It is currently a Prezzo restaurant, looking down Station Road in Chingford. There has been a pub on this site since 1850s (or thereabouts) but in my lifetime it spent most of its life known as the Bull & Crown.
The original pub on the site (the present building dates from 1899) was called the Black Bull (looking down Maddox Lane, as the train line had yet to be extended to the end of the road when it was re-named Station Road), then the Bull, then the Bull's Head. The current building started life I understand as the Crown (or Crown Hotel) and at some point changed to the Bull & Crown. In the early 1990s it became The Slug & Lettuce for about 5 years, then re-named Bull & Crown, then in the early 2000s, a brief spell as Molly Ks, again before returning to the Bull & Crown.
About 5 years ago it closed and was later re-opened as above. How long before it becomes the Bull & Crown once more?

Pereta (Magliano in Toscana, Grosseto)
Sulla strada che dalla costa maremmana va verso Magliano in Toscana e più avanti va in direzione Scansano, si trova questo piccolo borgo chiamato Pereta che si trova in comune di Magliano in Toscana, provincia di Grosseto.
La prima impressione che si ha nel visitare il borgo è quella di essere ritornati nel medioevo perchè non è stato trasformato niente del vecchio nucleo abitativo, rimasto rigorosamente in pietra come oltre mille anni fa, con i vicoli e le chiese che lo compongo.
Edificato dagli AIdobrandeschi tra il X e l'XI sec. Pereta divenne un importante centro militare posto a guardia di un passaggio stradale obbligato che collegava la costa con la montagna.
Tuttavia dai ritrovamenti archeologici avvenuti intorno al borgo, sembrerebbe che la vita vi si svolgesse già in epoca etrusca e romana. La memoria più antica rimane comunque un atto notarile datato 8 agosto 1032. Dal documento s'apprende infatti che Albizio del fu Pietro vendette a Signoretto del fu Otto, un pezzo di terra a Pereta, nel Contado Rosellense, con tutte le case, vigne e terre, per il prezzo di venti soldi d'argento.
Benché legato alle vicende politiche e militari degli Aldobrandeschi, Pereta non fu mai alle dirette dipendenze di quei Conti. Infatti nel 1203, troviamo il borgo sotto il potere di un certo Messer Francesco, sebbene il Conte Ildebrandino VIII ne rivendicasse il possesso. Ancora una Bolla Papale del 1216 risulta che i lasciti su Pereta, la Chiesa di San Bruzio a Magliano, l'oliveto ed un casale sull'Osa, vengono riconfermati dal Pontefice Onorio III all'Abbazia di San Antimo di Montalcino.
Pereta (Magliano in Toscana, Grosseto)
On the road that goes from the Maremma coast to Magliano in Toscana and further on towards Scansano, there is this small village called Pereta which is located in the municipality of Magliano in Toscana, in the province of Grosseto.
The first impression one gets when visiting the village is that of having returned to the Middle Ages because nothing of the old residential nucleus has been transformed, which remained strictly in stone as it was over a thousand years ago, with the alleys and churches that compose it.
Built by the Aidobrandeschi between the 10th and 11th centuries. Pereta became an important military center guarding an obligatory road passage that connected the coast with the mountain.
However, from the archaeological findings around the village, it would seem that life already took place there in the Etruscan and Roman times. However, the oldest memory remains a notarial deed dated 8 August 1032. From the document we learn that Albizio del fu Pietro sold to Signoretto del fu Otto, a piece of land in Pereta, in the Rosellense district, with all the houses, vineyards and lands, for the price of twenty silver sous.
Although tied to the political and military events of the Aldobrandeschi, Pereta was never directly employed by those Counts. In fact, in 1203, we find the village under the power of a certain Messer Francesco, although Count Ildebrandino VIII claimed possession of it. Another Papal Bull of 1216 shows that the bequests on Pereta, the Church of San Bruzio in Magliano, the olive grove and a farmhouse on the Osa, are reconfirmed by Pope Honorius III at the Abbey of San Antimo of Montalcino.

