When Love Breaks Down — Prefab Sprout
My love and I, we work well together
But often we're apart
Absence makes the heart lose weight, yeah,
Till love breaks down, love breaks down
Oh my, oh my, have you seen the weather
The sweet september rain
Rain on me like no other
Until I drown, until I drown
When love breaks down
The things you do
To stop the truth from hurting you
When love breaks down
The lies we tell,
They only serve to fool ourselves,
When love breaks down
The things you do
To stop the truth from hurting you
When love breaks down
The things you do
To stop the truth from hurting you
When love breaks down,
Love breaks down
My love and I, we are boxing clever
She'll never crowd me out
Fall be free as old confetti
And paint the town, paint the town
When love breaks down
The things you do
To stop the truth from hurting you
When love breaks down
The lies we tell,
They only serve to fool ourselves,
When love breaks down
The things you do
To stop the truth from hurting you
When love breaks down
You join the wrecks
Who leave their hearts for easy sex
When love breaks down
When love breaks down

401Da-314 hauls EP05-23 through the Staszica settlement in Pruszków, as preparations for the 2024 night of museums.
Recently, while browsing throught Philipp's gallery I came across his picture of the M62-0023 with a prefab settlement in the background. Then I remembered that I have one more pic to show from the transport of EP05-23 for the night of museums, utilising a similar subject.
What I didn't mention in my last posts about my only visit on the WKD is that the unelectrified connecting track between Komorów and Pruszków was proposed to be upgraded to serve the role of a normal commuter rail line.
Pruszów is one of the largest cities in the Warsaw metro area and it has two active passenger rail lines, but neither of them passes through the most densely populated areas. Activating the unelectrified track connecting PKP PLK and WKD would mean that citizens get almost direct access to railways at their doorstep.
However, as always, due to many difficulties, like:
-lack of funding
-level crossing avery couple of meters
-noise pollution
-a fire brigade positioned directly on the railway tracks (soon in one of my next posts)
-lack of diesel units in WKD
-and others
the project was never finalised.

Built in 1947 and responding to a housing shortage, 160 000 "prefabs" were produced until the end of the 40s. They were meant to last for ten years only, but because they were made from new and non-corroding super-materials (yes, asbestos cement!) they lasted a lot longer. Inside, they were well-designed and offered a modest degree of comfort. They also came with a garden or an allotment. Seen at the Chiltern Open Air Museum, Chalfont St Peter, Fuji X-Pro1.
The nuthach has moved into this bird home. Note the typical plastering of the hole with mud to make the entrance smaller.
Typical prefab block in my hometown. They built thousands in the 70s and 80s to house all the people who migrated to the cities to work in the industry of communist Hungary.

schroef-combinatie-paal
screw combination post
Also: combination screw pile, combi screw pile, screw combi pile. A screw combination pile is a ground-displacement screw pile formed in the ground with a loose, lost screw point (drill head). The screw combination post therefore resembles a huge pencil. The shaft (auxiliary pipe) is fitted with a prefab reinforced concrete pile and a grout/concrete mixture, after which the auxiliary pipe is pulled.

The blocks at Beniowskiego street of the W-70 construction series are one of the last buildings in Gdynia with exposed and visible prefab panels and connections between them. Thanks to being located on a slope of the local hills created by the glacier thousands of years ago, they provide an amazing view of Gdynia for the inhabitants.
The W-70 variant of prefabricated construction was developed in the 1970s and was commonly used in Poland until the 1990s, interchangably with the OWT system.
Everything depends on the weather and perspective. This prefab of the type W-70 could have aswell been looking as beautiful as the other ones shown in my Prefab Paradise series, if not for the depressing, foggy, gloomy weather, which makes for a perfect setting for pictures discrediting Eastern European architecture.
I came across this settlement of prefabs during my short trip in Żukowo while waiting for a cargo train to pass by. It is most likely constructed in the 1980s and is currently undergoing a thermo-modernisation, just like other prefabs in Poland.
As always, while photographing in such areas, you are being closely watched by a group of old ladies, staring at you from their windows, with their cats accompanying them.

Meet Joy Hughes (with her knitting) and her son Berwyn, celebrating his 19th birthday, in their garden at 36 Hillside Close, Banstead, Surrey on 25th June 1955. In the background is their prefab home, a familiar sight in many parts of Banstead and the rest of the UK in the late 1940s and 1950s.
Prefabs (prefabricated houses) were a major part of Britain’s plan to address the post-Second World War housing shortage, caused by years of extensive bomb damage and hundreds of thousands of soldiers returning from overseas. The planned lifespan of these bungalows was 10 years but today, some 80 years on, a handful are dotted around the country, still in use – a fine testament to the durability of their design and method of construction (precast reinforced concrete, but many also made from asbestos).
All in all, one and a half million of these quick-build family homes were constructed. Known as ‘palaces of the people’ because they had open fires, indoor bathrooms and heated running water, I knew prefabs very well, because in the 1950s several of my school friends lived in them. Indoors, I particularly remember them being cosy and very warm, and I loved visiting them.
This is what I am currently working on in Second Life. A prefab home with furniture included (optional without). I will be offering this home for sale through my store in world Luxe Minimalist or via SLExchange.
I design buildings, and home furnishings in Second Life. I am currently looking for design projects. If you would like to commission me, please send me an email or contact me in Second Life (Nathan Babcock).
