her

And cries quietly.

I tell myself, "no more," but I can't help it. Sitting there over a baloney sandwich, this group has been staring at me for a few days. So I wondered how they'd look sort of backlit on the iPhone. Not half bad. They'll all be gone soon, and not here to tempt me anymore. Until next year.

An interior view of Austin's City Hall looking toward the south entrance. The inside atrium is lined with a stunning combination of Texas limestone and cooper.
