Scarlet Tanagers eat mainly insects along with some fruit and tender buds. Their invertebrate diet includes ants, sawflies, moths, butterflies, beetles, flies, cicadas, leafhoppers, spittlebugs, treehoppers, plant lice, scale insects, termites, grasshoppers, locusts, dragonflies, dobsonflies, snails, earthworms, and spiders. While searching for these tidbits they walk along branches high in the canopy or (rarely) along the ground, or vertically on tree trunks to probe the bark.

One of the young male lions we found at last light in Qorokwe...
I under-exposed the image, to try and highlight the golden light..
Have I over-done it ?
All comments and criticism is gladly welcomed...
California King Snake
Carrizo Plain
These snakes are immune to rattlesnake venom so are one of their predators. They kill by constriction, not venom.
My own photographs of a Eurasian sparrowhawk (accipiter nisus), with added special effects.
A wonderfully agile predator that is attracted to our garden because we have lots of birds on our feeders.
Thanks for all views, comments, group invitations and fave adds.

The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the five species in the genus Panthera, a member of the Felidae. The leopard occurs in a wide range in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia and is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List because leopard populations are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation and are declining in large parts of the global range. In Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait, Syria, Libya, Tunisia and most likely in Morocco, leopard populations have already been extirpated.
Contemporary records suggest that the leopard occurs in only 25% of its historical global range. Leopards are hunted illegally, and their body parts are smuggled in the wildlife trade for medicinal practices and decoration.
Compared to other wild cats, the leopard has relatively short legs and a long body with a large skull. It is similar in appearance to the jaguar, but generally has a smaller, lighter physique. Its fur is marked with rosettes similar to those of the jaguar, but the leopard's rosettes are smaller and more densely packed, and do not usually have central spots as the jaguar's do. Both leopards and jaguars that are melanistic are known as black panthers.
The leopard is distinguished by its well-camouflaged fur, opportunistic hunting behaviour, broad diet, and strength (which it uses to move heavy carcasses into trees), as well as its ability to adapt to various habitats ranging from rainforest to steppe, including arid and montane areas, and its ability to run at speeds of up to 58 kilometers per hour (36 mph). – Wikipedia
A group of Trandoshans hunters gathered on the plant to enjoy their favorite hobby: hunting down Wookiee prisoners. Preferably unarmed Wookiees because it’s not so “fun” when the prey shoots back (I never liked Trandoshans).
According to their “traditions” the group of ten Trandoshans brought the unarmed Wookiee prisoner to this planet where they started their little twisted show.
However on the planet there is another hunter. Someone who came here to track down a prey worth of legend and he is not pleased by the cowardice of these “Space Lizards”.
The Predator tracks down the Trandoshans, killing the dishonorable hunters one by one.
As the Space Lizards meet their demise the Wookiee enjoys his staying on the planet.
Sometimes very good things come from crossovers and the Wookiee is very pleased by this particular one.
The Predator is one of the action figures by Neca based on the Predator Dark Horse Comics.
I hope you like this photo :)
"When I was little, we found a man. He looked like ... like, butchered. The old woman in the village crossed themselves ... and whispered crazy things, strange things: 'El Diablo cazador de hombres'. Only in the hottest years this happens - and this year, it grows hot. We begin finding our men. We found them sometimes without their skins ... and sometimes much, much worse. 'El cazador trofeo de los hombres' ... means the demon who makes trophies of men."

One of those captures that's crying out for a focus stack but it was pretty much impossible with this one, perhaps some of the four third cameras with built in focus stacking might be the answer although I can't imagine how they work out in the field.
Benny plays the part high up in a tree ...if his prey only knew that he has often retreated from our pecking ducklings.

This guy was just walking through the grass in spectacular light. So seldom did good light exist during my 30 days in Africa. Very cloudy most of the time, but opening enough to get good images in great light once in a while.
Updated Predator for another commission and yet again, it's another that puts the old one in my collection to shame. I'd happily say sod the money and keep it, but that'd be mean ; )
Again all Procreate and Fimo on this one and I'm very happy with how it turned out.
Comments always welcome!
This is the shot that put my wrist into a support bandage, I was at such a weird angle trying to get this girl face on that I aggravated a stretched tendon in my wrist, but I think it was worth it. This is again with the Tamron 70-300mm affixed with the Raynox DCR-250 at my favourite Spidey-Spot. The flash reflected off the side eyes but left the two top head eyes blank, giving this an additional sinister feel, which I freaking love!
Here's to another week ahead, I hope everyone is doing well and so as always, thank you! :)
PS: Zoom in ;)
So this was quite a bit of work. I shot a couple of frames, aiming to get detail from "inside" its mouth I could later use with stacking. Initially, I went with 7 shots but noticed a magical leg was created in the process. So I reduced to 4 frames, that were essentially showing what I wanted.
Still, it took some retouching of minor errors resulting from the stacking process.
5x magnification, 4 frames, handheld.
Ospreys are masters of fishing. This particular osprey was looking for a perch to have his breakfast.
Well, this build drained me completely. I've always wanted to build a Predator, but thought it was pretty much impossible. Paddy's fantastic version was just the push I needed to give it a try.
So first things first, I think it turned out terrible. :)) At least it sort of looks like an disproportionate Predator.
This definitely is not the thing aI wanted after all the work I put into it. Still, I at least managed to complete it, at times it felt like I never would.
Well sort of, I'd rather treat this as a wip, as I didn't even bother adding details to finish it off... will probably revisit this sometime.
This Great Blue Heron didn't even notice me standing just five feet away from it
because its eyes are on a fish hiding in the water plants. :)

As of Feb 2020, the life of Dhawajhandi female (T27), one of Kanha Tiger Reserve's most frequently sighted tigress, remains one of the most engrossing and poignant tales of our times.
In 2019, T27 had given birth to 4 cubs, fathered by one of the the dominant and most popular male tigers of Kanha - Chota Munna (T29). Yet, inexplicably, at the end of the monsoon of 2019 and just after the park had opened, T29 just vanished, never to be seen after Oct 29. A tiger, never afraid of tourists or safari vehicles, just gone, leaving behind only a swirl of concern and conspiracy theories.
Tougher, then, gets the life of a tigress such as T27, having to raise her cubs in the heart of her lost mate’s territory, and having to do it all over again, as the story of her current litter plays out almost the same as her current one. It had been her shrewd mind and strong heart that had helped her get through the storm the last time around - as she mated (falsely) with other marauding males and pushed out her own daughter (DJ4) prematurely, so that one may at least live, even as the three two male cubs were lost.
Seen here is Dhawajhandi or T27 in a frame that is iconic of tigerland and the ceaseless story of survival of the prey and the predator - the deer and the tiger