In entrambe le tecniche il vetro viene tagliato, sagomato e rilegato interamente a mano.
La rilegatura Tiffany consiste in una saldatura di stagno, anch’essa eseguita manualmente lungo i vari pezzi di vetro che compongono la vetrata. Lo stagno ha quindi la funzione di saldare ciascun elemento della vetrata lungo tutta la sua superficie.
Ogni vetrata può contenere elementi prodotti a Murano, sono pezzi fatti a mano, generalmente soffiati a bocca che vanno ad impreziosirla in maniera particolare ed elegante;sono i rui di murrine, i rui semplici, le filigrane e le murrine.
La tipologia ed il numero di elementi inseribili nelle vetrate influisce in maniera predominante nella determinazione del prezzo di queste.

Finito proprio adesso di ripararla con uno spazzolino da denti e un cacciavite. Ho spazzolato sopra e sotto in tutti gli interstizi, ho cambiato la candela che scoppiettava. ITA- la bellezza di vagare nel bosco in mezzo alla nebbia da soli non ha paragoni, trovare piccoli angoli magici come questo non ha prezzo. Senza nebbia questa scena sarebbe stata confusionaria, così invece mi piace moltissimo.
ENG- the beauty of wandering alone in the woods in the fog is unmatched, finding small magical corners like this is priceless. Without fog this scene would have been confusing, but I love it instead.

Il Collio è uno dei territori più famosi e piacevoli da percorrere del nostro Friuli-Venezia Giulia, sia per le sue dolci colline dominate da castelli, abbazie e aziende agricole, sia per il numero elevato di agriturismi (con ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo) che vi si può trovare.
Borghi e vigneti si inerpicano lungo le colline del territorio compreso nella zona collinare della provincia di Gorizia, nell’estrema propaggine orientale del Friuli, dove quel confine che fu per tanti anni sinonimo di chiusura, dal punto di vista geografico si caratterizza invece per la presenza di ville, castelli, piccoli borghi incorniciati da circa 1.600 ettari di vigneti che producono una ventina tra le più pregiate varietà di vini. Quest’area crocevia di popoli e di culture è zona a Denominazione di Origine Controllata fin dal 1968.

SPESSA OF CIVIDALE. IN THE HEART OF THE COLLIO.
The Collio is one of the most famous and pleasant territories to travel in our Friuli-Venezia Giulia, both for its rolling hills dominated by castles, abbeys and farms, and for the large number of farmhouses (with excellent quality / price ratio). you can find it there.
Villages and vineyards climb along the hills of the territory included in the hilly area of the province of Gorizia, in the extreme eastern offshoot of Friuli, where that border that was synonymous with closure for many years, from a geographical point of view is instead characterized by the presence of villas, castles, small villages framed by about 1,600 hectares of vineyards that produce about twenty of the finest varieties of wines. This area, a crossroads of peoples and cultures, has been a Denomination of Controlled Origin area since 1968.

La folle corsa al rincaro del prezzo del gas è il nuovo spettro per l'isola di Murano e per la sua millenaria arte del vetro. L'impennata dei prezzi del combustibile di cui necessitano le vetrerie 24 ore al giorno, 365 giorni l'anno, per sfornare gli splendidi manufatti colorati che decorano le case, gli alberghi, i palazzi di tutto il mondo, rischia di essere la causa di nuove chiusure per le aziende. Piccole imprese che dopo l'acqua alta del 2019, dopo il Covid e una crisi del settore che vede timidi segnali di ripresa potrebbero non reggere gli ulteriori elevati costi del gas metano.

DOPPIO RIFLESSO
Non tutte le conchiglie producono delle perle, ma possiamo dire che un grande numero di bivalve sono capaci di produrre delle perle di più o meno buona qualità. Anche le cozze che vengono coltivate per finire nei piatti possono produrre delle perle gialle, minuscole, come anche le grosse tridacne dei mari tropicali sono capaci di produrre delle "biglie" senza grande interesse estetico.
La più conosciuta bivalva che produce delle perle la Pinctada fucata (chiamata anche akoya) alla quale si devono le tradizionali perle bianche del Giappone. Questa conchiglia si incontra nelle acque temperate e fresche dell’Asia (Giappone, Cina, Corea).
Una bivalva d’acqua dolce di piccole dimensioni, di coltura molto facile in Asia, Hyriopsis schegeli, permette oggi ai giapponesi, ma anche e soprattutto ai cinesi, d’invadere il mercato di piccole perle a basso prezzo che vanno dal bianco crema al rosa, passando dal giallo dorato.

