As part of our ongoing commitment to tackling neighbourhood crime and making our city centre a safer place, a number of our teams carried out proactive operations targeting crime and anti-social behaviour in the area, leading to a total of 14 arrests.
Officers from the Town Hall Neighbourhood Team carried out a mixture of late-night policing operations, with both uniformed and plain-clothed officers, across the Chinatown area. This proactive operation led to six arrests, mostly in relation to the possession and supply of drugs.
As well as these arrests, officers executed multiple stop searches across the area as part of ongoing work to keep the community safe. This involved addressing loud music being played at late hours, tackling anti-social behaviour, and disrupting drug use in the area.
Our City Centre Neighbourhood Team also conducted proactive patrols across Piccadilly Gardens, leading to two arrests in connection with drugs and public order.
Sergeant Jack Lenihan-Smith from the Town Hall Neighbourhood Team said: "The city of Manchester hosts a number of activities throughout the day and is home to such exciting nightlife experiences.
"Our priority is you, and as you enjoy the day with family or friends, it is our focus to ensure you can do so safely. From the early hours of the morning, to the late hours at night, our officers are deployed across the city centre to protect you.
"Our work doesn't stop here and we will continue to proactively patrol these areas and work with local communities to ensure we are providing the protection you need. We encourage anyone who may have questions or concerns to please approach us, we're always happy to help."
Alongside the neighbourhood teams, Project Servator were deployed in the city centre throughout the week.
Project Servator are our dedicated team aimed at disrupting a range of criminal activity, while providing a reassuring presence for the public.
Across the week, they secured six arrests, demonstrating our continuous efforts to reduce criminality across Manchester and ensure resident and visitors can have an enjoyable and safe time.
Several of those arrests were wanted individuals, who were identified by our Live Facial Recognition technology, which was deployed to Piccadilly Gardens.
Sergeant Lee Keefe said: "These arrests showcase the impact of Project Servator. We are deployed across Greater Manchester and use highly visible and unpredictable tactics to disrupt criminal activity while providing reassurance to the public.
"We all play a role in the safety of our communities, and we ask people to stay vigilant, speak to officers, and report anything that doesn’t feel right. We will always listen and act on your concerns"

POTATO SUSTAINABILITY IN WISCONSIN
Determining the Sustainability of Practices used by Potato Growers in 2013The Wisconsin potato industry is being proactive in documenting the sustainability of their growers while ensuring grower engagement in the process. Working through the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association (WPVGA), in partnership with the National Initiative for Sustainable Agriculture (NISA), the industry has assessed the sustainability of the practices currently used on potato farms throughout the state.
The assessment used an entry-level NISA approach to generate maximum grower engagement in the sustainability arena. Seventy-one growers returned assessments representing 56,785 acres of potatoes (90% of the total Wisconsin acreage).
Growers from the fresh (20,400 acres), chip (17,900 acres), frozen (10,400 acres), and seed markets (7,400 acres) participated in the assessment to provide an accurate representation of the industry as a whole. This assessment represented over 200,000 total farmland acres, with the farms being active for an average of over 53 years. All results were received from family-owned farms, with an average of 2-3 generations actively working and involved in the farming operations.
Ensuring Grower Involvement:The current industry-wide assessment expands grower engagement in sustainability to all segments of potato production in Wisconsin by providing a base-tier assessment that involves a broad spectrum of growers. potatoes.news/?p=1799

