So what we have here are partners in crime - my goose neck kettle and the lip of my pour over coffee maker.

 

I've actually turned into a coffee geek over the last couple of years. I favour my Aeropress because it's the quickest and cleanest method but also genuinely the best coffee. But it doesn't make for even an average photographic subject (ok from underneath with the coffee dripping but how many times has that been done by the pros?!!)

Basking in the gentle morning glow filtering through the windows of the Santorini apartment, the kitchen comes alive with the comforting symphony of sizzling pasta and freshly brewed coffee, wrapping the room in a cocoon of delicious anticipation. A playful puppy, nestled snugly in a nearby chair, gazes up with wide, hopeful eyes, silently pleading to partake in the culinary delights about to unfold. With each aroma and sound, the kitchen becomes a stage for a whimsical morning ritual, where the simple act of preparing a meal transforms into a joyful celebration of life's little pleasures.

Found this Bodum pour over today for less than the price of a coffee. Happy with that. Makes a decent smooth brew, too. The cafetiere will get a rest for a while.

Drink immediately if you have a cold kitchen like mine.The Habitat cup only comes out for this season.

That is the coffee bar windows, back at the drip, love the reflection with the pots ready for cup size serve. Too many lines and angles in this getting one set straight the others run up hill, next time will make the capture.

While doing a little photography work for the newly opened KaHaWa (Coffee and Bookstore) I am taking a second to enjoy a delicious pour-over of their very own roast... and of course taking a shot for my 365. I think this is the best variable temp pour over kettle on the market today. Excellent pour spout and lightning quick. Only issue is it usually overshoots its temperature a bit.

This cozy pourover coffee set features mesh animated dripping coffee, and dispenses a holdable hazelnut coffee in an onyx glass mug with custom animations.

All in a day's work...

I was not feeling creative tonight so I decided to seek inspiration in a new technique for me: photographing water droplets. This is a pretty simple first step, just aiming to try out the simplest setup and get some of the basic techniques down, but I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

 

To shoot this I set up my Melita pourover coffee setup above a bowl of water with white foam core as a background, aimed my flash at the foam core on 1/32 power and just fired away. I put some dark food coloring in the water to give it a bit more contrast and then converted to black and white in post.

 

I am definitely trying this again soon.

Mornings need to get off to a good start. It's an old-school pour-over kind of morning.

We love coffee around this place, especially extra-strong pourovers. With company visiting, the pourover duties were quite substantial this morning, but we don't mind. Everyone was happy with the constant flow.

While awaiting a pourover at Starbucks, I laid my camera on the counter and fired away. I asked the staff if they minded, and they said no. But, I felt guilty, as I had no cash on me for a tip, and we are certainly moving towards a cashless society. Wish me luck, as I will be begging the wife for some pocket money when I get home.