Not all shells produce pearls, but we can say that a large number of clams are capable of producing pearls of more or less good quality. Even the mussels that are grown to finish in the dishes can produce tiny yellow pearls, as well as the large clams of tropical seas are capable of producing "marbles" without great aesthetic interest.
The best known bivalve that produces pearls is the Pinctada fucata (also called akoya) which is responsible for the traditional white pearls of Japan. This shell is encountered in the temperate and cool waters of Asia (Japan, China, Korea).
A small freshwater bivalve, very easy to cultivate in Asia, Hyriopsis schegeli, today allows the Japanese, but also and above all the Chinese, to invade the market of small low-priced pearls ranging from creamy white to pink , passing from golden yellow.

La Vero s.n.c. crea vetrate artistiche rilegate esclusivamente a Tiffany o a piombo .
In entrambe le tecniche il vetro viene tagliato, sagomato e rilegato interamente a mano.
La rilegatura Tiffany consiste in una saldatura di stagno, anch’essa eseguita manualmente lungo i vari pezzi di vetro che compongono la vetrata. Lo stagno ha quindi la funzione di saldare ciascun elemento della vetrata lungo tutta la sua superficie.
Ogni vetrata può contenere elementi prodotti a Murano, sono pezzi fatti a mano, generalmente soffiati a bocca che vanno ad impreziosirla in maniera particolare ed elegante;sono i rui di murrine, i rui semplici, le filigrane e le murrine.
La tipologia ed il numero di elementi inseribili nelle vetrate influisce in maniera predominante nella determinazione del prezzo di queste.
Le Château d'Alleuze est un château fort situé sur la commune d'Alleuze, dans le Cantal. Cet édifice est aujourd'hui en ruine et maintenu dans cet état.
Possédé au XIIe siècle par Béraud VIII, de Mercœur, connétable d'Auvergne, seigneur d'Aubijoux et d'Alleuze. Il appartenait ensuite aux évêques de Clermont. C'était un des postes avancés de la citadelle de Saint-Flour.
Au cours de la guerre de Cent Ans, Bernard de Garlan (du parti des Anglais) s'en empare. Il sème la terreur dans toute la région et ce n'est qu'à prix d'or que l'on parvient à le déloger. Pour éviter que Garlan ait des successeurs, les habitants de Saint-Flour incendient le château en 1405. Monseigneur de la Tour, propriétaire du château, très mécontent de ces déprédations, obligea les sanflorains à le reconstruire.
Les Huguenots le prirent en 1575.
Les tours furent utilisées comme geôles par les évêques de Clermont.

