Professor Noam Chomsky's lecture titled "American Exceptionalism: Reconsidered" drew a large crowd to the Joel D. Valdez Main Library on April 13, 2018. The lecture offered a timely and important discussion of some of the ways in which American society has departed from the world, sometimes in extreme and hazardous ways. The event, held on Jacomé Plaza, was free and open to the public.

After spending 62 years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Noam Chomsky is currently a laureate professor in the Department of Linguistics in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Professor Chomsky, considered the founder of modern linguistics, has been called one of the most influential public intellectuals in the world and America’s most useful citizen, and authored more than 100 books on topics as wide-ranging as linguistics, war, politics, and mass media.

Esses três foram meus (melhores) professores por dois anos, durante o meu curso técnico de Design Gráfico e eu amo eles e todos os outros do fundo do meu coração e amei revê-los mês passado, quando fui até à cidade em que morei por três anos.

Keepers of Sound:

Professor John Collins, world-renowned ethnomusicologist, stands in the same house his father once lived in, on ground that was once a lake—now dried up due to climate change. This space holds intimate memories of his father and serves as a living archive of Ghanaian and African music culture.

Visible in the image are the seprewa, an indigenous harp-lute; traditional drums used by Wulomei bands; guitars; CDs; and modern instruments. Archival photographs of bands from the 1960s line the walls behind him. Collins preserves a part of African history that is gradually fading, while also using modern tools to produce new sounds.

This photograph is a trace of connection across generations, continents, and changing landscapes—documenting one man's life work of keeping culture alive in a shifting world.

Revoltech Figure No. 86 - Professor Layton!!

I am not a big fan of figures, but my wife is very fond of the NDS Layton Series, so we bought this as a decoration on the bookshelf. Revoltech joints allow you to twist Layton into various poses, fun!
