This is all that's left of the house that once stood on this mountainside. I don't know what happened to the house, but considering where I was, it probably just fell off the edge.

 

This is a good half-mile UP the mountain from where we had to abandon our Jeep and walk the rest of the way.

Umbekannte steckten am frühen Donnerstagmorgen Kleinlastwagen der Deutschen Post in Brand. 7 Wagen brannten völlig aus. Das anliegende Gebäude, welches Denkmalgeschützt ist, erlitt ebenfalls einen erheblichen Schaden. .

Port Arthur Post Office by djhsilver

Built some time in the 1930s, this building replaced Port Arthur's old post. The design is Art Moderne, a more scarcely decorated version of Art Deco that bridged the gap between classical and modern architectural styles. The facade is likely Tyndall stone (lots of fossils), the base is granite.

The VR inscription on this post box denotes that it was manufactured during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 - 1901).

There is a small metal plaque at the top stating that it was installed at nearby Sarratt Vale in 1907 before being relocated here.

 

So it may have been somewhere else first, but quite likely that it was held by the GPO for a few years before being installed.

This old house, apparently undergoing a makeover, sits near the former Amherst Milling Company. Running in front of it was the concrete millrace that channeled water to the mill's water wheel.

(ffm) Die Arbeiten zum Wiederaufbau des Chinesischen Pavillons haben begonnen. Kunsthandwerker aus China werden ihn in den kommenden Monaten originalgetreu wiederherstellen.

Rosemarie Heilig, Dezernentin für Umwelt und Frauen, wird begrüßen. Anschließend berichtet Bernd Roser, Abteilungsleiter beim Grünflächenamt, über den geplanten Bauablauf. Der Architekt Martin Beilmann vom Bochumer Büro Beilmann Architekten gibt Auskunft über die Architektur des Pavillons sowie die chinesische Handwerkskunst. Die beiden Manager, die Kunsthandwerker Chen Yang und Huishen Shen, werden ihr Team vorstellen.
