Wang Zhi, Assistant Production Manager of Jiamusi Zhongheng Thermoelectric Ltd. The power plant was put into operation in 1999, when it had only two steam turbines with an annual generating capacity 300 million degrees and could provide 1.75 million GJ annually for Dalkia with an annual coal consumption of 350,000 tons.

During the late 1970's I was fortunate to visit the Kingston Power Station in Down Hall Road Kingston-Upon-Thames. This fine power station was due to be demolished and was closed in October 1980. It was opened in 1948 by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
The pictures show the interior, control desk, the coal conveyor, one of the chimneys and Kingston coat of arms on the lead rainwater down pipes. [A great deal of thought and care went into the construction of this fine building.] A rooftop view of Kingston with Bentalls store can be seen in the picture.

Bucket-wheel excavator, Tagebau Garzweiler, Garzweiler open pit mine, Germany
The Tagebau Garzweiler is an open pit lignite mine with a size of 110km² (27200 acres). The lignite is burned in power plants which generate about a quarter of the electricity used in germany.
Bucket-wheel excavators are used for continuous overburden removal in surface mining. The overburden is then delivered to the discharge boom, which transfers the cut earth to another machine for transfer to the central collection area where the material will be sorted. Then the remains of the overburden will be transported on a belt system to the spreader which then scatters the overburden at the dumping ground.

Wind Turbines are dotting the mountains across the country. An alternative to coal fired electricity generation wind farms are not without their detractors. An interesting debate.

A modern wind turbine towers above at the American Windmill Museum in Lubbock, Texas, captured in silhouette against a cloudless sky. The midday sun is perfectly aligned behind the turbine’s nacelle, forming a sharp sunstar and radiating beams of light across the deep blue backdrop. This minimalist composition highlights the engineering grace of renewable energy in the Texas High Plains—a place where past and future meet through wind power innovation.

This is the Yorktown Power Station, located off Waterview Road in Yorktown, VA. The Yorktown Power Station is owned and operated by Dominion Virginia Power.
In recent years, there has been talk about shutting down this power station due to the amount of cost it would take to retrofit this station to comply with modern standards. The station may be closed 2015 due to new environmental policies; however, Dominion Virginia Power has asked for an extension to keep the station running until at least 2016. What a fine period illustration - the power house, gently smoking away whilst ablaze with light against the gathering darkness! Sadly no artist is given on this fine evocation of a power station scene. The booklet was issued by General Electric of America in April 1925, one of a series of fine commercial publications issued by GE.

The Bureau of Reclamation will host a community celebration event on Saturday, September 27 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of power generation at Glen Canyon Dam. The public is invited to attend the event being held at the dam.
The atrium of Intermountain Power's administration building features a large greenhouse garden of exotic plants. It is a strange anachronism in the brutal industrialism of and barren desert outside. This will all be gone once the plant switches over to natural gas and the coal facilities demolished.
