Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is coming to theatres in May this year and I cannot be more excited. I absolutely adore the PotC movies as they always have intruiging stories and manage to execute the the pirate theme so well. Plus, Orlando Bloom may or may not just be one of my biggest celebrity crushes. [read more...]

OK Drury, you win. I've succumbed to the plague and made a batch of bug villains.

"You will listen to me! LISTEN! The other ships will still be looking to us, to the Black Pearl, to lead, and what will they see? Frightened bilge rats aboard a derelict ship? No, no they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see, they will see the flash of our cannons, and they will hear the ringing of our swords, and they will know what we can do! By the sweat of our brow and the strength of our backs and the courage in our hearts! Gentlemen, hoist the colours!"
Yes, I decided to make a tribute to PotC again, cause I'm in the mood. xD This is a tribute to Elizabeth Swann, she's my childhood hero, so badass! :) Her speech is one of my favorite scenes in the movie, and the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer was EPIC. All hail the Pirate King!
You can watch the scene and listen to the music here:

Hey everyone! I have a build here to show you today, surprisingly :P I recently rewatched all the PotC films and was inspired by Brickophilia’s build of the pipe organ, so here we are. I decided to focus only on the small part, as it would be able to fit into most Lego pirate ships one way or another. I hope you enjoy :)
Just an idea for a random bounty hunter I had
Rebel helmet, PotC zombie head, satchels, Weazel torso, Old Republic Sith Trooper hips, Han Solo legs
Purist Star Wars minifigures
I recently re-watched the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, I had forgotten how good they are! While watching Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End again I hadn't before really noticed the line "Gentlemen, I wash my hands with this weirdness." from this scene: youtu.be/VlVyqJFPEuk
I thought this line was just too good to not make a photo of it! :D
I hope you like it!

There comes a time when you have to turn your back on the past, and all the hurts that came with it, and just say, "Show me that horizon!" Here's to the future.
Listening to: PoTC Soundtrack
Well, let's talk about something more happy this time. :) This is my tribute to amazing YouTube violinist Taylor Davis, she's so cool, you really should check out her channel, especially now, when she's finally back with her own original music after a few years hiatus.
Her cover of my favorite composer Hans Zimmer's "He's a Pirate" from Pirates of the Caribbean was the first cover I ever watched on YouTube back in 2015, which introduced me first to her, and then to the world of many talented YouTube musicians, for most of whom I already did tributes over those years - Malinda, Elise and Eden Ecklund, Beth Crowley, Anna (annapantsu), Elsie Lovelock, as well as Peter and Evynne Hollens, Whitney Avalon, Reinaeiry, and the list goes on. :) So I think it's time to finally go back to where it all started - to that rocky and windy beach, where a pirate played her music...
This is the same spot where I took my other "beach" pictures (the only such spot in metropolis that I know), but at that time I was looking for a big rock. And I found a rock close enough to the shore, but it was in a water, so to take this picture I had to stood in a not very stable position with one foot on the shore and one on the rock. xD I was afraid that the wind will blow away my mini Taylor or her pirate bandana, or that I fall into water, but everything turned out well, and it was really fun! :)

I *finally* got around to watching the last two POTC films, and I quite enjoyed them!
Now. you're going to have to excuse the fact that I'm still wearing a t-shirt and jumper in this, I'm far too hungover to be meticulously putting clothes in place, and the hair took FAR too long.
{edit] - We made explore! Number 2 with a bullet, baby!
Second fast entry for the POTC-Contest on the German LUG www.RogueBricks.de
This time a small scene from the part 'On Stranger Tides'.
Nothing special here, I just wanted to build something with the slopes for upcoming MOCs.
My latest build for the MA, a micro of the Mealstrom Battle from PotC. Before you wonder why it isn't better, I'll tell you: this category (No Repeats) forbids the repetition of a single element (no two from the same mold) in the entire MOC! It is much more difficult then it might appear, specially considering my choice of source material! I want to redo this scene with no restrictions one day... And don't worry, lighting shots of Davy's Organ are coming some time, but I'm very backlogged on uploading here...

