Crossing the Blue Ridge Parkway midway between Roanoke Mountain and Mill Mountain in the Roanoke, VA area.

I decided not to state the obvious. But for those of you who think you might be seeing things there are also two red barns and a red shed. I just found this in my photos and can’t believe it has been three years since I took this photo. I remember this November day like it was yesterday. These barns were quite far off the road and blocked by berms in most places. Also there were usually crops, like corn, blocking their view. There was no place to stop on this 55 mph county road. However, and here is the lucky part, there was a club across the road and the gate was open so I drove in and took some pictures.

On the Western tundra of Alaska, nothing is underwhelming

Always the hope that lightning will strike in the power lines, which could result in an incredible lightning photograph, but the storm was already to far away.

But this bolt is also a nice souvernir of a thundery evening.