Während des Hundertjährigen Krieges , Bernard de Garlan ( die englische Partei ) ergreift. Es breitet sich Terror in der Region und es ist nur der Preis für Gold, das wir es schaffen, zu entfernen. Il borgo medievale di Pereta (Magliano in Toscana, Grosseto, Tuscany)
Il borgo fu edificato dagli Aldobrandeschi tra il X e l'XI secolo, divenendo un importante centro militare posto a guardia di un passaggio stradale obbligato che collegava la costa con la montagna. Tuttavia, dai ritrovamenti archeologici avvenuti intorno al borgo, sembrerebbe che la vita vi si svolgesse già in epoca etrusca e romana. La memoria più antica rimane comunque un atto notarile datato 8 agosto 1032. Dal documento s'apprende infatti che Albizio del fu Pietro vendette a Signoretto del fu Otto un pezzo di terra a Pereta, nel Contado Rosellense, con tutte le case, vigne e terre, per il prezzo di venti soldi d'argento. Benché legato alle vicende politiche e militari degli Aldobrandeschi, Pereta non fu mai alle loro dirette dipendenze. Infatti nel 1203 troviamo il borgo sotto il potere di un certo Messer Francesco, sebbene il conte Ildebrandino VIII ne rivendicasse il possesso. Ancora, in una bolla papale del 1216 risulta che i lasciti su Pereta, la chiesa di San Bruzio a Magliano, l'oliveto ed un casale sull'Osa, vengono riconfermati dal pontefice Onorio III all'abbazia di Sant'Antimo di Montalcino.
Nel 1238 l'esercito senese prende d'assalto questo castello insieme a quello del Collecchio, di Magliano e Montiano, occupando così quella fascia costiera, punto base per lanciare l'ultimo attacco decisivo a Sovana, sede principale dei conti. Tuttavia nel 1274, dopo anni di varie lotte, questi feudi vengono recuperati dagli Aldobrandeschi e, nella storica divisione di quello stesso anno, Pereta passa sotto il possesso del conte Ildebrandino di Santa Fiora. Questi ultimi anni del XIII secolo si concludono con le vicende della contessa Margherita e Nello Pannocchieschi che, tra il 1220 e il 1225 circa, vissero in questo luogo. Con l'inizio del XIV secolo, il declino degli Aldobrandeschi va sempre più assumendo serie dimensioni e benché molti castelli siano ancora sotto i loro domini, sono questi per lo più governati liberamente da nobili famiglie forestiere. È il caso di Pereta, che già agli inizi di questo nuovo secolo risulta in possesso del conte di Donoratico. Una sentenza pronunciata in Pereta, del 20 marzo 1344, rivela infatti che: ... in detto anno Priore di Naddo da Cetona, Castellano in Pereta del conte di Donoratico, condannò Andreoccio di Guidone ad essergli tagliata la testa per aver ammazzato con coltello Andrea del già Bucetto di Pereta, entrambi cittadini di questo castello. Ma se il Conte di Donoratico amministrava il feudo, anche gli Aldobrandeschi dovevano possederne una parte, tanto che l'anno successivo, nello strumento della sottomissione a Siena dei conti Andrea e Giovanni, risulta tra l'altro che questi cedevano anche la terra di Pereta. Negli ultimi anni che seguirono si trovò il castello sprovvisto di governo, divenendo facile preda per briganti e predatori.
The Medieval village of Pereta (Magliano in Toscana, Grosseto, Tuscany)
The village was built by the Aldobrandeschi between the tenth and eleventh centuries, becoming an important military center guarding an obligatory roadway that connected the coast with the mountain. However, from the archaeological findings that took place around the village, it would seem that life took place there in Etruscan and Roman times. The earliest memory, however, remains a notarial deed dated August 8, 1032. From the document we learn that Albizio del fu Pietro sold a piece of land to Signoretto del fu Otto, in the Contado Rosellense, with all the houses, vineyards and lands, for the price of twenty silver money. Although linked to the political and military vicissitudes of the Aldobrandeschi, Pereta was never directly dependent on them. In fact, in 1203 we find the village under the power of a certain Messer Francesco, although Count Ildebrandino VIII claims possession of it. Furthermore, in a papal bull of 1216 it appears that the legacies on Pereta, the church of San Bruzio in Magliano, the olive grove and a farmhouse on the river Osa are reconfirmed by Pope Honorius III at the abbey of Sant'Antimo in Montalcino.
In 1238 the Sienese army stormed this castle together with that of Collecchio, of Magliano and Montiano, thus occupying that coastal strip, a base point to launch the last decisive attack to Sovana, the main seat of the counts. However, in 1274, after years of various struggles, these fiefs were recovered by the Aldobrandeschi family and, in the historical division of that same year, Pereta passed under the possession of Count Ildebrandino di Santa Fiora. These last years of the XIII century end with the vicissitudes of the countess Margherita and Nello Pannocchieschi who, between 1220 and 1225 approximately, lived in this place. With the beginning of the fourteenth century, the decline of the Aldobrandeschi is increasingly taking on serious dimensions and although many castles are still under their dominions, they are mostly governed freely by noble foreign families. This is the case of Pereta, which at the beginning of this new century is in the possession of the Count of Donoratico. A sentence pronounced in Pereta, March 20, 1344, reveals that: ... in that year Prior of Naddo da Cetona, Castellano in Pereta of the Count of Donoratico, sentenced Andreoccio di Guidone to have his head cut off for killing with knife Andrea of the already Bucetto di Pereta, both citizens of this castle. Se prima la causa principale era il lock down o la paura di contagiare il Covid, ora si sta vivendo il dramma in Ucraina ed i fortissimi rincari del carburante. Il prezzo della benzina è praticamente raddoppiato e per il momento non c'è nessuna volontà di far uscire l'auto dal garage....per fortuna tra qualche ora l'Udinese giocherà l'incontro di serie A contro la Roma, sperando di non imbattersi in una sonora sconfitta !!!!

