Magome is a post town in the Kiso Valley, which served travelers of the Nakasendo, a major route connecting Tokyo with Kyoto during the Edo Period. Magome's main street is lined with wood and plaster Edo-style buildings, most of which date from the 20th century as the originals fell into disrepair or were burnt down in the frequent fires that affected both towns. Look out for the stones which hold down some of the wooden roofs.

The arch is supported by 2 inch PVC pipes we set in concrete. We bought caps to keep water out of them when the arch isn't up. The inside of the columns is hollow, so we just lift them up and over the black columns and reverse the process to put them away.
