Around us there's just a bunch of corpses that claim to manage their own exhumation and haunt us with brand new mendacities to make us participate in their evil ceremony
Old Amoco Station Lacon Illinois. Alas, no longer do we hear the familiar and reassuring “Ding!” as we roll over the black rubber bell tubing. No longer does the pump jockey come out of the building to wipe your windshield and to check your oil with the rag in his back pocket. There is an air gauge in his shirt pocket. No longer do you hear the standard oft repeated question, “regular or ethyl?” Where did it all go? There is an old swivel chair in front of the station desk that looks like it came down from Jacob and Esau. Oh yes, the sign states that they have clean restrooms. Free maps? What are those for. Who would need that?
No longer does the signage read twenty nine-nine. The leathery unfit to eat Slim Jim sausages are gone too along with the ten cent Cokes. What is your favorite memory?

Olpadan - Meaning sharp shooter in the Maa language. We first came across Olpadan also known as Dartagnan in 2017 when he was the leader of the famous Cheetah coalition called the Tana Bora or Fast Five. At that time he was wearing a research collar which was removed the following year. We have had the privilege to photograph Olpadan many times during our trips to the Masai Mara and little did we know that when this photograph was taken in November 2021 it would be our last. Early in 2021 Olpadan left the group and the coalition were renamed the Nne Bora. Olpadan eventually teamed up with a younger male but unfortunately, that did not last and he was on his own once again. He did try to get back with his former coalition but was not accepted. Later his former group members attacked him and he suffered an injury to his eye. Olpadan was treated by the vets and appeared to be doing well. Sadly, one morning in January this year he was found dead on the Mara plains. It is thought that he was killed by his former coalition members.
I had read somewhere on the Big Cats Facebook pages that "The Cheetah Project Mara Meru" were going to do a postmortem but I have not yet seen any results or if indeed that did happen.

Postmodern Postmortem Postmountain.
We have changed and become something else, forgetting our true selves completely. We will die and we will become mountains, heavy observers realizing how impatient we once were in our human bodies. And, when we finally gain enough insight, we will vanish like the ethereal fog sweeping over the mountain tops. Perhaps, we will leave the world differently than we entered it. Or, we will be part of someone else's photograph.

Auf dem Foto wirkt das Skelett ein wenig wie eine Versteinerung.
The commissioner of the Metropolitan police went on the offensive today, defending his officers for an "astonishing" police operation during the G20 that he said had received international praise.
Sir Paul Stephenson said his comments were made in the context of a man having died during the demonstration, and of footage that was deeply concerning. But he went out of his way to praise what he said were an overwhelming majority of officers who carried out a professional job on the day.
Picking out the territorial support group (TSG) – which is at the centre of two IPCC investigations into Ian Tomlinson's death and an assault on a woman protester – Stephenson said it was a specialist unit the Met relied on.
"These and others are our first line response to some of the most difficult and challenging situations," he said.
The commissioner, who has spoken personally to TSG officers in a bid to raise their morale, said all knew they were individually accountable for their actions.
He said officers who were found to have deliberately hidden their numbers would be severely disciplined. "If someone is trying to deliberately avoid being identified and their reason is so they can behave inappropriately, criminally, then of course they could face the sack," Stephenson said.
He planned to tackle the problem of police identification by examining whether every officer should wear name tags.
The commissioner said there were supervision problems with some groups of officers and he wanted this improved. "The overwhelming majority did [wear their numbers]. There is not sufficient concentration on intrusive supervision.
"That is what I believe in. It is the job of supervisors to go and find out how good your people are so that you can say well done and sometimes to find out where they are going wrong."
The commissioner spoke as a pathologist was carrying out the third postmortem on Ian Tomlinson's body. It was done at the request of lawyers for the TSG officer seen in footage obtained by the Guardian apparently attacking Tomlinson. The Met will be present at the postmortem after receiving advice from its lawyers.
The IPCC is investigating the circumstances of Tomlinson's death; a second incident in which a TSG sergeant is seen hitting a woman protester; and a third case that resulted from another complaint from a protester about police violence.
Stephenson has asked for a review of all footage in the Met's possession. This is being carried out by the Met's department of professional standards. Denis O'Connor, Her Majesty's inspector of constabulary, has been asked to examine the tactics used by the Met for public order events, specifically the issue of containing demonstrators for several hours.
Stephenson said the use of containment had begun after a demonstration in June 1999 when protesters caused £13m worth of damage. "The policy of containment has come from our history. As a consequence of this we … developed a policy of graduated control which at some point may involve containment. If there is a better way to do it we are up for learning it, but we don't know of a way."
Stephenson said he had received acknowledgment from police forces internationally for what the Met achieved during the G20.
"Part of the headlines should be … astonishing operation pulled off by the Met who did a first-class job," he said.
"The overwhelming majority of officers, whatever the stress or provocation, carried out their duties in a professional manner and I want to give them credit for what they achieved." He said his comments were in the context that some of the footage he had seen caused him deep concern, and the Met was cooperating with the IPCC to help provide the answers that Tomlinson's family wanted.
Stephenson said the Met had never misled anyone in the aftermath of Tomlinson's death. He said the scene where he collapsed was secured, sealed off and treated as a crime scene and the press statement the Met released in the aftermath of the death was approved by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

