An intense sunshine ☀ is bringing another sweltering day, daytime highs are expected to reach 39 degree celcius , Japanese 🏯 authorities have issued a heatstroke alert that people should take precautions such as stays indoors and refraining from exercise , must also use air conditioning and take off mask outdoors when not talking , and drink a lot of water 💦.....

Shen is a 3 month old Snow Leopard cub, born at Big Cat Sanctuary to mother Laila and father Yarko. Both Big Cat Sanctuary and Paradise Wildlife Park in UK have taken completely understandable precautions in protecting their Snow Leopards from COVID 19 and this adorable youngster no longer has any proximity to visitors, to protect him from such risks. This is following a significant number of deaths of Snow Leopards in the United States. This image was therefore taken from quite a distance and shooting through mesh was quite a challenge, though I was able to get a few captures of him.
The Rideau Canal, also known unofficially as the Rideau Waterway, connects the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on the Ottawa River to the city of Kingston, Ontario, on Lake Ontario. It is 202 kilometres in length.[1] The name Rideau, French for "curtain," is derived from the curtain-like appearance of the Rideau River's twin waterfalls where they join the Ottawa River.[2] The canal system uses sections of two rivers, the Rideau and the Cataraqui, as well as several lakes. The Rideau Canal is operated by Parks Canada.
The canal was opened in 1832 as a precaution in case of war with the United States. It remains in use today primarily for pleasure boating, with most of its original structures intact, operated by Parks Canada. The locks on the system open for navigation in mid-May and close in mid-October.[3][4] It is the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America, and in 2007 it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

South Africa will also be locked down, from this Thursday, for 3 weeks. We were gonna go away to the ocean for a few days but that is impossible now. Sad, we were all looking forward to it, but what can one do? Hopefully we can manage to go around June or July. At least the pharmacies and some supermarkets will still be open, with safety precautions.

the malachite kingfisher (corythornis cristatus) is a very small kingfisher related to the freshwaters.
here you can see the"crest" that inspired the scentific name.
the bird is quite common but not easy to approach by land.much better using a little boat with the precaution to switch off the engine.
in this way the bird is more confident.this is necessary to get nice photos because it's just 12 cm in length so we should be able to arrive below 10mts
to get a very good shot.i hope you will enjoy!

Christchurch is a town and civil parish in Dorset on the south coast of England. The town covers an area of 19.5 square miles (51 km) and had a population of 48,368 in 2013. It adjoins Bournemouth to the west, with the New Forest to the east. Further defences were added in the 12th century with the construction of a castle, which was destroyed during the English Civil War by the Parliamentarian Army. During the 18th and 19th centuries smuggling flourished in Christchurch and became one of the town's most lucrative industries. Bournemouth Airport, an international airport which handles approximately 800,000 passengers a year is located within the former borough boundary at Hurn. The airport's industrial park contains a number of aerospace and engineering businesses and is one of the largest employment sites in Dorset. Christchurch is a popular destination for retirees, and has one of the oldest populations in the country, with 30 per cent of residents aged over 65

The May flower is from the cactus family, but has no thorns. In its original habitat, the Atlantic Forest, it presents an epiphyte behavior. In other words: like orchids and many bromeliads, it uses tree trunks as a support. Thanks to horticultural improvement, the variety of colors available on the market today is immense. You can splurge, as you can see in this photo that illustrates this description, the flower of May in WHITE.
Despite the fact that the May flower is a peaceful and favorable cultivation plant, some precautions are mandatory to avoid unpleasantness.
In addition to this one in white, I have another two in white. One of them is all white and the other is white with all edges in pink, flic.kr/p/2kCdNmK.
Fiddling with fire has always been a special pleasure for me (probably for every man). I especially liked the smell of burning wood, bushes or, for example, paper. In this respect, today's topic was not a particular challenge and I had a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I only thought about the safety precautions when the paper strip was already burning.

Mit Feuer zu hantieren, war immer schon ein besonderes Vergnügen für mich (vermutlich für jeden Mann). Vor allem der Geruch von brennendem Holz, Sträuchern oder zum Beispiel Papier hat es mir angetan. Insofern war das heutige Thema keine besondere Herausforderung und hat mir sehr viel Spaß bereitet. Über die Sicherheitsvorkehrungen habe ich mir leider erst Gedanken gemacht, als der Papierstreifen schon lichterloh brannte.

Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, aka Peggy's Point Lighthouse (built in 1915), is one of Nova Scotia’s most well-known and photographed lighthouses in Canada. It's located in the quaint fishing village of Peggy’s Cove along the South Shore of Nova Scotia.
Visitors were reminded to exercise caution at all times, as the ocean water around Peggy’s cove was dangerous. Rogue waves (unpredictable & rough) commonly splash up over the rocks, even on calm, sunny days. Must avoid the wet (slipery) rocks, no swimming and only walk on dry rocks.
With all these precautions in mind, it was a bit nervous wrecking walking on the rocks to search for interesting shooting angles because as the sun faded, the rocks looked darker.
Dark rocks meant wet, white rocks meant dry, but how could you tell once it got dark?!? 🤔🤔🤔

Jane Smith Russel commisioned the church as a memorial to her husband, James Russel who was landlord of the Dunlewey Estate up until his death in 1848. The church was consecreted on the 1st Septmeber 1853.
The church is built from locally quarried white marble & blue quartzite as well as the locally produced red bricks that form the inside window splays.
In later years as the congregation diminshed the church fell out of regular use and into a state of disrepair. In 1955 the roof was removed as a safety precaution with the fittings & fixtures being sent to other churches in the diocese of Derry & Raphoe.
The floor was restored by the local community in 1987 with further renovations to the church and surrounding walls taking place in 2005 to preserve this landmark for future generations. Considerable funds were raised by the local community to aid in the restoration.

The castle follows a motte and bailey design but, unusually, it has two mottes.[2] The only other castle in England to have two mottes is Lincoln Castle.[1]
The first motte, known as Brack Mount, was completed shortly after the Norman conquest of England in 1066 and the second motte, known as the Keep, was completed in the late 11th century.[2] Both mottes were built by William de Warenne, 1st Earl of Surrey.[2] The mottes would originally have been surmounted by wooden palisades but these were replaced with masonry shell keeps at the start of the 12th century.[1] The bailey area also had a stone wall with towers.[1]
Soldiers went out from the castle to engage with Simon de Montfort at the Battle of Lewes in 1264.[3]
Towers were added to one of the shell keeps in the 13th century and a barbican gate was added in the 14th century.[2] When the last of the de Warennes, John, the 7th Earl, died without issue in 1347, he was buried in Lewes Priory.[2] His title was passed to his nephew Richard FitzAlan, 10th Earl of Arundel.[2]
The castle was leased by Sussex Archaeological Society from 1850 and was acquired by Charles Thomas-Stanford and gifted to the Sussex Archaeological Society in 1922.[2]
Wall collapse
On 11 November 2019 at 12:22 GMT the first alert was raised that a 10m by 10m section of the curtain wall had collapsed onto an adjacent house and garden.[4] Emergency services searched the site but found no casualties.[4] Sussex Archaeological Society said that the wall that collapsed was privately owned and one of the last parts of the curtain wall.[4] They also said that the parts owned by the society were checked independently on an annual basis.[4] The castle was closed as a precaution.[4] The wall was described in a contemporaneous news report as weighing 600 tonnes.[4]

This red-backed shrike was photographed at Littlestone quite close to home for me . The bird had been found the day before and luckily for me it had hung around until the next morning Sunday . This lovely close encounter happened when someone drove past the bird and it appeared in the bush beside me . I am sorry that I have not replied to the many kind people who have asked after me over the last couple of months but spare time has very much been lacking . The extra precautions at work making the hours much longer and working six days a week I have found hard , thank you all once again for your support and kindness Graham .

Death Valley in winter was a great vacation spot. Much more vibrant and colorful than my imagination led me to believe possible.
One of the areas of the park that should not be overlooked is the Titus Canyon Road which enters the NP from the Nevada side. Winding its way through the Titanothere Canyon, seen here, the road climbs to Red Pass along the left side of this ridge in the Grapevine Mountains, where it descends into Titus Canyon, home of the 1920s boomtown, Leadfield, before exiting the Grapevine Range through a picturesque slot canyon.
The road is well maintained and attracts a fair number of visitors. As with all of Death Valley, it requires additional precautions in summer months due to heat and may be problematic if rain is anywhere in the forecast.
As beautiful as this location is in color, I thought I would first share it in a monochrome format, highlighting the rugged, spartan, landscape under a dramatic cloudy sky.

