I have a pair of JBL 6208 powered monitors that I've had for ages. Lately the right channel has been cutting out. The little spade-thingee in the input jack had lost some of its spring and wasn't consistently making contact with the input plug. I pulled out the amp module and removed the input module. Then I used a mechanical screwdriver to bend the spade inwards a little so it would make contact better. Seems fine now.
A couple of things about seeing the guts of this amp pop up. The first is that those capacitors are probably the entire reason these seem to handle transients as well as they do.
The second is surprise at the Mexican transformer. I've been to Tecate. In fact, I had dinner there with DC Comics cartoonist Rick Keene a couple of years back during ComiCon. It's a great little town, but I wasn't aware of any real industry there. Apparently they make (or made) transformers there.
