This pretty little House Finch flew up to one of the top branches of our holly bush and sat there long enough for me to grab a few shots during our recent Harvest Fest.
When looking a the photos later I noticed the tips of the beak are slightly crossed. Hard to tell in these photos because it was pretty far away, but hopefully he'll stick around long enough for me get some close ups.

Well, this description will be somewhat different, since I write for you and some of my sponsors.
First of all, a thousand apologies for being sooo inactive, my flickr was suspended due to the new rules and I had to wait almost a week for the problem to be solved.
Second, I've had to delete almost all of my photos from old to some new (in this case, the ones I felt didn't meet the “safe” standard).
And third and last, I will be making posts a little less constant because my university scheduled me in the afternoon and I hardly have much time between jobs, projects and exams, because I have to redo my schedules and get used to it. However, after so many obstacles I am still encouraged and always committed to continue making my posts, always giving my best. This purple "pretty boy" was exactly where it might be expected to be found, using his big yellow feet to trounce around the shallow water of a marsh.
This Purple Gallinule was observed in the marsh at Celery Fields, near Sarasota, Florida.

Tulips (Tulipa) form a genus of spring-blooming perennial herbaceous bulbiferous geophytes (having bulbs as storage organs). Tulipa is a genus of the lily family, Liliaceae The flowers are usually large, showy and brightly colored, generally red, pink, yellow, or white (usually in warm colors). They often have a different colored blotch at the base of the tepals (petals and sepals, collectively), internally. Tulips originally were found in a band stretching from Southern Europe to Central Asia, but since the seventeenth century have become widely naturalised and cultivated. Flowering in the spring, they become dormant in the summer once the flowers and leaves die back, emerging above ground as a shoot from the underground bulb in early spring. The tulip's flowers are usually large and are actinomorphic (radially symmetric) and hermaphrodite (contain both male (androecium) and female (gynoecium) characteristics), generally erect, or more rarely pendulous, and are arranged more usually as a single terminal flower, or when pluriflor as two to three (e.g. Tulipa turkestanica), but up to four, flowers on the end of a floriferous stem (scape), which is single arising from amongst the basal leaf rosette. 11645

Magnolia is a large genus of about 210 flowering plant species in the subfamily Magnolioideae of the family Magnoliaceae. Magnolia is an ancient genus. Appearing before bees did, the flowers are theorized to have evolved to encourage pollination by beetles. To avoid damage from pollinating beetles, the carpels of Magnolia flowers are extremely tough. The flowers are bisexual with numerous adnate carpels and stamens are arranged in a spiral fashion on the elongated receptacle. The natural range of Magnolia species is a disjunct distribution, with a main center in east and southeast Asia and a secondary center in eastern North America, Central America, the West Indies, and some species in South America. 35028
I took this photo of a Ranunculus at the gardening show last Thursday where it was used as a decoration. They didn't sell any ranunculus plants there as the ranunculus season will soon be over anyway but had lots of other plants to choose from. It's probably a good thing that my garden is quite full already.

Camellia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae. Camellias are evergreen shrubs or small trees up to 20 m tall. They are found in eastern and southern Asia, from the Himalayas east to Japan and Indonesia. There are about 300 species and around 3,000 hybrids. Their flowers are usually large and conspicuous, one to 12 cm in diameter, with five to nine petals in naturally occurring species of camellias. The colors of the flowers vary from white through pink colors to red. Of economic importance in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent, leaves of C. sinensis are processed to create the popular beverage tea. The ornamental C. japonica, C. sasanqua and their hybrids are the source of hundreds of garden cultivars. C. oleifera produces tea seed oil, used in cooking and cosmetics. Callistephus is a monotypic genus of flowering plants in the aster family, Asteraceae, containing the single species Callistephus chinensis. Its common names include China aster and annual aster.
