Two South Derbyshire charities have been given a boost thanks to South Derbyshire District Council Chairman Cllr Ann Hood. Cllr Hood is presenting Scropton Riding and Driving Centre and the South Derbyshire Music Centre with cheques for money raised during her year in office.

World Tipiṭaka Presentation to Tokyo University 2008
In a historic one-thousand-year wooden pavilion of the enlightened Prince Shotogu in Osaka, Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chualbhorn from Thailand, presided over a special photograph session with the Royal Gift of 40-volume Tipiṭaka in Roman script in the foreground.
This occasion is one of the grand gatherings of international leaders and educators for Wisdom and Peace from Japan and Thailand, including the Vice President of Tokyo University, Director of the National Diet Library and Dean of Veterinarian Science, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, who represented the President of Chulalongkorn University.
Included in the picture is also the President of the Constitutional Court of Thailand and the Chief Air Marshal and his wife, a professor of Thai Language and Literature
The royal gift of the World Tipiṭaka Edition in Roman Script (2005) which is the world's first printed edition from the 1957 International Tipiṭaka Council Resolution was presented to Tokyo University following the royal gift of Tipiṭaka in Siam-script edition (1893) which was sent to Tokyo University as a gift of Dhamma by Princess Chulabhorn's great grandfather, King Chulachomklao of Siam during the reign of Emperor Meiji of japan.

Visit of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General (Gen) Rick Hillier and Rear-Admiral (RAdm) McFadden onboard Her Majesty Canadian Ship (HMCS) Toronto. The ship is docked at 12 Wing Shearwater, NS. Both the CDS and the RAdm are giving out medals to the crew of HMCS Toronto. The ship was on deployment from July to December 2007 and represented NATO's inaugural circumnavigation around the horn of Africa whereby HMCS Toronto played a leading role in establishing relationships with the many regional navies. Following a volcanic eruption in the Red Sea off the coast of a small Yemeni island, HMCS Toronto's intense forty-eight hour search and rescue operation through the lava filled waters resulted in the recovery of one survivor and two bodies. In the mediterranean Sea, this ship effectively executed high-risk boarding operations with linkages to criminal and terrorist affiliated shipping networks. There's an award presentation. The event starts on the flight deck and proceeds into the different sections of the ship to the flight hanger and the main cave.
