Sometimes a horrible photo is just so much fun that you can't throw it away. I was on my way to get something out of my car at 11pm last night and was using the light on my phone to find my way without running into any wildlife when I heard the chatter of tiny voices. I looked up into the massive maple tree in our yard and saw five little bandits watching me. By the time I took this shot with my phone four had climbed high into the tree. This little brave and curious one stayed put to get a better look at this strange human lurking around in the dark.
With all its might, winter once again tried to resist the emerging spring. Even though it seemed to prevail at first, the sun and the warmth finally managed to gain the upper hand against the wintry, pervasive cold, its bitter frost. They were able to prepare the conditions for new growth and life.
except that it ain't so :-)

Black scars of devastating forest fires in 2007 can be seen everywhere along the S50/S51 hike with dark bark of the Canary Island pine IPinus canariensis) that still stains when touched. However, fire triggers growth of bluish-green glaucous epicormic shoots in the lower trunk, a characteristic feature of this pine as seen in this image. Taken on the circular S50/S51 hike from Llanos De La Pez to Pico de las Nieves. Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain
Hoffentlich setzt sich das Licht durch und wir können die Belastungen durch C und die "Irr" - Wege auf einigen politischen Bühnen der Welt hinter uns bringen.
💙🎶💙🎶💙
Let's hope that light will prevail in the end and that we can leave C and the frenzy on some political stages behind us.

Happy Wednesday to all.
Worrying times for all of us wherever we are.
For the technical jargon, the image was photostacked from 10 photos @ about 48MB each. Even this small number of files overloaded the default settings of photoshop; a closer look at these will be necessary.

Abandoned areas are always fascinating to me because they show how badass nature is. Like a phoenix from the ashes, nature always rises again. We can hold it at bay, but it will overcome us eventually.

Privés d'eau, tous les végétaux aquatiques ont péri. Le fond de l'étang est jonché de nénuphars morts.
Without water, all aquatic plants have perished. The bottom of the pond is littered with dead water lilies.

Jardín de Cactus was the last intervention work César Manrique performed in Lanzarote.
The artist from Lanzarote could see beyond how run down the ancient rofera was. Roferas were the quarries that raids are taken from to create a very particular home for cactaceae flowers from all over he world.
Surrounded by the largest cactus plantation of the island, dedicated to crops of cochineal insect, a product of great financial relevance in Lanzarote in the 19th Century. Jardín de Cactus has around 4,500 specimens of 450 different species, of 13 different families of cactus from the five continents. The green shade of the plants stands out against the blue sky and the dark volcano creating a harmonious explosion of colour that impresses visitors. The only sounds that break the peace and quiet that prevails, are singing birds and boozing insects, enjoying their very own oasis.
High volcanic ash monoliths, that maintain the memory of years gone by, challenging plants from America, Africa and Oceania. At the top, on a small hill, windmills can be seen on the horizon, still standing, where Canarian cornmeal was ground dating back to the 19th Century.
It was a good day, this January 20, 2021.
The Lincoln Memorial, Washington, D.C. USA
Mining my "vast digital archive" for this one (from OCT 2012).
While I have made only one visit to Washington D.C., I have been to the Lincoln Memorial three times. - two of them at night. BY FAR, my favorite experience in Washington. I highly recommend a night-time visit. True inspiration.
our most deep sympathy and thoughts for the families and victims of Barcelona...and of anyplace in the world where violence tries to challenge peace and love...no matter what race, what ideology, what religion, what gender...have no fear, love is much stronger than hate...
Operation Bluestar
Amritsar (India) - In June 1984, the Golden Temple was the scene of a massacre, of which the Shiks were the victims. Occupied by a group of Sikh separatists under the orders of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, after the failure of negotiations with the Indian Federation, the attack was ordered by the Prime Minister of the time: Indira Gandhi.
At the end of the battle, 493 mutineers were killed, including 100 women and 75 children. To which must be added the 86 wounded who were not executed. The Indian military meanwhile, would have lost 334 men (86 dead and 248 wounded).
The Golden Temple, stained with the blood of the insurgents and desecrated by the boots of the assailants, is considered an irreparable insult by the Sikh extremists. This military attack called "Operation Blue Star", could not go unpunished according to the Sikhs. It will result on October 31 of the same year, the assassination of Indira Gandhi, killed by her two bodyguards of Sikh faith.
Today, Sikhs and Hindus have buried the hatchet and avoid evoking this tragic episode in their recent history. Reason prevailed in the face of resentment. In their sacred Temple, the Sikhs once again welcome all visitors, offering room and board to those who request it. Without distinction of social status or religion. A principle to ponder.
