The Next Global Depression Is coming and Optimism Won’t Slow It Down.

The world is confused and frightened. COVID-19 infections are on the rise across the U.S. and around the world, even in countries that once thought they had contained the virus.

Let’s start with the word depression. There is no commonly accepted definition of the term. That’s not surprising, given how rarely we experience catastrophes of this magnitude. But there are three factors that separate a true economic depression from a mere recession. First, the impact is global. Second, it cuts deeper into livelihoods than any recession we’ve faced in our lifetimes. Third, its bad effects will linger longer.

A depression is not a period of uninterrupted economic contraction. There can be periods of temporary progress within it that create the appearance of recovery. The Great Depression of the 1930s began with the stock-market crash of October 1929 and continued into the early 1940s, when World War II created the basis for new growth. That period included two separate economic drops: first from 1929 to 1933, and then again from May 1937 into 1938. As in the 1930s, we’re likely to see moments of expansion in this period of depression.

Depressions don’t just generate ugly stats and send buyers and sellers into hibernation. They change the way we live. The Great Recession created very little lasting change. Some elected leaders around the world now speak more often about wealth inequality, but few have done much to address it. Large segments of society, particularly people who weren’t already on the verge of retirement, were able to hunker down and later return to the same approach to saving and investing they practiced before the crisis. They were rewarded with a period of solid, long-lasting recovery. That’s very different from the current crisis. COVID-19 fears will bring lasting changes to public attitudes toward all activities that involve crowds of people and how we work on a daily basis

Even with all this Knowledge we have to carry on and keep thinking positive. We have to stay strong and stick together. This depression wasn`t the first and won`t be the last.

A matchstick is a slender piece of flammable wood used as a match. People in little world still need matchsticks to light up things. Sadness fullfilled the Macro Mondays Community when the sad news reached us last week that Hans has past away. In Honor to Hans i decided to take this image and want to close with the following poem.

All physical damage begins on the atomic level, with the shifting or breaking of atomic bonds, and the rate at which damage to any physical thing occurs is therefore largely dependent on the elasticity of such bonds in the material being subjected to stress. Damage can occur where atomic bonds are not completely broken, but are shifted to create unstable pockets of concentration and diffusion of the material, which are more susceptible to later breakage. The effect of outside forces on a material depends on the relative elasticity or plasticity of the material; if a material tends towards elasticity, then changes to its consistency are reversible, and it can bounce back from potential damage. However, if the material tends towards plasticity, then such changes are permanent, and each such change increases the possibility of a crack or fault appearing in the material.

What we got here in little world is trully a crime. Someone damaged the old stilled lightbulb and left away with all the trash. This brings up another case for the CSI-Crime Team. Hope they catch the responsible person as sooon as possible :)

The latest #macromondays challenge #Broken prompts me to share this picture with you.

Another day in little world - another day with trouble! This time old granny takes care of it :)

When a glass breaks, it shatters into small pieces that can be dangerous if not handled properly. These pieces can cause cuts and injuries if they come into contact with skin, so it's important to be careful when cleaning up broken glass.

To clean up broken glass, you should wear gloves and use a broom and dustpan to sweep up the larger pieces. Then, use a damp paper towel or cloth to carefully pick up the smaller pieces. Be sure to dispose of the glass in a container that won't break, such as a cardboard box or plastic container with a lid.

If the broken glass is on a carpeted or upholstered surface, you can use a vacuum cleaner to clean up the larger pieces. Be sure to use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment to avoid damaging the carpet or upholstery.

The piano is an acoustic, stringed musical instrument invented in Italy by Bartolomeo Cristofori around the year 1700 (the exact year is uncertain), in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather). It is played using a keyboard, which is a row of keys (small levers) that the performer presses down or strikes with the fingers and thumbs of both hands to cause the hammers to strike the strings.

Most modern pianos have a row of 88 black and white keys, 52 white keys for the notes of the C major scale (C, D, E, F, G, A and B) and 36 shorter black keys, which are raised above the white keys, and set further back on the keyboard. This means that the piano can play 88 different pitches (or "notes"), spanning a range of a bit over seven octaves

A Güiro is an music instrument used in traditional Puerto Rican music. It is a notched hollowed-out gourd, which produces music by dragging a wooden stick-like object, commonly known as a scrapper, or more formally called a “pua,” on the rigids on the outside of the Güiro. It is a Idiophone, can be made from wood, gourd, metal, plastic or fiberglass.