JNU students. Currently, the disbursal mechanism of all the fellowships and scholarships has several problems causing inordinate delay and massive hardships. Students do not deserve to suffer because of bureaucratic red-tapism, administrative insensitivity and inefficiency. A corpus fund must be created by the university for the purpose of doing away with the inordinate delays in disbursal. .
Proactive steps towards alleviating educational deprivation of minorities delineated by several expert committees should be initiated by JNU. .
Foreign students face inordinate delayin receiving their final degree after completion of their course in JNU. The process of issuing degree to foreign students must be expedited, so that their carrier prospects elsewhere are not affected. .
GSCASH and EOO: GSCASH has always received support from JNUSU in all its endeavors. Currently, the paucity of funds, staff as well as volunteers is inhibiting the effectivity of GSCASH. In the days to come, JNUSU will have to work along with GSCASH to address these issues. GSCASH needs basic infrastructure like its own Xerox machine. So as to evolve an institutionalized method to ensure basic gender sensitization among new and continuing students, the Academic Council should form guidelines to incorporate gender sensitisation as a mandatory lecture series/ programme to be conducted through each centre in the first semester itself. Similarly, the EOO office has to be revitalized so that it can act strongly upon any instance of discrimination or violence based on caste or religion. .
Overall Campus Security: In light of several incidents of harassment and molestation (especially by outsiders), the overall security mechanism in the campus has to be overhauled. Round-the-clock security has to be provided at vulnerable points, like 24x7 dhaba and on the lonely strip from Brahmaputra hostel to the Ad Block bus stop. Moreover, the communication system between guards often is completely non-functional. GSCASH representation should be ensured in the campus security committee. .

Issues of Infrastructure and Facilities .
JNU Press: In view of JNUs national and international repute, it is imperative that JNU adopts a proactive policy and starts publishing the quality research of its own student scholars and faculty for wider dissemination under its own emblem. This will not only make many of our important research contributions, hitherto under publicized, easily accessible but will also act as a stimulating intellectual incentive to students and faculty alike in all future research endeavours. .
Construction of Hostels and Democratizing Hostel Allotment Rules: A severe hostel crisis continues in JNU, and even now, several students have not been allotted hostels. Therefore, the construction of new hostels should be taken up on a priority basis. The dubious policy adopted during the tenure of the previous DoS about segregation of single and double-seater hostels and creating centralised pool of single-seaters must be reversed. Also the red-tapism invoked in hostel change must be removed. The centralized pooling system should be done away with, so that students can get the hostel of their choice. .
Improved Library Facilities: In 2007-08, the JNUSU had highlighted the massive corruption and deficiencies in the management of library facilities as a result the Chief Librarian was suspended on corruption charges, and more student representation and participation in the process of procurement of books was ensured. This process has to be strengthened in the days to come. Book purchase and cataloguing requires serious engagement, as latest books particularly in sciences, social sciences, area studies and languages are hardly available in our library. A comprehensive package to revitalize the library facilities, procurement of new books and better utilization of library funds has to be evolved. The under-utilised 8th floor of the library can be converted into an additional cyber library/reference section. .
Recruitment of Teachers: For a long time now, the entire JNU community has been demanding quick recruitment teachers and staff, keeping in mind legally mandated reservations for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates. However, the JNU administration has been dilly-dallying on this demand. As a result the academics of the university have been suffering. This situation cannot be allowed to continue any longer. .
Health Centre and 24x7 Health Care Facilities:After a long protest and hunger strike, the JNU administration had procured a proper 24x7 ambulance. However, the health facilities continue to be abysmal, and the committee (under the chairpersonship of the then Assistant Dean of Students) is yet to submit its recommendations and act on them. The health care facilities in JNU have to be upgraded on a priority basis with provisions of basic diagnostic facilities, anti-venom injections and other services. JNU should also make arrangements with adjacent hospitals and nursing homes to provide facilities to JNU students at concessional rates. .
Extension of Timings of the Railway Reservation Counter In JNU from 8 am onwards, so that students can avail Tatkal facility in the campus. .
Internet access: Wi-fi internet access in the hostels should be provided. Right now, students are forced to arrange for their own internet connections, and in many cases this is creating a variety of problems. .
Transport facilities: The frequency of the DTC buses in JNU (615) should be increased. Feeder buses to the nearest Metro station, and bus facilities connecting important libraries in the city should be provided as was prevalent in JNU. .
For day-scholars who daily commute by train, JNU must make necessary arrangements for issuance of MST railway passes. .
A Cultural centre and Auditorium for students activities must be built and existing premises like KC OAT and PSR must be renovated. The huge fee of the newly constructed Convention Centre must be reduced to make it easily affordable to the students as well. .
Sports facilities in the campus also needs to engaged with and improved. .
Reforestation and Revitalization of the Environment Task Force:The fragile bio-diversity of JNU has been severely stressed by the construction work and expansion happening in JNU. Therefore, there is an urgent need to revitalize the ETF and embark on a university-wide reforestation scheme so that the various species (like the nilgai) living in JNU are not endangered. .
.
Issues of Campus Democracy .
Struggle Against Lyngdoh and to Restore the JNUSU Constitution: The struggle against Lyngdoh is far from over, JNUSU has to be made a national platform for fighting against Lyngdoh. Our ongoing case in the Supreme Court is the ONLY existing legal challenge to the draconian, anti-student Lyngdoh committee recommendations. In the days to come, we need a JNUSU which is ideologically committed to carry forward this battle against Lyngdoh with renewed energy, broad based mobilisation and focus. We have to ensure that the pending matter of defending the JNUSU constitution against the Lyngdoh report in the Supreme Court is expedited. This crucial struggle against Lyngdoh and its staunch defender YFE obviously .

