More than 50 volunteers from Central New Jersey attended Prepare Palooza. Volunteers got trained in Hands Only CPR, learned how to be Red Cross Ready, practiced installing smoke alarms and learned about youth preparedness.

In the run-up to Hurricane Gustav, Gov. Perry spent significant time with Texans preparing for the storm.

Workforce Resilience and Emergency Preparedness plenary session at the International Transport Forum Summit on 22 May 2025 in Leipzig, Germany. Geraldine de Baston moderates the session and speakers include Andrea San Gil León, Executive Director, Global Network for Popular Transportation; Hiroaki Yamaguchi, Senior Director of the Transport Sector Office at ADB; Nannette Lafond-Dufour, Chief Impact Officer, Publicis Groupe, President, Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society; Stephen Cotton, General Secretary of the International Transport Workers’ Federation and Umberto de Pretto, Secretary General of IRU. The session explores strategies for supporting and recognising workers, addressing workforce shortages, and improving emergency preparedness in transport systems.

Attendees enjoyed meeting and learning at the 2019 Preparedness Summit in St. Louis.

On Sunday evening, August 31, Texas Air National Guard C-130s arrived at Austin's Bergstrom International Airport carrying Louisiana citizens with special medical needs who had been evacuated in advance of Hurricane Gustav.

Gov. Perry is briefed by Dr. Lakey, Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services on the evacuation of medical patients in advance of Hurricane Gustav.
