Paul Porter's Wood Turnings for Practical Art

June 2014

Panchimalco, El Salvador

I made the flower and punched shapes out of washi tape. The flower using pieces of tape folded over to create petals. The punched shapes by first laying down strips of tape onto card stock and then punching out the shape.

Experimented with smoke and photoshop, comments welcome!

The above page shows the beginning stages of a 3D adaptation of the concept I made using stonework clay.

At this stage I used my concept art to correctly scale and sculpt the basic shapes of my design.

..experimenting a bit with lighting and reflections (sooc)

hmmmm which is the best direction for this highlight.. I just don't know.. I didn't like it as much when I first saw the file as an eye, and then I went back in the file and turned it a half turn counter clockwise (seen above the lower one)..

Its one of my happy accidents.. Beta has a difference in lighting I am beginging to notice as kind of impractical.. I can mess with it.. but when it comes down to it..every eye is a different eye once turned.... I don't really understand it either..but its the translation of my preferances..

I was wondering.. can anyone tell me what they think looks best?
