Pontremoli every summer acts as godmother at the Bancarella.
The birth of the Bancarella Prize is due to the tradition of the Pontremolesi Booksellers, a particular and unique phenomenon in Italy. From the high Lunigiana, a land of great emigration, from the villages of Montereggio, Parana, Pozzo, Mulazzo, Busatica, Filattiera, Bratto, are generated lots and generations of itinerant booksellers. Many of the bookshops in the north and central Italy have been opened and, in part, are still managed by the Pontremolesi. The Bancarella Award stems from this tradition that characterizes the history of the Lunigiana emigration. In August 1952 the first gathering of booksellers in Pontremolesi. This is how the Bancarella Award was created, the only literary prize managed exclusively by the booksellers.

Il castello di Primano fu fondato nel 79 a.C. con il nome di Prima Castra. Fu importante dal punto stattegico perchè sorge a 300 metri e domina tutta la valle circostante. Nel 1600 fu di proprietà dei Porcia e nel 1800 un nobile triestino lo restaurò completamente. Cadde nuovamente in rovina, ma ora è stato restaurato ed aperto al pubblico.

In 1600 became the property of Pigs and in 1800 a nobleman Trieste restored it completely. Again fell into disrepair, but has now been restored and opened to the public.
