Award: Concrete Paver - Residential - More than 3,000 sf
Project Location: Sand Point, Michigan
Square Feet of Project: 3,240
Contractor: Esch Landscaping LLC
Main Product Manufacturer: Unilock
Project Designer: Matt Esch
This 3,300 square feet project was constructed on the beach of Lake Huron in Michigan. The house and landscape began on an empty lot between two homes using Unilock pavers.
The designer addressed elevations, proximity regulations with neighboring homes, and construction deadlines while working with clients living in another state. The owners required an outdoor kitchen, firepit, shower and sun bathing area, shade for comfort when entertaining guests and easy access to the beach.
The hardscape team met challenges by coordinating and sharing space with the home construction crews. This project began in March so the wind and weather caused difficult working conditions with site facing the open water.

Ki'Nicky did not enjoy her bath time :D
i wish i could have gotten a nice clear photo but she was shivering like mad while my mum was holding her...
Here I'm working on the new face-up.
After sanding and carving a bit, she got new colors. I used soft pastells and a bit acrylic paint.
National Atomic Testing Museum
Project Rover Nuclear Rocket Development
"First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth...Secondly...accelerate development of the Rover nuclear rocket. This gives promise of some day providing a means for even more exciting and ambitious exploration of space, perhaps beyond the moon, perhaps to the very end of the solar system itself."
President John E. Kennedy
Special Message to the Congress on Urgent National Needs, May 25, 1961
Development of a nuclear-powered rocket, Project Rover, began in the spring of 1955 under the joint sponsorship of the Air Force and the Atomic Energy Commission. Technology development began at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory's Pajarito Canyon Site in New Mexico. Air Force land was set aside in Nevada for testing nuclear rocket engines in 1956 and annexed to the Nevada Test Site in 1961. Beginning in 1958, major test-related facilities were constructed at Jackass Flats, a valley named after the wild donkeys and burros that grazed there. The facilities for assembling, disassembling, maintaining, and testing nuclear reactors and rocket engines were joined by a network of roads and the Jackass and Western Railroad (jokingly called "the world's shortest and slowest"). On August 31, 1960, the Atomic Energy Commission and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration established the joint agency Space Nuclear Propulsion Office to administer the Nuclear Rocket Development Station. Although Project Rover developed nuclear-powered engines superior in several respects to chemical-powered engines, it was terminated in January 1973 due to changing national priorities.
ANTHONY LISTER, MEGGS, EARS AND WEBUYYOURKIDS, LIVE AT PROJECT 5
aMBUSH Gallery and Cockle Bay Wharf are bringing four of Australia’s most defining and individual artists together at Cockle Bay Wharf, for the much anticipated second instalment of Project 5 – a live art and music event for charity.
The four dynamic works (2.4m x 1m) were produced during the three day Project 5 Live Art and Music Event at Cockle Bay in August. Anthony Lister, Meggs, Ears and Webuyyourkids unleashed their creative juices in front of thousands of people, using spray paints, stencils and brushes to create the one-off urban masterpieces.

In honour of Project Spectrum Green, I thought I'd share pictures of Julian's nursery. The paint colour is by Behr and is called "limelight."
This a picture of his future big boy bed which actually my husband's childhood bed. You may recognise the quilt as the backdrop for most of my finished objects. The light is great in there ;0)

Poole.
Further down Thames Street we reach the Mansion House Hotel, one of several buildings within th old town which illustrate Poole's 'Golden Age'. The house was built in th late 1770's for Isaac and Benjamin Lester, heads of an important merchant family that raded with Newfoundland. The dining room fireplace is decorated with marble fillets of cod as a proud reminder of the source of the family's fortunes. Today the Mansion House is a dining club and Hotel.
The fountain in the Piazza Colonna is a fountain in Rome, Italy, designed by the architect Giacomo Della Porta and constructed by the Fiesole sculptor Rocco Rossi between 1575 and 1577.
The fountain was one of a group of sixteen fountains built by Della Porta following the reconstruction of the Acqua Vergine aqueduct, a project begun by Pope Pius IV in 1561 and finished by Pope Pius V in 1570. The fountain itself was built under Pope Gregory XIII, best known for creating the Gregorian calendar. Like the other Roman fountains of its time, it was built to provide clean drinking water to the Roman residents, who before then had to drink the polluted water of the Tiber River. Also like the other fountains of its time, it operated purely by gravity; the source of the water was higher the fountain itself, causing the water to spout into the air.
The water for the fountain first arrived at the old Trevi Fountain, then went two reservoirs at the foot of the butte of San Sebastiancello, then through a series of the channels to the corner of via Condotti and the via del Corso, to Piazza Venezia, to the foot of the column of Marcus Aurelius. The source of the water for the fountain of Piazza Colonna was only 67 feet above sea level; like the Trevi Fountain, the Fontana della Barcaccia, and the fountains of Piazza Navona, all connected to the Acqua Vergine, the fountain of Piazza Colonna was unable to jet water high into the air
