I was inspired by the logo for the Milwaukee Bicycle Co. to create a new logo for the Bike Program.

It's not official or anything. I was just having fun playing around in Illustrator (and AutoCAD for the technical elements).

Of course, for those not familiar with the city, it's heavily based on the municipal flag of Chicago.

The Fall 2010 Student Hackathon brought in hundreds of students from 30 universities to NYU's Courant Institute for 24 hours of creative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.

Selected startups presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, and students formed groups to brainstorm and begin coding on their ideas. Many students worked into the night, foregoing sleep to fulfill their visions.

On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel, which selected the final winners.

hackNY hosts hackathons one each semester, as well as a Summer Fellows Program, which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment, a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student are expected to compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup.

During a Native American history-themed sleepover at the National Archives in Washington, DC, 101 kids and their grown-ups spent the night enjoying history-related activities, learning from special guests actor Martin Sensmeier, Jim Thorpe historians Bob Wheeler and Flo Ridlon, and Native American storyteller Perry Ground. After sleeping over night in the Rotunda, participants enjoyed a pancake breakfast made by the Archivist of the United States, David S. Ferriero, on October 14, 2018.

8-year-old Armanie, a 3rd grader at Glen Iris Elementary School, holds up a shape she made as part of "Don’t Get Puzzled with Engineer BHM," a new Birmingham Public Library STEM program that debuted September 30 at the Titusville Branch Library. Participating students from grades 3 through 12 will learn basic skills related to engineering and 3D printing through creating 3D objects/puzzles, and learn basic concepts found in geometry and design thinking, such as spatial reasoning, dimensions, turning 2D planes to 3D, and prototyping designs.

Engineer BHM is sponsored by Infosys Foundation USA’s 2021 Infy Maker Award. BPL received $10,000 grant in June to teach young people skills in electrical engineering, coding and other STEM areas.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYouth@Hollywood, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxYouth@Hollywood event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

What is TEDxYouth@Hollywood ?

TEDxYouth@Hollywood is a day-long conference for Southern Californian youth aged 14-19. The event features inspiring people with mind, heart and spirit-expanding stories and ideas to share.

The theme of our inaugural event is JUMPING; as in, jumping into something new, exciting, fearful or inspirational. We are interested in igniting the imaginations of youth and the concept of jumping just for the fun of jumping!

Our presenters are a mix of youth, young adults and established professionals in their fields which run the gamut from entertainment to non-profit, education and business. As our theme promises, we will present a few surprises as well.

Elizabeth Public Schools hosted a New York Jets Play 60 program kickoff event at the Dunn Sports Center on Thursday. The event, equipped by Modell’s Sporting Goods, featured Taneka Bowles, wife of Jets head coach and Elizabeth native Todd Bowles, former Jets fullback Tony Richardson, Jets Flight Crew cheerleaders, and a special video from the Jets coach encouraging students to take part in the program and strive to be their best.

The Play 60 program is an initiative of the National Football League to encourage kids to be active for 60 minutes a day in order to help reverse the trend of childhood obesity.

Approximately 4,000 Elizabeth Public Schools’ fourth and fifth-grade students were treated to a fun presentation introducing them to the PLAY 60 program for which they received a Jets backpack along with a game planner to track their fitness. Each participating student will be challenged to complete 60 minutes of activity every day over a four week period.