The guiro is believed to have originated in Puerto Rico with the Taíno people, the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean in the 16th century and beyond. The earliest recorded reference to the instrument was in 1788, by a monk and Puerto Rico historian called Fray Íñigo Abbad y Lasierra.

This carved wooden frog güiro is made in mexico. I brought it back from holidays quite back a while. Run the provided stick along the ridges on its back from rear to front to make it croak, or hit it on the head to make a 'pock' sound.

They are commonly served as a snack, side dish, or appetizer. The basic chips are cooked and salted; additional varieties are manufactured using various flavorings and ingredients including herbs, spices, cheeses, other natural flavors, artificial flavors, and additives.

In little world they get some more usecases than just to be food. Sometimes it gets used by skaters as an half pipe :)

When i read the theme for the next Maco Mondays Challenge then instantly Memories of my childhood came up. I don`t know how many Hours my friends an me have spent playing this great Game called RISK ! The Game is well known around the world and gets played since over 60 Years by Generations. Back in 1957 it got created by Albert Lamorisse, a french filmmaker. I still own the Game and we play it from time to time when we celebate game nights. So i took the chance to shoot an image of my DE LUXE Version of the Game for the theme.

Risk is a strategy board game of diplomacy, conflict and conquest for two to six players. The standard version is played on a board depicting a political map of the world, divided into forty-two territories, which are grouped into six continents. Turns rotate among players who control armies of playing pieces with which they attempt to capture territories from other players, with results determined by dice rolls. Players may form and dissolve alliances during the course of the game. The goal of the game is to occupy every territory on the board and, in doing so, eliminate the other players. The game can be lengthy, requiring several hours to multiple days to finish. European versions are structured so that each player has a limited "secret mission" objective that shortens the game.

Raffaello is a spherical coconut–almond truffle that Italian manufacturer Ferrero brought to the market in 1990. The praline comprises a spherical wafer which is filled with a white milk cream and white blanched almonds. It is surrounded by a coconut layer. It does not contain chocolate. However it does contain lactose, making Raffaello incompatible for consumers with lactose intolerance.

But did you ever wonder how they get the coconut onto the ball ? Well now you know that this another hard job for the tiny little helpers :)

The piano is an acoustic, stringed musical instrument invented in Italy by Bartolomeo Cristofori around the year 1700 (the exact year is uncertain), in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather). It is played using a keyboard, which is a row of keys (small levers) that the performer presses down or strikes with the fingers and thumbs of both hands to cause the hammers to strike the strings.

Most modern pianos have a row of 88 black and white keys, 52 white keys for the notes of the C major scale (C, D, E, F, G, A and B) and 36 shorter black keys, which are raised above the white keys, and set further back on the keyboard. This means that the piano can play 88 different pitches (or "notes"), spanning a range of a bit over seven octaves

Look at that ! Those two tiny fishermans decided to do a Fishing Excursion in little world. They found a very snug location as they fish in walnuts. They seem to have a great time and might relax from there hard work they had the last couple weeks :)

It was the May the 16th back in 1983 when Michael Jackson performed his first Moonwalk!

When the US music label " Motown " celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1983 with a big show, the stars of the soul scene met. In addition to Marvin Gaye , Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder also appear. The Jackson brothers are also there.

After their appearance, Michael Jackson remains alone on stage - in his classic outfit : hat, glove, pulled up pants, white socks, patent leather shoes. The US singer presents the song " Billie Jean " from his new album " Thriller ".

When he starts dancing, the audience is thrown from their seats. He does pirouettes, stands on tiptoe, spins across the stage as if there was no gravity. After three minutes and 39 seconds it happens: Jackson moves backwards across the stage with gliding steps - for the first time he shows the " Moonwalk ".

Jackson did not invent dance. "The moonwalk came from these great black kids who live in the ghettos," he says. "I just took it over." The " moonwalk " itself is older though. It was performed by dancers like Bill Bailey as early as the 1940s , when it was still called " Backslide ".

In the 1960s, he is part of the repertoire of Radio - dancers like the " Electric Boogaloos ". Jackson is taught the step for the " Motown " show. By Jackson's distinctive dance style of "will moonwalk " famous.