Ah, your probably starting to get used to this judges; wait for me to upload more on MP before you think I went crazy ;) . Judge there too, though you can comment your decision here if you like.
All: please flick through all the photos as the details are hard to see. Plus I will gradually upload more of this MOC (my version of PotC's Port Royal) over the next week or so, for it's my largest build yet. Enjoy!
Here is one of the three ships I recently built for the War Contest (last month). My original plan was to do the Maelstrom Battle, but instead I did the sinking of the Endeavour (www.flickr.com/photos/josdu/29402019754/in/dateposted-pub...). Indeed, I would have liked to afterwards have done the Mealstrom as well, but I was tired of photography, and doing stormy water would not have been easy... etc. I'm nevertheless rather sad that I built both the Dutchman and the Pearl without doing that iconic battle, but oh well. Of the three MOCs (the Flying Dutchman, the Sinking Endeavour, and the Black Pearl), I believe this is my favorite. I like the colours I chose, the size (it's about 100 studs long), and I also liked that it was the easiest to photograph :P . Of course, I tried to get this as accurate as I could, and I think I did fairly well. Wish I had Davy Jones. Btw, the water flowing from the scuppers can be taken away and replaced with cannons, as in some of the pictures. I hope you enjoy seeing it in all it's glory (or as much glory as it will ever get, for I can't bring it anywhere.. and it's in pieces :P ). The other two ships will be uploaded after a little while.
P.S.
Of course, this has no interior, but feel free to check out Davy's cabin which I built separately a while back (www.flickr.com/photos/josdu/26326229835/).
Pirate Harbour - I wanted to make a MOC with the Figbarfs, I made for the PotC Competition at Roguebricks. It should have been a small one, it turned out a little big bigger :) Hope you guys like it.
I'm here to rid the island of the growing population of Mogwai and Gremlins for her. I'm not going to be nice to them either. I'm a Pirate, dammit, we're mean!
My second Entry to the PotC-Contest on www.roguebricks.de, Whitecap Bay.
The Tower is a rebuild of the one in the original LEGO-Set, but I've been changing a lot of parts to make it look a bit more fragile. Okay, to be honest, I've been running out of dark tan bricks so I was unable to build a bigger one:-)
I hope you like it nontheless.
Got the new POTC cannibal escape set and thought the cannibals' heads were great for a voodoo witch doctor.
Here it is! My biggest build yet, based off PotC's Port Royal. It was built in ten days for the tourney and wouldn't even all fit on my desk: but my desk is tiny... :P . Check back in my photostream for all the interiors which I previously uploaded: namely a blacksmith shop, an inn, a prison, and a courtyard. Enjoy!

Uh, here's a few more POTC Figs.
Cotton and Marty: Had to round out the rest of the Black Pearl crew. Does Marty have a single line of dialogue in the entire series? I honestly can't remember.
Tai Huang and Sao Feng: Their skin's kinda too dark, but it's what I had available and it kinda works for me.
Tia Dalma: Not the head I wanted for her, but when I found the head I wanted I couldn't find a torso that worked either, so this'll do.
Cutler Beckett: The Lego Game made him short so I also made him short.
Clanker, Penrod and Koleniko: Members of Davy Jones's crew.
Probably do one more Pirates post after this. Until then, lemme know what you think!
Though I guess they were all Bounty Hunters at one point or another.
Kyle Katarn: Poor Kyle, booted from continuity by The Mouse. PoTC head, Rebel Trooper torso, CMF Sheriff legs.
Cad Bane: I have a love/hate relationship with this character. Regardless the official fig never sat right with me, so I sought to rectify that. CMF Sheriff hat, Rebel trooper head, Cad Bane torso, Electro legs, Brickforge vambraces, Trenchcoat.
Mara Jade Skywalker: Probably an even heavier loss from continuity as put forth by The Mouse. Lois Lane hair, Standard female head, Mime torso.
4-LOM and Zuckuss. I've actually had these guys around since like, two Octobers ago, but now that there's rumors of official ones being released I figured I might as well get mine out there. 4-LOM is just RA-7 from the Yoda chronicles with a gun. Zuckuss has old Nein Nunb head, and an LoTR torso.
It's also just occurred to me that I have two of those Cad Bane breathing apparatus things. Weird.
Anyways, let me know what you think!
I always planned on making the Wasp after Ant-Man. Had to wait a while but finally finished her up.
The helmet is from a knock off Wasp figure. It was the same mold as the Ant-Man helmet, however the lenses were trans yellow instead of trans red. I bought one of these, and cut out the plastic in between the eyes (suggested by Timcan2904 ) to have a more accurate lens shape. I also sculpted over the mouth.
The face was Karina from POTC 5, and I added the cheekbones to get a better likeness to Evangeline Lilly.
The torso was sanded into curves, the breaths were sculpted with fabric pressed on for texture, whereas the strip down the torso is fabric.
The wings are cut out from ParaDemon wings plastic. Idea from Brickophilia
That’s about it. Love this fig so much along with Ant Man.
Just a reminder of the Brickcentral photographic contest of this month which is all around kiosks (or carts).

