The Governor gave remarks at a plaque presentation to remember Ted Freeman, a native of Lewes and the first American astronaut to lose his life in the United States’ quest to reach the moon. Freeman Highway, named in honor of the astronaut in 1964, is a portion of the 15 mile loop that will connect the new Gordon’s Pond Trail with Breakwater Junction Trail. The plaque will be installed at the door of the Lewes Ferry Terminal.
