Surrounded by hills, Dumbriguda is a real beautiful village with more DTH televisions than restrooms.
That was the last day of the trip.
Like all the bad things in this world, even good things have an end. It's the roadtrip that has ended, the memories will be with us for a lifetime... :)
Despite a rise in autism awareness and inclusive education programs, bullying remains one of the most distressing realities for many on the autism spectrum. A 2015 systematic review revealed that nearly 44% of autistic children have been bullied — a statistic that continues to cause anxiety for families, educators, and the individuals themselves.
Bullying doesn’t only occur in school playgrounds. Autistic individuals face prejudice in workplaces, digital spaces, and even in social portrayals in popular media. For parents of autistic children, the fear of their child being targeted for simply being different is constant and deeply rooted.
Why Bullying Affects Autistic Children Differently
Autistic individuals may process emotions, social cues, and communication differently than neurotypical peers. Because of this, teasing, exclusion, or aggression often hits harder and takes longer to recover from. For many on the spectrum, daily experiences are already overwhelming — sudden loud noises, crowded rooms, or unspoken social rules can be confusing or distressing. When bullying is added to the mix, it can lead to long-term trauma and emotional dysregulation.
Worse still, when a bullying incident is reported, the attention it attracts — from school officials, families, and sometimes even the media — can feel invasive. Autistic children may struggle with the sudden shift in their routine, unfamiliar people getting involved, or peers treating them differently. This reactive cycle can create more harm than good if not handled with care.
Building a Safer Environment for Autistic Children
To truly protect autistic individuals from bullying, proactive, structured strategies must be in place. These aren’t just about discipline or punishment — they’re about empowerment, emotional safety, and dignity.
1. Teach Autistic Children Self-Advocacy Skills
Every child deserves the confidence to speak up when something isn’t right. For autistic children, self-advocacy should begin early — teaching them that it’s okay to ask for help and share how they’re feeling. Whether verbal or non-verbal, autistic individuals benefit from being taught how to express anger, sadness, or discomfort in ways that others can understand.
For less verbal children, visual tools or emotional cards can be effective. For those who are verbal, programs that improve auditory processing and sound integration can help them feel more at ease discussing emotional experiences. These tools give autistic individuals the reassurance that their concerns matter — and that asking for help is not only okay but encouraged.
2. Create Safe Retreat Spaces
When bullying occurs, the emotional fallout can be intense. Designated safe spaces are essential for recovery. These might be calming rooms in school with sensory tools or even allowing the child to take a break and go home for the day.
The goal is to reduce overstimulation and emotional distress. These retreat areas should be quiet, familiar, and comforting — spaces where autistic individuals can regulate their emotions before rejoining their peers. Schools and support services must treat these spaces as an essential part of their anti-bullying strategy, not an afterthought.
Collective Responsibility, Compassionate Action
It is not just the responsibility of the bullied child to manage these incidents — it is the duty of schools, communities, and society at large to create environments where bullying is neither tolerated nor ignored. Preventing harm is not only about rules, but about building empathy, understanding, and preparedness into school cultures and support networks.
Every child on the autism spectrum deserves safety, support, and respect. If you are a parent, carer, or educator concerned about bullying and its long-term impact, taking early steps to support emotional regulation, safe communication, and sensory comfort can make a lifelong difference.

We were "proactive" with Marley, loading up a couple great kong toys designed to take his attention away from four 3 year-old boys racing around the house. They worked! And Marley, once finished w/the kongs, was almost perfectly behaved.

Since our arrival in New York City, i have been very proactive and enthusiastic to shoot as much as possible. One of the projects im working on is Dogs and owners of NYC.
Here attached is the second dog shoot I have done. i met Michael while walking through central park on a tour with my family, I saw Michael and Murphy sitting on a bench, took a shot of
them and walked away, my brother told me I would never find a guy with such a big mustache again, and i had to get his number for the dog shoot, So I went back and got his details and 1 week later
we were shooting this story in Central Park .
Thank you Michael and Murphy for your time
