Dublin Bus meets a Dublin treasure, the Five Lamps.

 

The saying "Do you know the Five Lamps ? " is an old saying popular in the city, as a reply to where you can go, but not on the 29A bus.

A single shot which I took because I liked the contrast between the two adjoining walls.

I photographed multiple theatres this day, and more than one had guys on ladders messing with the marquee while I wanted a photograph, lol

Historical Marker: Built by the Publix Theater division of Paramount Studios. This movie palace opened on December 26th, 1927. The theatre, in Spanish / Moorish design by Graven and Mayger of Chicago, seated 2500 in a five story, three-tiered auditorium. Paramount's president, Adolph Zukor, named it the "Showplace Of The South". The famous "Mighty Wurlitzer" pipe organ, with 21 sets of pipes, was played for many years by showman Stanleigh Malotte. The Alabama hosted many events including the Miss Alabama Pageant and the Mickey Mouse Club. Closed in 1981, the magnificent old theatre was saved from demolition in 1987 by countless volunteers, organized as Birmingham Landmarks, Inc. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and was designated by the Alabama Legislature as the official State Historic Theatre. Over 500,000 annually visit the grand old theatre for movies, concerts, opera, ballet, weddings, graduations and private parties.

This is as close to any kind of windows shot I could think of taking that wasn't just me being boring in a window. I guess it would help if I didn't start thinking about and taking my pictures earlier than like 11:45 at night... Lesson still not learned.

These two stained glass works are incorporated into each end of the original glazed canopy protecting passengers on the platform from the vagaries of the weather.

 

‘Beach’, executed in a bold and colourful style, was designed from a schools competition won by Rosalind Hurst.

 

‘Shipyards’ is more abstract in its treatment of the business of the river.