Man nehme: einen kleinen Eierbecher der auf seine Unterseite ein Vertiefung vorweist. Darin fülle man eine Mischung aus Wasser, Zuckersyrup und Glyzerin. Mit einem Strohhalm puste senkrecht in die vorsichtig Flüssigkeit, sobald die Seifenblase die erwünschte Größe erreicht hat beende Deine Aktion. Mit der entsprechenden Umrahmung, einer diffusen Lichtquell von oben kannst Du nun Deine Seifenblase fotografieren. Bewegung innerhalb der Luftblase erreichst Du indem Du seitlich sehr sanft mit Deinem Strohhalm in Richtung Seifenblase pustest. Voila, hier das Ergebnis!

Take: a small egg cup with a depression on its underside. Fill it with a mixture of water, sugar syrup and glycerine. Blow vertically into the liquid with a straw. As soon as the bubble has reached the desired size, stop the action. With the appropriate framing, a diffuse source of light from above, you can now photograph your soap bubble. You can achieve movement within the bubble by blowing very gently with your straw in the direction of the bubble. Voila, here is the result!

Prenez : un petit coquetier qui présente une dépression sur sa face inférieure. Remplissez-le d'un mélange d'eau, de sirop de sucre et de glycérine. Avec une paille, soufflez verticalement dans le liquide avec précaution, dès que la bulle de savon a atteint la taille souhaitée, terminez votre action. Avec un cadrage approprié et une source de lumière diffuse provenant du haut, vous pouvez maintenant photographier votre bulle de savon. Vous obtenez un mouvement dans la bulle en soufflant très doucement avec votre paille en direction de la bulle. Voilà, le résultat est là !

From the archives. She was resting at some distance from her mother who was going the adults. As a precaution they keep the cubs away for a certain time. This little girl however followed her mother. I wonder how she will be doing at the moment.....

Les rives du Cher en fin de crue
Il est maintenant possible d'accéder aux rives du Cher avec précautions et patience.
It is now possible to access the banks of the Cher with care and patience.
I think this is an interesting crowd shot because of the person with a mask on the right. In the pits last year at Pitchfork Music Festival, photographers were asked to wear masks, which makes a great deal of sense both for our own safety and the safety of the performers. Some of the photographers didn't take this very seriously, especially as the festival was outside, and there were a few cases of Covid I heard about afterwards.
I'm still not sure how I got Covid later on when I was very careful traveling, though when most people decide to stop following basic precautions, we are all more at risk. In any case, for me Covid lasted 17 days and I had complications because I'm anemic. Even though I went on Paxlovid right away, I have had more heart arrhythmias since August when I was sick. I realize the CDC wants to claim this is all over but when they host a conference and over 30 of their staffers test positive because of it, this tells you their judgement is not to be trusted. I don't love masking in the hot summer sunshine, either, but my health is not worth the risk so even if it is not required this year, I will most likely still be wearing one or two masks whenever I am near a crowd.

A colorful, attractive small bird commonly found in the Himalayan belt of India and much of Southern China and parts of South East Asia. The bird's colors are amazing and like a painting.
The birds are social creatures and always found in flocks. They are also quite shy and vary of the larger birds around. Magpies, Pheasants, Treepies and even a few Laughingthrushes made them dart off into the cover. I guess their small size means lot more precautions are needed.

It was nice to finally do a little get away - - but there is still many precautions due to COVID - - I had to do 3 tests, and thankfully only paid for one of them before leaving Canada.
A cruise in Alaska was nice but certainly not the ultimate way to experience this amazing place. I have been there before which is what makes me realize how much there is to this unbelievable place.
One the cruises first stops was Ketchikan. Great little town that gave me access to a great nature trail within the city limits.
We spotted several eagles and a couple of deer while on this 30 minute hike.
While returning to the port we spotted this fellow while walking down main street. I'm taking this shot while standing in the side walk across the street from where this guy was perched.

