Bnsf 6643 leads 25 citi rail gevo's west down the Hannibal Sub. This one was the D-ALNSTL seen here near Clarksville Mo.
BNSF 6643 heads down the BNSF Hannibal Sub. just north of Elsberry, MO. with 25 CitiRail Gevo's in tow. Running in a 1x2 formation to haul the units at this point of the journey under the symbol D-ALNSTL3 05T. This is 1 of 4 planned moves to relocate the units from Alliance, NE to St. Louis, MO. The units are headed for the Prairie Lines yard for storage in St. Louis, MO., I'm guessing that Citi got tired of paying BNSF for storage.
CitiRail units in this move: 1333, 1410, 1212, 1350, 1429, 1303, 1332, 1434, 1412, 1347, 1318, 1435, 1213, 1208, 1325, 1338, 1210, 1310, 1345, 1415, 1411, 1314, 1419, 1316, & 1201.
Kind of went to this spot to catch larger Intermodal trains to get the gradient profile telesmashed up, since there was a derailment a day prior in Arizona had made westbound and eastbound trains very limited, plus the Union Pacific wasn't tossing anything out either. So all I got for my trouble was nine motors two of them are not like the others however, but if it isn't leading who cares.
One of the o-so-common at the time CSX SD50's , rolls along on the back of a power move at Broadford, just west of Connellsville, PA.
A Canadian Goose takes in the scene at the Susquehanna River as two of his North Of The Border cousins wait on traffic.
And it isn't even a funeral train.
BNSF 6901 drags eleven Heritage Two C44-9Ws through Basta as the longish wait Operation Lifesaver move got closer and closer to being over, granted the shadows were getting longer and longer also (hence the position change).

BNSF has a habit of putting its power moves to/from the Topeka Shops on a track just west of the shops, and its always like a game of Roulette to find out what'll be on the south (RR-west) end of it. 95% of the time, it's some variety of orange GE, but every once in a while, there's something worth photographing!
Such was the case this afternoon, when BNSF SD60M no. 1434 was spotted on the west end of the cut, which was absolutely worth snapping a photo of! This 34 year-old veteran was built as the BN 9257, and traded its Cascade Green for orange at some point between 2017 and 2019. Most recently, it had been working yard jobs in Illinois as of 2023.
A reposition move of 12 GE's from Dallas to BNSF's power-short hub of Laurel, Montana rolls through Palmer Lake on its northward journey.

28 units en route from Donkey Creek, Wyoming to Barstow, California roll through Tomah as they make their way down the Joint Line.
The D-GUETOP1 26 leads a large power move of GE C44-9W’s towards Topeka at Lakeview, KS, a small community just northwest of Lawrence. This train originated in Guernsey, WY.
The consist was as follows, with the actual power in a 2x1 formation:
BNSF 5130 7445 677 1074 639 4345 1036 5122 686 1085 1023 1109 987 653 990 4739 982 1042 1024 4415 640 4418 4352 5435 976 1080 4374 7420

Passes south through town on it's way to Hamlet, NC. It would return the next day leading F742 north through town...
While awaiting for UP 1989 (which I didn't see) on a snowy day, a very fast powermove flew past my camera at CP C807 in Layton, UT. This is on the UP's Salt Lake Subdivision which runs between Ogden, Utah and CP C793 in Salt Lake City, UT.
A power move with Dash9's from storage is headed to Topeka KS where the units will be put back in service, back in 2020.
A whole bunch of C44-9W's have been leaving Topeka recently, including a number of the 700/4700-class Warbonnets. Here's the tail end of one of these power moves, heading east out of Topeka on a bitterly cold February morning. Shown here are the BNSF 789, 994, and 1016, and there were quite a few more on the head end.
A power move of 22 units lead by BNSF 6819 cruises though Holbrook mid-morning. The reposition move was going from Barstow, CA to Harve, MT to continue in revenue service. Of note in the train would be new BNSF 3702, BNSF 980 (H1), and CN 2894 as a DPU on the rear.
BNSF 6819, 8011, 4644, 6537, 8099, 4343, 3280, 6520, 6549, 7266, 7922, 7900, 7468, 5122, 9102, 3702, 6876, 980, 5154, 5500, 5729, CN 2894.
BNSF 5156 heads south on the BNSF Hannibal Sub. (track mark west) with the final CitiRail power move, the D-ALNSTL3 27T, here at Mp. 28 at Machens, MO. The units are headed for the Prairie Lines yard for storage in St. Louis, MO. near the Anheuser Busch brewery.
BNSF 8136 works DPU duties on the D-ALNSTL3 27T for the final CitiRail move here at Machens, MO. along the BNSF Hannibal Subdivision. The units are headed for the Prairie Lines yard for storage in St. Louis, MO. near the Anheuser Busch brewery. The smoke stack in the distance belongs to the the Ameren power station in Portage Des Sioux.
On a war Wednesday evening, BNSF's Tulsa-Kansas City manifest (H-TULKCK) rolled into the Kansas City area with a MASSIVE consist, although most of the 20 units were running DIT.
These units had been in storage in Galveston, TX, and have been sold to a number of outlets. I was expecting the train to roll down the Olathe connection track towards the Emporia Sub, but imagine my surprise when I saw it continuing north on the Ft. Scott... Words were had. After I got skunked there, I caught up with it again in Merriam, and again at the Bridge to Nowhere in KC.