Another Indy post for y'all because it's the weekend. Hopefully you don't get too sick of these posts :P
Anyways, I was gonna save this for a later date, but I wanted to make the figs now. And since I don't have enough Temple of Doom figs, I had to construct some temporary purist solutions.
L-R:
Shorty: CMF baseball player cap, Gray head, PotC torso. Oddly enough, I like him better than the official.
Willie: Official Willie hair, torso, and hips, Queenie head, Disco Batman cape, Supergirl legs. Had to use a gold tiara as I don't have the original trans-red one
Indy: Han Solo hair (How ironic), Dastan head, official Nightclub Indy torso, CMF baker girl arms and legs. The pistol is from Lone Ranger
Mola Ram: Ninjago helmet w/ hands attached, Apache Chief head, CMF evil wizard cloths, Cairo swordsman torso, Apocalybseburg Abe legs, PotC heart. He's a good purist solution til I replace him with the official
Lemme know what you think :)
One set that I've always wanted for some reason, and will probably never actually get (cause the price is absolutely bonkers) is the old Cloud City set. So I decided to make the figs myself. I don't have a ton of Star Wars fig parts lying around at the moment, so I made due.
Princess Leia: CMF Bride hair, Prince of Persia head, Lone Ranger torso, CMF Female Samurai hips (?)
Stormtrooper is a Stormtrooper.
Gave Vader shoulder-pads and Lord Vampyre's legs.
Luke Skywalker: Samwise head, Hoth Rebel torso, Catman belt, CMF Hiker legs.
Han Solo: Not sure who's head this is, PoTC torso, CMF Sheriff legs.
Boba Fett: Old Boba helmet, new Boba torso, Boba cape, Taurial hips, CMF Space Miner legs. Gauntlets are just handcuffs but painted red.
Lando Calrissian: Lando head, Eclipsegrafx cape, Mighty Micros Thanos torso.
Let me know what you think!
This guy's not having a good Tuesday. Although he's in Walt Disney World, so already it's better for him than most of us! Pirates of the Caribbean is a notoriously difficult ride to photography. The combination of darkness and very strongly colored show lighting makes it very challenging. But, armed with a good camera and a fast lens and it's doable! Have you ever taken any photos that you liked on PotC?
The buildings take inspiration from 18th century Havana from Assasins Creed Black Flag. I plan to use them as part of a large port layout for future episodes of the stop-motion series Being Pirates. Check it out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe70UNCPkDg
An entry for the Jolly Roger Competition over at www.forbiddencove.com
EDIT: This creation was "Highly Commended".
I just love this last scene in PotC. I was pretty happy with how this came out. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend.
Just some minor updates here and there.
Jean Paul Valley: Made him an accurate head from a Red Hood head and removed his armor.
Michael Lane: Gave him a PoTC Cannibal head with the mouth painted over and a new torso.
AzBat: I think this one's still the same.
Pretty minor stuff, but I really dig how they turned out. Let me know what you think!
Recently re-assembled a large swath of my POTC figs (basically all of them that weren't from the Fourth one) and in doing so realized that man, this line got shafted really bad.
There wasn't even sets for At World's End, and only one for Curse of The Black Pearl. Instead the market was flooded with uninteresting sets from the worst entry in the franchise. At least the fifth film got a set that was almost worth a damn (I got all those figs second-hand and didn't rebuild them either)
Anyways, the point is there should have been more POTC sets from the first three films, and by that extension, many more characters.
These are the two (three if you count the dog) most egregious exclusions I could think of.
Lemme know what you think, eh?
Wasn't gonna post this but I figured what the hell, it was a decent sendoff.
Here's all my POTC Figs, both official and custom, from the first three films. I didn't and will not rebuild everyone from Four and Five because I don't want to, and those parts are better used other places.
As it is I feel like I've rounded out the roster nicely. There are still a few omissions, but nobody I'll probably end up getting to ultimately.
That's all for now. Now, bring me that horizon.