But let’s hope you can keep it out of your camera. After taking my D7200 to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, Colorado, after two days the sensor needed some serious cleaning, and I didn’t even change lenses while on the dunes.
The lovely shapes you see here form the Southeastern portion of the dunefield, with Mount Herard on the right. The line of trees at the base of the dunes marks the border of the shallow and wide Medano Creek. The Medano separates the dunes from the Sangre de Cristo mountain range and forms part of the system which created such large formations.
Great Sand Dunes National Park contains the tallest sand dunes in North America, up to 750 feet (229m) for the High Dune. The dunes cover an area of about 30 square miles (78 sq. km), and are visually striking in contrast to the surrounding terrain of the San Luis Valley. The combination of opposing winds, a massive supply of sand from the valley floor, and the sand recycling action of Medano and Sand Creeks are all part of the system that created the dunefield over tens of thousands of years.
You can hike and climb all over these dunes, even sandboard and sled, and splash around in the shallow Medano, but heat and sunburn safety precautions are highly recommended…along with some serious camera care.

This is the view from the summit of Mt. Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts. I hiked it yesterday and found it to be a bit challenging. First, high temperatures made it much more of an effort, and I required far more water. Second, I decided to not hike all the time wearing a mask and only put it on when passing by other hikers. On the way down, that would be every 5 min! :) Not sure if I’ll do another hike for this season.
Understandable precautions but it makes it very challenging, especially in the heat.

I saw your flickr post and I am so happy to hear that your temperature is down to normal! I am also glad that you are taking it seriously as it is still a very real risk everywhere. It’s strange that it’s even the people who have taken all the necessary precautions that are getting sick now but I guess the one improvement is that in most current cases the symptoms are much milder. I wonder if there will ever be a return to “normal” or perhaps this already is the new normal!

My favorite among all the birds from my last trip. A colorful, attractive and very active small bird that is found in plenty in the place we visited. The colors on the bird are amazing and like a painting. It was delightful watching it play around.
The birds are social creatures and always found in flocks. They are also quite shy and vary of the larger birds around. Magpies, Pheasants, Treepies and even a few Laughingthrushes made them dart off into the cover. I guess their small size means lot more precautions are needed.
Again, these are exclusive to the Himalayan belt of India though found much of Southern China and Parts of South East Asia.

Avevamo trovato un ansa in un fiume del nostro Abruzzo dove si erano fermati tanti sedimenti. Il posto era ben frequentato da vari limicoli e con i dovuti accorgimenti (vedi capannino o telo mimetico) siamo riusciti a fotografarne parecchi. Peccato che il fiume non è come un lago privato (vedi Magnolfi) che rimane sempre uguale, cambia di anno in anno e quella bellissima ansa adesso non c'e' più.
Ruff Juv. We had found a loop in a river in our Abruzzo where many sediments had stopped. The place was well attended by various waders and with the necessary precautions (see shed or camouflage cloth) we were able to photograph several. Too bad that the river is not like a private lake (see Magnolfi) that remains the same, changes from year to year and that beautiful bend is now no longer there

Spring has arrived in East Westphalia, after months of rain the Hücker Moor as all our lakes, ponds and rivers is full of water. Not too bad after 2 dry summers. Today I enjoyed beautiful sunshine during our hiking tour. Now "sentenced" to 4 weeks of home-office due to the corona situation I will have the chance to take some time out in the evening sun in the following weeks. Do not worry, no evidence of an infection, my company has decided to take maximum precautions for the entire team. Hücker Moor, Spenge, Ostwestfalen, Germany
The Camden waterfront and downtown areas are considered safe and are patrolled by police. Although the rest of Camden is plagued by urban blight, poverty, and gang-related drug violence, you will be safe as long as you stay in the waterfront and downtown areas and take sensible precautions.
Camden has been dubbed the "most dangerous city" in New Jersey. 264

All my May flowers, I mean every possible color here, bloomed in May. The Christmas cactus are known in the northern hemisphere as the Christmas Cactus (late autumn or early winter), but in the state of São Paulo it has the popular name of the May flower, native to a mountain range in the state of Rio de Janeiro , overhangs trees. The rest of the country calls it the silk flower and it makes sense because of the transparency and delicacy of the flower petals.
It's a shame to be so perennial.
Once a year and for a maximum of 6 days or a maximum of seven days of flowering.
This orange May flower is tricolor. It has an orange inner part, a yellow to orange upper part and a pink stigma. It's very beautiful!