This afternoon, I shot this light power move in Topeka pulling onto the BNSF Topeka Sub main from the Shops. Although it was running (railroad) west at the time, the train would soon head east to Kansas City, as the D TOPKCK3 06M.
That had been doing some switching at an industry in Jamestown just around the curve. It was finished and was headed back to the Pomona Yard in Greensboro...
This is a Fayetteville local I've been trying to get for a while now. I finally got it on video recently and have been trying to get some still shots. This power move is the best I've gotten so far...
Was to document some short line railroads. So far it hasn't been easy. I saw Aberdeen and Rockfish AR 205 in the yard so I figured he would be coming back shoving the cars in front of him. Well he did come back... but without his train as a power move. Even in some terrible light I still took the shot because I never know when or if the next one will come?
BNSF 9233 leads this NS 963 power move north through Granite City, Illinois as it heads for Decatur, Illinois. The power ended up holding just north of here for a few hours before a road crew arrived to take the power to Decatur.
Engines in consist were pretty eclectic:
BNSF 9233, NS 2674, NS 7571, NS 2701, NS 7661, NS 9844, NS 2579, & NS 9533.
On March 15th, I shot the BNSF 4348 leading a westbound light power move out of Topeka underneath the ATSF-era cantilever signal. This was the D TOPEMP3 14M, and had 11 units, if I remember correctly.
CP 384, Fall River.
Big mixed bag of power here, with two SOO Geeps, CSX and KCS GEs, and a NS EMD. CP decided to throw some freight on the rear of this powermove, too.

This Hill 582 is not a military designation on an army map, but rather a popular train watching location on Cajon Pass in Southern California. This spot is at mile 58.2 on BNSF's Cajon Subdivision, hence the "582."
The site was once a barren hilltop, like others in the area, but in 1992, Don E. Toles and his associates decided to spruce up the place with a rock garden and trees. In 1994, several eucalyptus trees were planted and are now over 20 feet tall. Many species of cacti were also planted. Some of these plants had been damaged in construction projects or vandalism, were rescued and replanted on the hill. Additionally, the site later became a memorial to area railfans, such as Chard Walker and Dave Burton, who had passed away.
Today, the hill is still a popular gathering spot for train watchers and photographers on weekends. They arrive with their RV's, cameras, lawn chairs and picnic supplies. Two or three times a week Don Toles and some of his friends show up to water the plants and groom the grounds for another onslaught of visitors.

Northeast Kansas received a fairly decent snowfall on 12/15/2019, but the railroad trudges onward (I, however, managed to get a snow day out of the deal for Monday!).
Regardless, just after Amtrak rolled through, a westbound light power move (D TOPEMP3 14M) took off from Topeka towards Emporia behind the BNSF 6376. The Santa Fe GP50 second out is the 3174.
Out of a power move. A westbound power move getting ready to enter the Big Four tunnel. I almost didn't photograph it but changed my mind at the last minute when I thought about this...
BNSF 7248 leads this 12 unit power move (D-CHIKCK1 23) as it heads west out of Galesburg, Illinois on the BNSF Chillicothe Sub.
Units in the consist:

BNSF ES44C4 #3250 leads a 25 engine powermove from Barstow, California to the Donkey Creek BNSF yard in Gillette, Wyoming heading northbound through Palmer lake, Colorado.
An SD70ACe brings up the rear of a power move that is making it's way eastbound though Cameron, Illinois on a sunny February afternoon. I can't remember exactly how many locomotives were in this train, but there was well over 20. Mostly SD75M's and SD70MAC's headed for Glendive, Montana for mothballs.
EMD SD60i #6735 leads a power move across the Rockville Bridge at CP MARY as the sun dips below the horizon. Hiding in the consist is NS 911.
Most of the power moves that leave Topeka are in that 8-10 unit neighborhood, but not this one! On April 3, 2021, I shot this one leaving for Emporia with just five units; the BNSF 6765, 5295, 1584, 1941, and 1836.

I was expecting the train to roll down the Olathe connection track towards the Emporia Sub, but imagine my surprise when I saw it continuing north on the Ft. Scott... Words were had. After I got skunked there, I caught up with it again in Merriam, and at least managed something that was passable.

With a total of 7 units, including a few EMD variants, this eastbound autorack train pulls up to a classic stone mile-marker at the east end of Buffalo, New York's Frontier Yard.
11/27/2020 - CSX #2756 leads a powermove, CSX Y103, after dropping a car at a local facility. This sucker was hard to keep track of but I managed to find it luckily, after finding the correct facility they were at.
