Page from the theatre programme for a production of "Veronique" at the Hippodrome Theatre, Keighley, staged by Keighley Amateur Operatic Society (formerly the Keighley Savoyards) in February 1911. This page features adverts for Slater's (fancy stores, Berlin wool and fancy repository) of Cavendish Street; G. Feather (jeweller, silversmith and optician) of Cavendish Street; A. W. Thomas (chocolates and sweets, and china and glass) of Cavendish Street; and John Laycock (fashionable tailor) of Cavendish Street.
The 32-page programme was printed by The Borough Printing Works Co. Ltd. of Cavendish Street, Keighley. It measures approximately 224 mm by 140 mm. The programme was part of an anonymous donation given in 2022.
Islamic Relief is working to address the dire needs of food, water, shelter, and other necessities of the people who have been severely affected by dought and conflcit in Ethiopia. This year's Qurbani targets those communities across Ethiopia. Some of them have never bought meat for the past year or more. Many others have never eaten meat apart from the meat packs given to them by Islamic Relief at various times.
This year we aim to support more than 29,500 people in Amhara, Oromia, and Somali regions as well as the Addis Ababa City Administration through our Qurbani Programme. The Qurbani meat has brought great joy to those families who usually find it difficult to meet their daily food needs due to the high cost of living.
TROPIC OF CANCER WITH SIMON REEVE - Programme Six: Laos, Vietnam, Taiwan and Hawaii.
Author and TV presenter Simon Reeve completes his epic 6-part journey around the Tropic of Cancer, the northern border of the tropics region. On this sixth leg of the journey he travels from north-west Laos across Vietnam, visits the island of Taiwan and then crosses the Pacific to finish his journey in Hawaii.
The photograph shows Simon in the far north west of Laos, at the very centre of the infamous 'Golden Triangle, where Laos meets Burma and Thailand. Previously known as a major centre for illegal drug production, Simon discovered that Chinese businessmen are now building a vast 'Golden Triangle Entertainment City' on the edge of the jungle, complete with hotels, restaurants, shops and casinos.

UNCTAD/TrainForTrade Port Management Programme: Training of Trainers Workshop of the English-speaking Network in Belfast, Northern Ireland from 3-9 July 2019.
The workshop was co-organized by Belfast Harbour Commissioners, with the support of Dublin Port Company and the Port of Cork Company.
32 senior managers (including 12 women) from the member ports of the English-speaking network of the Programme (Indonesia, Ghana, Malaysia, Nigeria, and the Philippines), as well as prospective port member (Kenya) and representative form the PMP French-speaking network (Cameroon), exchanged experiences and knowledge on the contents and delivery of modules 5 - 8 of the course on Modern Port Management.
Certificates were awarded to the successful candidates.
As in previous years, the Trade Facilitation Programme (TFP) of the EBRD invited its
members and everyone interested in the topic of international and intra-regional trade finance banking to attend the annual TFP event within the framework of the Annual Meeting. TFP currently includes over 100 Issuing Banks in the EBRD region and more than 800 Confirming Banks worldwide. In the last two years, the Programme provided essential support to its members and secured substantial flows of trade finance transactions under crisis-ridden market conditions. This year’s one-day event organised in a conference format offered a unique opportunity to share contemporary trade finance banking expertise including trends, specifics, and intricacies through presentations by professional trade finance bankers and specialists. The event also provided the stage for signing agreements with banks that have recently joined and hosted an award ceremony for the most active TFP banks of 2011

In 1950 Bawdsey was selected to become part of the ROTOR Programme, to update Great Britain's Radar cover after World War Two. It consisted of many sites with huge Underground Bunkers to withstand conventional bombing. In 1958 an AMES Type 80 Mk3 was installed with 2 AN/FPS-6 US made Radars. RAF Bawdsey was manned by 144 Signals Unit from 11 Group and together with 6 other Stations in the Eastern Sector it offered cover from 30 minutes before dawn to 30 minutes after sunset as there was no night cover.
The site of RAF Bawdsey Radar Station built in the early 1950's as part of the ROTOR Programme to modernise the United Kingdom's Radar Defences. This was a replacement Station for the Chain Home Station at RAF Bawdsey, located to the south of this Site. The ROTOR Station was fitted with a Type 7 Mk3 Radar Head for local search and control, two Type 14 (Mk8 and Mk9) Plan Positioning Radar Heads, four Type 13 Mk6 and two Type 13 Mk7 Height Finder Radar Heads, and three Type 54 Mk3 Radar Heads for Search and Control with no IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) The Radar Heads were mounted on plinths and 25ft gantries, apart from the Type 54 arrays that were mounted on 20ft Towers. The site was equipped with a Guardhouse designed to resemble a 'bungalow' which gave access to a two-storey, Underground R3 Operations Block. The R3 Bunker was completed in 1954. Newly developed Type 80 Radar and its associated Modulator Building was installed in 1958, with two AN/FPS 6 Height Finding Radars. By 1963 RAF Bawdsey had become a Master Radar Station, but in June 1964 it switched to operating as a Satellite Station to RAF Neatishead in Norfolk. It resumed Master Radar Station status in 1966 until 1974, after a fire damaged RAF Neatishead's Control Centre. Bawdsey closed in 1975 and in 1977 features of the ROTOR Station were demolished, including Plinths, Towers and the Type 80 Modulator Building.
As a site of national importance the Cold War Bloodhound Mark II Missile Site survives intact apart from the removal of the Missiles and their Associated Mobile Equipment. In 1979 RAF Bawdsey reopened as a Bloodhound Mk2 Surface to Air (SAM) Missile Site. The Guardhouse also remains in a derelict condition, and is still attached to the R3 Bunker via an Access Tunnel, the R3 Bunker is disused and has been sealed shut.
The Bloodhound Missile Site is located within the Perimeter of the early 1950's Radar Station of RAF Bawdsey, the Missile Section became active in July 1979 as C Flight of 85 Squadron and remained Operational until the 31st of May 1990. The Flight was divided into two sections, each of which was equipped with six Fixed Concrete Missile Pads, the remainder of its Equipment was Semi-Portable. The Bloodhound Missiles were controlled from Launch Control Posts (LCP's) set on hardstandings and surrounded by an protective earthwork bank, they were connected to the Target Illuminating Radar by cables. Initially the Flight was equipped with two Type 87 Radars mounted on angular Steel Plinths, colloquially known as `Daleks'. In 1988 these were replaced by two smaller Air-Portable Type 86 Radars. These were mounted on top of 4.26m Steel Gantries built over the `Daleks'. Some of the earlier Radar Station Buildings were reused by the Bloodhound Unit, including the Guard House (which retained its original function) an Operations Room was placed in the R3 Bunker and the 1950's Type 80 Radar Modulator Building was converted for use as a Workshop. Ready Use Stores (containing spare Missiles) were simple Concrete Hardstandings. Other structures on site include, buildings for an RAF Dog Section, a Store, a Garage, a Hut of undertermined function, an Explosive Fitment Bay, an Office and a Stand-By Set House.
A programme, some drivers helmets and the silver plate here were all from the 1949 British Grand Prix, the second held at Silverstone and first on the classic circuit which remained until 1973.