May flower: the cactus that offers beauty instead of thorns:
The May flower - common name of the species Schlumbergera truncata - is one of those plants that we tend to despise most of the year. It is, after all, a true botanical commonplace:
since the days of grandma's gardens, it has been hanging around on any balcony or housed in cachepots on some furniture in the living room. It is also a champion of popularity in floras - ready to be pushed by sellers every time the consumer searches for a plant “for beginners”.
This is all true, yes. But, as I was able to feel myself this week, the fact that it is party rice does not eliminate the extraordinary value and the pleasure of having a May flower inside the house. And pleasure is precisely in the miracle that works, out of nowhere, in your metabolism. During most of the year, the May flower is a discreet little thing, with its branches formed by fragile and evergreen buds releasing at most new buds. Suddenly, sometime between the end of autumn and the beginning of winter, behold that dull plant explodes in buttons with extremely striking shapes and colors - mine, for example, pump out between May and July.
After flowering, it often withers, loses part of the buds and spends the rest of the year trying to recover from the excruciating effort of flowering.
The May flower is from the cactus family, but has no thorns. In its original habitat, the Atlantic Forest, it presents an epiphyte behavior. In other words: like orchids and many bromeliads, it uses tree trunks as a support. Thanks to horticultural improvement, the variety of colors available on the market today is immense. You can splurge, as you can see in this photo that illustrates this post, the very rare flower of May YELLOW.
Despite the fact that the May flower is a peaceful and favorable cultivation plant, some precautions are mandatory to avoid unpleasantness. Here is a basic guide to success:
1) SOIL - As it is a succulent, the may flower requires perfect drainage. She does, however, enjoy a lot of organic matter. So, plant it in pots with holes, filled with pebbles and sand at the bottom and the remaining two thirds completed with vegetable soil. Curiosity: if these conditions are met, the May flower can grow a lot and live for years in small pots.
2) WATERING - Do not overdo it and do not leave dishes filled with water under the pot, to avoid waterlogging and root rot. But also be sure to water frequently - two to four times a week, depending on the weather. She likes the slightly damp earth.
3) LUZ - This is, perhaps, the main catch. The May flower hates receiving direct sunlight, but enjoys well-lit environments. The right places for her, therefore, are balconies and bright interiors, but fresh. Or under the treetops.
4) FLOWERING - The May flower releases its buds when two variables combine: the nights become longer and the minimum temperatures are close to 10-15 degrees. And so it lives up to its name: in the Southeast of Brazil, these ideal conditions are usually registered between mid-May and the end of June.
5) POST-FLOWERING STRESS - May flower is a perennial species, that is, it does not die after giving flowers. Often, however, it cannot withstand the thud of its metabolic explosion: after so much effort, the stem buds become wilted and break easily. In the extreme, the plant dies from stress. To avoid this, it is necessary to redouble the care with nutrition. After flowering, increase the watering slightly and add a little earthworm humus or phosphorus-rich fertilizer (the “P” of the renowned NPK trio).
Last tip: take advantage of the loose buds to produce new seedlings. It's very easy, just fix a piece of them in moist soil.
Warned by the owl of Ivynali, the elven prince of Shimmering Fen, S'hej prepared things to hide N'atela and the child. In Sialdor he had contacted a coachman who would take his family to distant lands, until he could find a solution. On the day of departure, Alef, our scouting demon-human, had stopped to rest in a Sialdor tavern. It was at the door that he saw the strange scene of the escape, and he was curious. When he approached S'hej, he was initially greeted with suspicion. Aleph had taken the precaution of metamorphosing into an elf-Viridian hybrid, which instead of being reassuring to S'hej seemed odd. But hard times create new friendships, and he finally agreed to tell her about their problems. Aleph, who even though he was a demon, had a big heart, promised to help him, and the couple said goodbye to him with some hope in their hearts.
He started a pilgrimage asking in the underworld who was after the child. He contacted the mördaren whom he "convinced" that it was better to look for other "jobs". He finally made it to the Dragon Realm. It would be an epic showdown...
As all this history deserves more time, we will only say that after an implacable fight, Alef won and left the frozen kingdom with the promise that they would leave the rest of the kingdoms of Faireland alone.
For various reasons including Covid precautions I've not visited the hairdresser's since early 2020. Thus I've needed something to 'dress' my hair.