kleine Aster

small aster
In 1912, Gottfried Benn entered the literary stage with his expressionist book of poems, processing impressions gained from his work as a doctor in the military and in two Berlin hospitals. The book of poems was a scandal, but established his early fame.
In Kleine Aster, Benn describes the postmortem of a "drowned beer-driver". The latter is being piled up on the autopsy table. A "dark purple aster" was clamped between the dead man's teeth. Undercooled and indifferent, the speaker describes the opening of the corpse, the cutting out of the tongue and palate. In the process, the flower slips into the "adjacent brain", is taken out there by the speaker and packed into the chest cavity together with moisture-absorbing wood wool. The autopsy is finished, the corpse is sewn up again. The speaker wishes the plant to drink its fill in the corpse and find gentle rest.
The speaker expresses compassion not to the dead person, but to the plant.
A large number of new poems are also written during the 1920s, but they no longer have the radical vocabulary of the Morgue poems. Klett-Cotta - where the rights to Gottfried Benn's work are held - sells his Sämtliche Gedichte (ISBN 978-3608934496, 19.90 euros), and you only pay 4 euros for a selection of his poems in Reclams Universal-Bibliothek (ISBN 978-3150084809).

In Roman Catholic theology, purgatory (Latin: Purgatorium, via Anglo-Norman and Old French)[1] is an intermediate state after physical death in which some of those ultimately destined for heaven must first "undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven," holding that "certain offenses can be forgiven in this age, but certain others in the age to come."[2] And that entrance into Heaven requires the "remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven," for which indulgences may be given which remove "either part or all of the temporal punishment due to sin," such as an "unhealthy attachment" to sin.[3] Only those who die in the state of grace but have not yet fulfilled the temporal punishment due to their sin can be in purgatory, and therefore, no one in purgatory will remain forever in that state nor go to hell. The notion of purgatory is associated particularly with the Latin Church (in the Eastern Catholic churches it is a doctrine, though it is not often called purgatory, but the final purification or the final theosis).
Although denying the existence of purgatory as formulated in Roman Catholic doctrine,[4] the Anglican and Methodist traditions along with Eastern Orthodoxy, affirm the existence of an intermediate state, Hades, and thus pray for the dead,[5][6][7] Eastern Orthodox Churches believe in the possibility of a change of situation for the souls of the dead through the prayers of the living and the offering of the Divine Liturgy, and many Orthodox, especially among ascetics, hope and pray for a general apocatastasis.[8] Judaism also believes in the possibility of after-death purification and may even use the word "purgatory" to present its understanding of the meaning of Gehenna.[9]
The word purgatory has come to refer also to a wide range of historical and modern conceptions of postmortem suffering short of everlasting damnation[10] and is used, in a non-specific sense, to mean a condition or state of suffering or torment, especially one that is temporary

An abstract way of pictorial representation of Rembrandt’s famous masterpiece “The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp,” painted in 1632. Since that old era Science has greatly benefited from dissecting bodies of the dead, hence the dictum ensued: Mortui vivis docent (meaning “The Dead Teach The Living” in Latin).
During the Covid-19 crisis post mortem examination of patients who tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus is almost forbidden or banned in Greece (and maybe elsewhere, too). The lack of appropriate Forensic Medicine Labs serves as the excuse or pretext for the ban.
As results of the ban:
a.—Medicine lacks scientific data about histopathology abnormalities on patients’ various tissues that would be valuable for research
b.—the true cause of death cannot be accurately investigated or established (various severe conditions may have preexisted the infection), so an Over-reported and biased number of Covid-19 deaths ensues.
Such an abstract way of capturing —and displaying a simplified or flattened photograph of the painting— was attempted out of respect for the original artwork; the real painting’s aesthetics and pictorial value is unsurpassed, so it would be plain hubris for any photographer to try to faithfully “copy” the masterpiece. The original oil on canvas painting is exhibited at Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, the Netherlands. The museum was constructed in 1640.
The book used is: "Beyond the Dark Veil: Post-Mortem and Mourning Photography from The Thanatos Archive".
I know....a very morbid subject, but photography wasn't always rainbows and sunshine.
