This baby will leave Liz Taylor's bling-blings to dust. It weighs more than 100 carats and it's worth more than Donald Trump's "alleged" toupee, hehe. Actually, it's worth $10 at the clearance section at TJ Max. I think it's a paperweight. I thought it might be an interesting photo subject. I bought some black river stones too which I tought would be the perfect contrast. I'm no diamond expert but it looks real.

This pendant cross, made of emeralds and diamonds, was donated to the Treasury of San Gennaro in 1878 by King Umberto I and his wife Queen Margherita, monarchs of Italy from the royal house of Savoia. It was an act of thanksgiving to Naples' patron saint after they had survived an assassination attempt in the city. It is on show in the treasure vault of Naples Cathedral.

Auto Self Portrait

This year the first day of the Chinese Year falls on Valentine's Day February 14, 2010

A calendar is a system we use to measure the passage of time, from short durations of minutes and hours, to intervals of time measured in days, months, years and centuries. These are fundamentally based on the astronomical observations of the movement of the Sun, Earth, Moon and stars. Days are measured by the duration of time of one self rotation of the Earth. Months are measured by the duration of time of rotation of the Moon around the Earth. Years are measured by the duration of time it takes for the Earth to rotate around the Sun.

fun facts:

The Chinese calendar predates our 430 year old Gregorian based international calendar by many centuries whereby our year 2010 is year 4708 in the Chinese calendar. This year of 2010 is the Year of the Tiger which is also known by its formal name of 'Geng Yin'.

Chinese New Year Traditions:

Red Envelopes

Red envelopes (hóng bāo) are given to children and unmarried adults. Married couples also give red envelopes to their parents. The envelopes contain money in new bills, and the total amount must be an even number. “Four” is a homonym for “death” therefore the total amount should never contain $4, $40, or $400.

Lantern Festival and Fireworks

The Festival proper begins on the first day of the first lunar month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival. The Chinese believe that evil spirits are driven away by loud noise therefore the Chinese New Year is a very loud celebration. Firecrackers are set off throughout the near two week long holiday, and there are many displays of fireworks lighting up the evening skies.

Some countries such as Singapore and Malaysia restrict the use of fireworks, but Taiwan and Mainland China still allow almost unrestricted use of firecrackers and fireworks.

Chinese Zodiac

The Chinese zodiac cycles every 12 years, each year is named after a respected animal.

Edwardian style diamond and sapphire flower ring. 1.30cts old brilliant cut diamond central stone with half-moon sapphires, brilliant cut diamonds and millgrained platinum setting. I photographed this for our brochure and website.

We recreated this ring from an old design... so although it looks old... it is in fact all new save for the old cut diamond in the centre.

Old cuts diamonds like this one are the precursors to the modern brilliant cuts we are all familiar with. They have less facets than the modern cut and (due to age) tend to look a little off-white!

This clock is filled with gold, silver and precious stones. It's hanging on the wall in the living room and was hand made in Canada by a friend.

Part of the 'Treasury of San Gennaro'--a collection of precious items dedicated to Naples' patron saint--this mitre is made of gilt silver and is covered with over 3,000 precious stones including diamonds, emeralds and rubies. It was made in 1713 by Neapolitan goldsmith Matteo Treglia. It is on show in the treasure vault of Naples' Cathedral.

Ruby earrings that mum-in-law got for me.

For some reason, these remind me of the UB40 song - Red Red Wine!

(By the way - i had to follow up yesterday's monster with something pretty. Hope you like this)

2ct brilliant diamond with 50 diamond pave set bezel. I photographed this on black mainly for Rumour's bespoke jewellery portfolio and website, but I also love the strong contrast and reflections provided by this background which many of my jewellery photos use.

Celtic sapphire engagement ring. Oval Ceylon sapphire set into a Celtic inspired platinum ring with 1 point diamonds set into the patterns. The base of the ring is matt finished. Another "eclectic" ring design, we do love a challenge! Photographed for website and portfolio.

Diamond daisy engagement ring I photographed for Rumour's bespoke jewellery portfolio and website. One of our most popular designs... probably as it is so simple and elegant!

One of my own favourites of my Saturday morning shoot - these are shots taken while mingling within a moving crowd and manouvering to get a clear view. So when things come together, it's a great pleasure.

Went to Natural History Museum last week to see Wildlife Photographer of the Year - always great. Then had a little wander round one of my favourite rooms Earth's Treasury. Full of girl's best friends.... Here's a bit of diamond bokeh.

Both the emerald cross and ring were found in a pewter box. Although the cross’ provenance is not known, it may be speculated that it was going to be a gift for Pope Gregory XV. Inscribed on the top of the pewter box were the initials “ABL,” perhaps for Gregory’s given name, Alessandro Boncompagni Ludovisi.

The cross is made of 18 carat gold and set with seven high-quality emeralds from Columbia’s famous Muzo mine. The reverse is inscribed with representations of the Virgin Mary and child, and St. Anthony of Padua, an emblem for the Franciscan Order, and ironically, the patron saint of lost things.