If you don't know what glory is (as was the case with Alice in "Through the Looking Glass"), this image might help you. Decide for yourself. I think this Dandelion is glorious. I used again a very long reflex lens (450mm on my Fuji X-sensor) which is ultra-sensitive when it comes to camera (or object) shake. Because of this, I could not do this shot outside - too windy. The shutter was not only set to "timer" but also to "electronic" in order to minimise vibration. With these precautions it is possible to achieve a sharp close-up, such as this one, even with a reflex lens (that reflects the image twice with mirrors before it is refracted through lenses and only then hits the sensor).
... sur la route des cachettes, l'écureuil descend fréquemment à terre. C'est en effet au sol qu'il constitue ses cachettes, le plus souvent sur les trajets qu'il emprunte régulièrement. Les adultes repèrent à l'odorat les cônes qu'ils ont enfuis précautionneusement à 30 cm de profondeur en prévision de l'hiver. Mais il arrive qu'ils oublient parfois l'endroit exacte où ils ont amassé les graines ! Comme les parents, les petits accumulent et enterrent leurs aliments par un reflexe inné.
L'écureuil peut encore profiter de sa présence au sol pour ramasser les fruits tombés au sol( noix, noisettes ) ou pour cueillir quelques champignons , dont il semble apprécier tout particulièrement certaine espèces.

Chez Lili ils n'ont pas besoin de chercher , ils vont directement dans le panier de Lili qui est bien garni de cacahuètes

With the usual cycle path along the canal, herons are much less shy here and let themselves be approached without any particular precaution.
The Pipevine Swallowtails have been doing great on their own this year. There have been more in the yard than in previous years. I have only raised three so far but can't actually count them until they eclose. They are in the pupal stage in protective custody.
However, if all goes well I will have six more to raise. This beauty was sitting on the porterweed when I spotted her. But then she flitted on over right beside me and deposited six beautiful orange eggs. She even let me do a little video clip with my cell phone. Then when she was finished, she flitted away. Of course, I went in to get my snips (clippers) so I could collect the eggs without damaging the plant.
Today, I shall be doing a bit of Hurricane prep. I hear we are going to have a small one move through this weekend. I was really hoping to skip the hurricanes this year 😂. Butterflies don't like hurricanes. They can handle the rain well enough but the wind is not good for them. For the most part, I expect that they know it's coming and they will either leave the area or take cover in one of the oaks. Butterflies predict the weather better than the weather people.
UPDATE: It appears that the word of mouth info I received about the hurricane was not exactly correct. We are expecting a tropical storm. Still, precautions need to be made and I am ready for what comes.

The Bent Pyramid is an ancient Egyptian pyramid located at the royal necropolis of Dahshur, approximately 40 kilometres south of Cairo, built under the Old Kingdom Pharaoh Sneferu (c. 2600 BC). A unique example of early pyramid development in Egypt, this was the second pyramid built by Sneferu.
The Bent Pyramid rises from the desert at a 54-degree inclination, but the top section (above 47 meters) is built at the shallower angle of 43 degrees, lending the pyramid its very obvious 'bent' appearance.
Archaeologists now believe that the Bent Pyramid represents a transitional form between step-sided and smooth-sided pyramids (see Step pyramid: flic.kr/p/28ExwNy ). It has been suggested that due to the steepness of the original angle of inclination the structure may have begun to show signs of instability during construction, forcing the builders to adopt a shallower angle to avert the structure's collapse. This theory appears to be borne out by the fact that the adjacent Red Pyramid (see the Red Pyramid: flic.kr/p/2bmwo59 ), built immediately afterwards by the same Pharaoh, was constructed at an angle of 43 degrees from its base. This fact also contradicts the theory that at the initial angle the construction would take too long because Sneferu's death was nearing, so the builders changed the angle to complete the construction in time. In 1974 Kurt Mendelssohn suggested the change of the angle to have been made as a security precaution in reaction to a catastrophic collapse of the Meidum Pyramid while it was still under construction.

It is also unique amongst the approximately ninety pyramids to be found in Egypt, in that its original polished limestone outer casing remains largely intact. British structural engineer Peter James attributes this to larger clearances between the parts of the casing than used in later pyramids; these imperfections would work as expansion joints and prevent the successive destruction of the outer casing by thermal expansion.
The ancient formal name of the Bent Pyramid is generally translated as (The)-Southern-Shining-Pyramid, or Sneferu-(is)-Shining-in-the-South.
