What used to be known as the Parish Church is now Preston Minster. It became a Minster when Preston became a City and a lot of money was spent on alterations and imrovements which, so far as I can see, were in every case genuine improvements and not, as is sometimes the case, change merely for the sake of change.

St Cassian's church Chaddesley Corbett will be familiar to anyone who travels by road between Bromsgrove and Kidderminster, being something of a landmark easily visible from the road, which bends as if to momentarily direct travellers towards it. I first saw it this way in passing (during an outing long before I came to live in the area) and remembered it making an impression, deservedly so too since it is one of the most rewarding churches in the area.
It is a handsome building externally and clearly built in several phases, the oldest parts being Norman though little of this is apparent outside where the earliest part appears to be the 14th century chancel with its intricately traceried windows. The south nave aisle seems to be later medieval while the tower and spire are later still, having been built in the 18th century (though in Gothick style so the overall effect is surprisingly harmonious).
Stepping inside reveals the older 12th century origins of the building, the north nave arcade in particular being a relic of the Norman church (that on the south appears to be transitional and thus only a few decades later despite the much larger pointed arches). However the most striking ancient feature here is easily the Romanesque font, a fantastically turbulent mass of carving seemingly composed of interlacing scrollwork and writhing dragons, one of the most notable Norman fonts in the country. There is more besides, from medieval tombs to fine 14th century details in the chancel and some good glass, certainly a church worth stopping for after that pleasing introductory glimpse from the road!
Chaddesley Corbett church was usually kept open and welcoming on a daily basis in normal times and hopefully by now (or shortly) will be again. The village beyond it is also an attractive place with various handsome period buildings close to the church.

Governor Kay Ivey awards more than $10.5 Million in CDBG Funds for Improvement Projects in 28 Alabama CommunitiesThursday January 31, 2018 in Montgomery, Ala. “Lives will be improved thanks to these projects funded through the Community Development Block Grant program,” Governor Ivey said. “People who have been subject to impure water will get clean water to drink, bathe and wash. People who have been maneuvering unsafe roads will soon be traveling smooth streets, and the list goes on. I am so thankful for this program and the assistance it provides to communities who may be unable to afford these needed improvements on their own.”
