This shot of model Ivory Flame was from my second shoot with her, the first being a studio shoot a few years back. If you're considering booking a model I can highly recommend her as she's so at ease front of the camera and has a wealth of experience working with photographers of every skill level from relative beginners like me to some of the top photographers.

I don't consider portraits as one of my strongest subjects, regular visitors to my photostream will know Architecture and Travel Photography are more my thing, but that was all the more reason to attempt a Studio shoot with a professional model such as Ivory Flame. It might partly be because I had quite low expectations of the results but I'm rather proud of the photos I took. I'm hoping to build on the experience I gained this year.....
For anyone interested in the lighting set-up, this was strongly back-lit with a Lastolite Hi-lite, fill-in from the front was provided with a couple of heads with umbrellas. The resulting lighting is quite flat compared to some of the more dramatic shots but being my first shoot with a model (and about nearly twenty years since I'd handled studio lights...) so I wanted to try a variety of set-ups.

Loved shooting the awesome Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Nikon Cameras! It was a bit tough sometimes to achieve optimum focus at F1.4 due to the shallow depth of field, but hey--not every eyelash has to be perfectly sharp! I could do it if I and the model were perfectly still, or F1.8 or F2.0 did the trick too. Kept switching it up! We had fun and she loves the photos! :)

She was a beauty--a gold 45 goddess for sure! A Gold 45 Goddess exalts the archetypal form of Athena--the Greek Goddess of wisdom, warfare, strategy, heroic endeavour, handicrafts and reason. A Gold 45 Goddess guards the beauty of dx4/dt=ic and embodies 45SURF's motto "Virtus, Honoris, et Actio Pro Veritas, Amor, et Bellus, (Strength, Honor, and Action for Truth, Love, and Beauty," and she stands ready to inspire and guide you along your epic, heroic journey into art and mythology. I'm working on an anthology of classic, epic poetry, which begins with selections from Homer's Iliad and Odyssey! :) I've replaced the Roman names with the Greek names: "RAGE, Sing, O goddess, the rage of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Greeks. Many a brave soul did it send hurrying down to Hades, and many a hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for so were the counsels of Zeus fulfilled from the day on which the son of Atreus, king of men, and great Achilles, first fell out with one another."