If we were to be charged for all the scenic beauty that we got to see during the trip, we'd surely go bankrupt!!
The slight drizzle, the canopy of clouds and the green carpet...it was a feast for eyes!!
May the beauty live on!

Women from Mocimboa Sede, aged 18 to 24, are proactively shaping their futures. Led by a president and treasurer, they began with modest savings and small sales. Each member invests in building a business—making homemade goods, baking, or reselling products. With family support for resources like freezers and stoves, they're turning small ideas into thriving ventures.
Meeting every Saturday, they’ve grown their collective savings from 3,000 to 16,000 in three months. At the WGSS, they share dreams of education and expanding into fashion and food businesses, proving their determination and support.

This is the first of a possible four Taff Housing developments planned for the Canton section of Cowbridge Rd East.
There was a public meeting recently called by a proactive resident, about the second proposed site for a Taff Housing development, The Maltings.
Retrospectively, at this meeting the local residents expressed their displeasure at the current builds lack of parking spaces provided and the actual elevation of the building. They expressed, they can barely park near their homes as it is, and the building takes a lot of light away from their houses and invades their privacy due to the height of the build. The view of the residents upon the impact of the build was to late, as the building is virtually complete.
When planning applications are submitted to councl, a public notice is then placed outside the proposed build , asking for any comments on the application to be submitted. See:- www.flickr.com/photos/67589747@N04/6686598625/in/set-7215...
On reading these notices the local residents have two, three weeks to make their comments known. Firstly, who consistently notices or reads these planning applications and secondly, with out some lengthy research what clear information is readily accessible for them to actually comment on? If no one takes the reigns the development goes ahead.
The Canton Green Party suggests that when initial planning is submitted to Council a public consultation should be initiated by the developers, facilitated by the Council. This is when the local demographic can raise informed concerns to be considered by the developer and the Council. Or at the very least get the planning applications up as soon as submitted to council, with vital information included.
The current system fails as it completely relies on that ' pro-active ' individual to notice, read, research then raise comments and concerns. Then motivate the local residents and councilors to hold and attend a public consultation.
When it hasn't gone beneath the publics radar then the councilors love to be seen to facilitate disscussion, especially before an election.
Some families here come all the way from Orissa to sell their produce in the Araku santha.
What pains is that they walk about thirty kilometres to reach the market...and that's every week.

Mexico is making proactive and systematic strides towards shaping the future of the pharmaceutical industry within the country and ambitiously across the entire region.
The "Estrategia de Certidumbre Regulatoria 2022-2030" (Regulatory Certainty Strategy) was recently presented by COFEPRIS. This well-defined strategy ultimately aims to enhance access to therapies in Latin America. This strategy recognizes the need for local market growth and emphasizes the importance of fostering interconnections within the region, across the continent, and globally.
The Mexican edition of the forum highlights investment as a crucial catalyst for promising growth, elucidates the investment sector's interests and concerns, and provides proactive measures to navigate the upcoming COFEPRIS-defined scenario effectively.
