Sometimes I see potential in a photo for these effects. Sometimes I just go willy nilly and see what happens. Sometimes I just put the photo in the trash and start over.

Mount Rainier is a massive stratovolcano located 54 miles southeast of Seattle, United States. It is the most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and the Cascade Volcanic Arc, with a summit elevation of 14,411 feet Mt. Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, and it is on the Decade Volcano list. Because of its large amount of glacial ice, Mt. Rainier could potentially produce massive lahars that would threaten the whole Puyallup River valley.

When I was on the way to Tegel Airport I happened upon a few trees in blossom, everyone else is taking captures of these and so here's mine. I absolutely love Spring and the weather this day was really nice, looking forward to more. All shots against a blue sky look so much better in my opinion than clouds.

Hope everyone is well, and so as always, thank you! :)

Alishan Forest Railway is an 86 km network of 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge railways running up to and throughout the popular mountain resort of Alishan in Chiayi County, Taiwan. The railway, originally constructed for logging, has become a tourist attraction with its unique Z-shaped switchbacks, and over 50 tunnels and 77 wooden bridges. Taiwan's Ministry of Culture has listed the forest railway as a potential World Heritage Site.

This was how the sky looked about 10 minutes or so before sunset time along Middle River. At this time my dad who came out to see how things would unfold this evening were talking about the potential for colors this evening based on the cloud deck and the clearing in the sky farther to the west.

The winds were calm as well, creating a nice reflective surface. I like to call this time the 'potential energy' of the sunset colors was very HIGH at this moment ... all the elements were there as long as there were not farther off clouds below the horizon in the west that we could not see. Considering the skies were not forecasted to be clear until closer to the following morning ... you could not be 100 positive that the sun would be blocked cutting off the light as things progressed.

Alas, the potential energy was all released over the following 30 minutes.

One of the later captures is below in the comments.

While this one gave me a fuss the other adult quickly wandered farther into the marsh along with its chicks.

They limit growth, both mind and soul,

On a visit to Las Vegas, I took night shots without ever thinking of stitching them into a panoramic shot. Recently, while looking through archival shots, I saw the potential to blend three shots into a single panorama, and artificial intelligence did the rest. Three uninteresting shots rescued to make a half decent nighttime panorama.

Mýrdalsjökull 20210717

Mýrdalsjökull is a glacier in the south of the Icelandic highlands. It is the country's fourth-largest ice cap, covering nearly 600 square kilometers, and its highest peak is almost 1500 meters tall. It is most well-known for sitting atop the notorious and explosive volcano, Katla.

Since 2010, the world has known of the volcano beneath Eyjafjallajökull; after all, it halted European air travel for over a week and stumped news readers everywhere. Few, however, are aware of the much larger volcano right beside it.

Mýrdalsjökull conceals Katla, one of the country’s most active volcanoes, having erupted, on average, once every fifty years since 930 AD. Because of the glacier above it, these eruptions tend to cause enormous ash clouds. It is these ash clouds that lead to flights being grounded, crops and livestock poisoned, and have the potential to change the world’s climate.

What is canola?

The oilseed packed with healthy oil, protein and potential

In a few decades, canola has become one of the world’s most important oilseeds and one of Canada’s leading crops. Today canola is a true “made-in-Canada” success story and the foundation of a thriving, sustainable industry.

The canola plant

One of the most widely grown crops in Canada, canola plants produce beautiful small yellow flowers which develop into pods, resembling pea pods. Each pod contains tiny black seeds, made up of about 45% oil. Once harvested, canola seeds are crushed to release the oil contained within the seed.

Canola grown in Canada belongs to the Brassica napus B. rapa or B. juncea species which belong to a much larger mustard family (Brassicaceae). Cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower are also part of this same botanical family.

The history of canola seed in Canada

Historical records indicate that rapeseed was cultivated as early as 2000 B.C.E. in India and introduced into China and Japan around 35 B.C.E. Documented use or that of a close relative appears in the earliest writings of European and Asian civilizations. Rapeseed plants prefer to grow in relatively low temperatures, with less heat required for successful reproduction than other oilseed crops. Therefore, rapeseed was one of the very few oil sources that could be successfully grown in temperate climates. This led to rapeseed being grown in Europe as early as the 13th century. In later centuries, rapeseed was used for both cooking and lighting, as its oil produced a smokeless white flame. Rapeseed had a rather limited industrial acceptance until the development of steam power, when it was discovered that rapeseed oil would bind to water and steam washed metal surfaces better than any other lubricant. It was this special property that led to the introduction of rapeseed into Canada.

The need for Canadian rapeseed production arose from the critical shortage of rapeseed oil that was needed by Allied forces during World War II and were supplied by Canada to break the blockade of European and Asian sources in the early 1940s. The oil was urgently needed as a lubricant for the rapidly increasing number of marine engines in naval and merchant ships.

How on earth we manged to spend nearly three hours here and it seem like half an hour is beyond me.

It's one of those places though, a beautifully quiet and peaceful location, the sound of the water running down over all the rocks and rather picturesque bridge with views across to Derwernt Water and Keswick. All in all a wonderful morning but strange flat lighting so nothing ground breaking photography wise (disappointing after the wonderful light we left at Castlerigg earlier in the day) this is potentially the best I had of a bunch of attempts! Added some shadow and other bits myself to at least try and make it look a little more dynamic, hopefully not over done too much.
