Pretty Changes Barbie 1979, Made in Taiwan

PERSONAL FUN FACT: My Pretty Changes Barbie may have been body-less when I adopted her, but she still had her entire outfit! Lord knows where her body waltzed off to, but I'm actually glad that I got her outfit and some of her accessories instead. In addition to getting just about all of Pretty Changes Barbie's things with her, I must say that her outfit was in surprisingly excellent condition, especially considering the lot she was from. Most of the other 70s clothes I acquired from the same bin were hole ridden, stained, or altered. This outfit however was untouched, and after a wash, it brightened up perfectly! When I first got Barbie, I actually found all of her hair accessories with her. However, they were ancient and disgusting, so I opted to throw them away. I admit, I hardly ever keep doll hair pieces because I consider them bio hazardous, and a pain in the bum to store! My two favorite pieces that came with Miss Barbie have to be her delicate rose choker and her super sleek yellow ankle strap pumps! What I love the most about her shoes is the fact that they are just like my SuperStar Barbie's, only in the color yellow! What I love the most about her choker is that it reminds me of my Midnight Dance Meygan and Fianna's rose chokers!

Another doll from the Gumtree lot. She's in decent shape. Her arm is all scratched up/peeling and there's a dot on her nose I've not removed, plus her hair is either thinning on top or needs to be restyled. But she's got a fair few pieces of her original outfit (there are a couple of others not pictured) and I absolutely love this outfit, actually.

I don't have the hat, but this is the all-yellow Pretty Changes Barbie outfit. The more common version is white and yellow.

The sad thing is I have two more Pretty Changes outfits--she was part of triplets. But she's putting on a brave front. :-)

***My doll is not on the correct body.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Me and Pretty Changes Barbie go way back! She was one of the dolls that Colleen and I added to our collection within the first year we started buying dolls again. On New Year's Day 2012, Dad took us out to an indoor flea market, which happened to be open. One of the sellers who we regularly bought doll stuff from had set aside a case of mangy 70s Barbies for us. Dad bought Colleen and me the case that day, which I can remember rifling through while we were sitting at the food court area of the flea market. Pretty Changes Barbie was a very perplexing case. Many of the dolls from her lot were re-bodied. However, Miss Pretty Changes was simply a decapitated head, that was rolling around the bottom of the case, tangled up in all the clothes. The body that I initially thought must be hers, actually turned out to belong to a SuperStar Barbie, whose head was missing from said case (only her surviving dress left any indication to her identity). Poor Barbie still doesn't have a properly matching body after all these years. The newer body which she is currently on is way too tan for her. The 70s body type which she belongs on should be very pink in tone. Sadly, the SuperStar body I got from the same lot had half of it's neck broken, so it was unusable. Even though Miss Barbie had no body when I got her, she strangely had just about all her stuff...including her shoes and her mangy hair accessories! Her head and her clothes are in lovely condition--I mean, you can see just how shiny and silky her hair is in this picture! I'm really glad that I keep a container of spare bodies and doll parts, because otherwise a gem like this lady would still be disembodied!

VERY curly hair, I love this one

These are some of the Barbie dolls I played with as a child in the 70's. My mom has always loved fashion and was a seamstress and avid sewer at the time. She created custom clothing for my dolls with fabric leftover from alteration and sewing jobs. Here is a flowery halter dress. It has a long belt that ties in a giant bow in the back.
