At the entrance of the famous Verzasca valley in the Swiss canton Tessin is an old stone bridge placed which is said to date back to roman times. Real is that she is build in medieval times and had been renovated in 1906 and 1958. For me the Verzasca valley is one of the most beautyful places I have ever visited. But you should take care not to miss the last postbus back after your trecking tour through this valley.

Grimsel Pass is located in Switzerland .
The Grimsel Pass (German: Grimselpass) is a mountain pass in Switzerland, crossing the Bernese Alps at an elevation of 2,164 metres (7,100 ft). The pass connects the Haslital, the upper valley of the river Aare, with the upper valley of the Rhone. In so doing, and as the Aare is a tributary of the Rhine, the pass crosses the continental divide between the North Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Grimsel Pass is crossed by a paved road, which has a length of 38 kilometres (24 mi) between Gletsch and Meiringen. The road is normally closed between October and May, due to the high snowfall on the pass. As it is the only direct road pass between the cantons of Bern and Valais across the Bernese Alps, attempts are made to keep the road open as long as possible with snow ploughs. A PostBus Switzerland service crosses the pass several times a day, connecting Meiringen and Oberwald.
The Grimsel Pass road is part of the Aare Route, which is national cycle route 8 of Switzerland. It has been crossed on several occasions by the Tour de Suisse.

In Nailsworth, not far from Stroud in the Cotswolds, we made a walk up Butcher Hills Lane, where there is a bright postbox at the junction with Brewery Lane. Under a crown, the postbox bears the initials GR and the Roman figure V between these initials. This means the postbox was erected during the reign of King George the Fifth, between 1910 and 1936. A postbox with a respectable age!

I loved this white thatched cottage against the blue sky, with a red telephone box and a letter box in front! Well, I think the phone booth had been turned into a library. All in the village of Woodbastwick.

Star of Laufenburg Switzerland.
"In 1958, the German, French and Swiss power networks are interconnected and synchronised at the 220-kilovolt level in Laufenburg for the first time. With this act, the Central European states move closer together. The EGL substation known as the "Star of Laufenburg" marks the start of an integrated European power network. With this step, a cross-border power market is created. In 1967, the 380-kv country networks are interconnected for the first time at this substation in Laufenburg."

This installation had a pioneer role in establishing international connection and was one of the forerunner organization for integrated Pan European Electricity Industry. It was the first connection in continental Europe joining three countries.

Following a long trip by bus and Postbus (change of transport in Bignasco) you reach the charming S. Carlo hamlet in the Val Bavona valley. A cableway with large cabins brings mountain lovers up the 900m climb up to Robièi.
The small roads of the power station together with hiking paths lead to the mountain lake. Very popular here is the challenging crossing of the Cristallina-Pass (2568m) into the Val Bedretto valley. By the Robièi lake you view a large round mountain hotel, and a little further down the Basòdino, while the SAC Cristallina alpine hut lies up on the pass.

If I counted correctly, this was my fifth trip to Lake Saoseo. Although you can take a postbus from Sfazù to the Rifugio Saoseo, you have to reserve a seat here in advance and this is only possible from Monday to Friday. I was always there on weekends and my plans are too spontaneous for such long-term reservations. So always walk up the farm track, four kilometers, 400 meters in altitude, sometimes quite steep. And finally twenty minutes over a breakneck mountain path to the lake. The whole thing back afterwards. And then I've never been able to get a decent picture of this picturesque, but also quite overcrowded lake. That evening the clouds promised a colorful sunset. However, it had closed some time before, not even the mountain peaks could be seen anymore. A few minutes before sunset it broke up again, but there were still too many clouds (and in the wrong place) for the expected color spectacle. Still my best picture so far...

After a change of operators, EngadinBus is the brand of the local bus services around St. Moritz and Pontresina, while PostAuto is left with the routes over Julier and Maloja passes. The latter is operated hourly and nowadays usually Low-Floor or Low-Entry. On the picture, a MAN low-floor bus usually in service from Serneus Garage (and in St. Moritz for an unknown reason) is descending the 400 meters from Maloja summit to Casaccia in Val Bregaglia.

The valley of Samnaun, consisting of five villages, is served by a hourly bus route from and to the railway terminus of Scuol. As the standard buses can not serve the villages of Laret and Ravaisch directly due to the narrow passages, another hourly service is offered to serve the villages; the two routes complete eachother to a half-hourly service at the stops commonly served during most of the year. After around 20 years with buses in a dedicated design, a Solaris Urbino 8.9LE in the regular yellow PostAuto design is used since autumn 2021, seen here on the narrow road between Plan and Laret.