The General English programmes at all our summer language centres will include the following:
Project and cultural lessons. These are organised in weekly themes which include world cultures, the future, the media, fashion, lifestyles, music, the arts, family & friendships. These themed lessons build over the week towards the creation and completion of a real task; for example the production of newspaper and magazine articles, diaries, surveys, films, plays and sketches. Students take this work home to show their school teachers and parents and to remember their stay with us.
Excursion preperation lessons, where the teacher will use a variety of activities to learn about the places which students will visit as part of the weekly excursion programme.
Internet lessons, where students will work on-line to research language and materials which they will use in creating their projects.
'English in Action' students interact with the public and use everyday english in order to complete their final projects and present them to their peers and teachers.

After the conquest of England, William the Conqueror embarked upon a programme of cathedral building throughout the country. In 1072 William instructed Bishop Remigius to move the seat of the diocese from Dorchester on Thames to Lincoln. The diocese stretched from the Humber in the north, to the Thames in the south.
Building a cathedral required a huge work force of skilled craftsmen and labourers who worked from sunrise to sunset. It is estimated that £2,000 a year was spent on building the Cathedral; nearly £5,000,000 in today's money.
In 1185 the Cathedral was partly destroyed by an earthquake, leaving only the Norman west front which still stands today.
In 1186, Hugh of Avalon accepted the post of Bishop of Lincoln and began to organise the rebuilding of the Cathedral. Work began in 1192 at the east end and continued until around 1245 when it joined the existing west front. The restoration is said to have been paid for by local people, including, famously, the Swineherd of Stow who gave his meagre life savings towards the great work. His statue sits on the northwest turret opposite that of Saint Hugh on the southwest.
Much of the design and construction of the Cathedral was experimental and in 1237 the central tower collapsed. It was replaced by 1311 with a tower topped with a spire making the Cathedral approximately 525 feet high (160m) and reputedly the tallest building in the world for nearly 238 years. In 1548 the central spire fell down in a storm and had to be removed. It was never replaced.
Public Expenditure & Reform Minister, Brendan Howlin and Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney were in Cork Today to highlight the benefits of the Government’s capital investment programme, Building on Recovery, for the Cork and Kerry area. Ministers Jimmy Deenihan, Kathleen Lynch, Dara Murphy and Sean Sherlock were also at the event in the Irish Marine Energy Resource Cluster (IMERC), which is one of the projects being funded under the programme with a €25 million funding commitment to support jobs, and urban renewal and regeneration in the area.
Minister Howlin said:
The Government’s €42 billion framework for infrastructure investment in Ireland over the period 2016 to 2021 is a sensible, responsible plan to make affordable, sustainable investments that boost the productive capacity of our economy, improve public services and lay the foundations for future growth. For Cork and Kerry, this means providing vital facilities for people in the form of roads, schools, health care, housing and policing, as well as investing capital spending to strengthen the environment for job creation. The plan itself will support an estimated 45,000 construction jobs.
Minister Coveney said:
The Government’s capital investment programme for Cork demonstrates our determination to build the necessary infrastructure in Cork so we can continue to grow economic opportunities and jobs. The funding announced for major road projects, including the Dunkettle interchange and the N28, are a reflection of the Government’s ambition for growth and investment in the Cork area and will be welcome news for people living in Cork’s commuter towns. Major projects like €30 million for the building of a new Pairc Ui Chaoimh, €12 million for the city’s Events Centre and €25 million for IMERC projects will also be funded in the new capital plan.
Minister Deenihan said:
The Government’s plan to invest in infrastructure will lead to better services for the people of Kerry with nine new major school projects announced for construction, a €62 million investment in social housing and the Government’s commitment to increasing the number of Gardai and Garda cars, as well as the refurbishment of Tralee Garda Station. A project that is close to my own heart is the Kerry Sports Academy at IT Tralee which has received €7 million in funding under this plan. Major road projects, like the Dingle relief road and the N22 Ballyvourney to Macroom, which have been long called for, are included in this plan too and this will be a great boost to business and tourism.