Sunday at home like many others previously .... but the reasons have changed enormously.
If previously the main cause was the lock down or the fear of infecting Covid, now we are experiencing the drama in Ukraine and the very strong increases in fuel prices. The price of petrol has practically doubled and for the moment there is no desire to get the car out of the garage ... fortunately, in a few hours Udinese will play the Serie A match against Roma, hoping to do not run into a sound defeat !!!!

Il porto di Talamone - The port of Talamone
Piccolo paese costiero della provincia di Grosseto, in comune di Orbetello, ha invece una grande ed importante storia che ha inizio sino dai periodi etrusco e romano quando un piccolo insediamento etrusco risalente al IV secolo a.C. sorgeva nel colle del Talamonaccio con un relativo tempio del quale rimangono solo le tracce delle fondamenta e del meraviglioso frontone (il "Frontone di Talamone") che omaggiava il mito dei "Sette con Tebe" (opera di Eschilo del 467 a.C.).
Talamone è anche famosa per una battaglia combattuta in località Poggio Ospedaletto dove i Romani si scontrarono con i Galli; i Galli erano in realtà una alleanza di più popolazioni con a capo i re Concolitano e Aneroesto che avevano l'obbiettivo di unirsi alle truppe cartaginesi per assaltare Roma.
Ciò non avvenne in quanto i romani comandati da Caio Attilio Regolo e Lucio Emilio Papo riuscirono a battere l'esercito dei Galli proprio a Talamone e nel corso della battaglia vennero uccisi il re Aneroesto e il console romano Caio Attilio Regolo.
Talamone diede inoltre aiuto a Mario, di ritorno dal suo esilio africano per organizzare un esercito contro Silla. Tale aiuto venne pagato a caro prezzo dagli abitanti di Talamone perchè una volta fallito il piano di Mario, le truppe di Silla marciarono a loro volta contro Talamone per vendicarsi, così che gli abitanti vennero completamente uccisi nell'82 a.C.
A small coastal village in the province of Grosseto, in the municipality of Orbetello, has instead a great and important history that has begun since the Etruscan and Roman periods when a small Etruscan settlement dating back to the fourth century BC. stood on the hill of the Talamonaccio with a relative temple of which only traces remain of the foundations and of the wonderful pediment remain (the "Fronton of Talamone") that paid homage to the myth of "Seven with Thebes" (work of Aeschylus of 467 BC).
Talamone is also famous for a battle fought in Poggio Ospedaletto where the Romans clashed with the Gauls; the Gauls were in fact an alliance of several populations headed by the kings Concolitan and Aneroestus who had the goal of joining the Carthaginian troops with the purpose of assault Rome.
This did not happen because the Romans commanded by Gaius Attilio Regolo and Lucio Emilio Papo managed to beat the Gallic army in Talamone and during the battle the king Aneroestus and the Roman consul Gaius Attilio Regolo were killed.
Talamone also helped Mario, returning from his African exile to organize an army against Silla. This help was paid dearly by the inhabitants of Talamone because once Mario's plan had failed, Silla's troops marched in turn against Talamone to take revenge, so that the inhabitants were completely killed in 82 BC.
