U.S. Under Secretary of State Sarah Sewall addressed the Geneva Conference on Preventing Violent Extremism April 8. The two-day conference, the first of its kind, provides an opportunity for senior experts from around the world to share experiences and best practices, and to discuss challenges and approaches to preventing violent extremism at the global, regional, and national level. The U.S. delegation to the conference headed by Under Secretary Sewall also includes Ambassador Pamela Hamamoto, Ambassador David Robinson, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, Justin Siberell, Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism, and USAID Assistant Administrator Tom Staal. #PreventVE

some additional information about the reflief road I found today (because this snapshot has actually started an interesting conversation about the relief road and the junctions names thanks to Kate&Drew). I quite like the Name "Issac Tongue Junction"!:
(...)The Northfield Relief Road construction is near completion, allowing traffic to be diverted onto the new road towards the end of April. This will leave some work that can only be done after traffic is diverted to the new route.
The outstanding works will be at the Old Travellers Rest area, the Church Road / Bristol Road South junction and at the junction of Chatham Road / Bristol Road South.
The major intersections have now been given names - the junction at the North tie-in is named after the Travellers Rest public house that was demolished to make way for the new road, as a pub had been at this location for centuries. The junction of Bell Hill and Bell Lane is to be called the Isaac Tongue junction. This was chosen by local school children from the Bellfield Junior School.
Isaac was a local blacksmith whose forge was sited opposite the Bell Inn. The story goes that he used to christen babies (after their official baptism) over his anvil, with various nicknames. These nicknames stuck and people were known by these rather than their given names.
The junction at the southern tie-in at Frankley Beeches Road / Bristol Road South, is named the Black Horse, after the pub that is at this junction(...)

The division of society in Ukraine not only prevents a peaceful democratic dialogue, but also constructive cooperation of social actors at all levels in the current upheaval. Seemingly irreconcilable tension lines are not only between the eastern and western Ukraine, they also separate the people within a neighborhood or village and the current division and conflicare apparent at all layers of society. The project "Dialogue for Change" is designed to help overcome these social cleavage by a strengthening of civil society and dialogue in Ukraine. The programm operates on three levels.
One is the local level, with 14 Maysternyas (workshops) for about 280 young adults in eight regions of Ukraine.
One format is the Rural Intitiatives Workshop. This is a non-formal civic education program for young people in the age of 14 to 18. The aims are to support young people and youth initiatives to develop public spaces in rural areas, to empower social, cultural and educational developments and also to develope volunteering in rural areas.

29 November 2018 - Our #Evaluation Team is in Madhya Pradesh to conduct the evaluation of a project "Trapped in cotton: Reduce and prevent at-risk children from labour in cotton farms of Madhya Pradesh state, India", a project funded by C & A Foundation, managed by Save the Children India and implemented by Mahatma Gandhi Sewa Ashram.
The evaluation will be done in 20 panchayats in Manawar & Khuksi blocks in Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh. As part of this evaluation our team is interacting with the households with survivors of child labour & at risk children, members of the child protection committes established under integrated child protection scheme, children groups, women SHGs, School Management Committee members, PRI members, Block, District & State level government officials & business houses and representatives from the implementing, managing & donor organizations.

Today we are looking at preventing diseases in #poultry_farming.
TIPS TO PREVENT DISEASE INFECTION IN #POULTRY
1. Always obtain hatching eggs and replacement stock for your flock from a reputable #hatchery or dealer.
2. If possible, house #chickens by age group, separating younger birds from older members of the flock. Young poultry need time to develop immunity.
3. Limit farm visitors’ access to your flock to prevent the spread of infectious agents. If a visitor would like to see your chickens, ask them to wear freshly laundered clothes and clean footwear and request that they avoid contact with any other birds the day of their visit.
4. Quarantine new flock members for at least three weeks. During this time, ask your #veterinarian to visit your farm.
5. Provide clean living quarters for your #flock. Remove manure frequently (both viruses and parasites are shed via feces), and immediately discard any feed or bedding that becomes wet. Coarse bedding is preferable to fine as it produces less dust.
6. Ensure good #ventilation in buildings where you keep your flock.
7. After returning from agricultural shows quarantine chickens and other poultry for two to three weeks and monitor them closely for any signs of illness or disorders. The combination of a large group of birds and close quarters makes agricultural shows common sites for the transfer of communicable organisms, resulting in respiratory outbreaks.
In addition to practicing good bio-security, consider putting a vaccination program in effect with your flock. This is particularly valuable in preventing outbreaks of viral infection, for which there is no treatment.

A dialogue on preventing extremism in the Eastleigh community of Nairobi, Kenya, organized by the Sisters Without Borders (SWB) network. Sisters Without Borders is USIP's partner in Kenya for the Women Preventing Violent Extremism (WPVE) project. With training, resources, and other support from USIP, the network is able to foster trust in their communities and create spaces like this one, where women feel comfortable to speak candidly about their experiences and the problems they see, and discuss possible solutions. These dialogues, which are one of many types of context-specific activities pursued by the SWB network, build constructive connections in the community and also feed into policy conversations about preventing extremism at the local, national, and regional levels.
