In order to obtain experience with double-decker rolling stock, the NS has tested in October 1980 a set of SNCF double-deck suburban coaches. The train made a return trip every day during rush hour from Amersfoort to Amsterdam CS at a time when taking a good photo was almost impossible. However, the transfer ride back to France offered a good possibilty to make a decent picture of this train.

This is Lake Doxa (can be pronounced as Doksa). Doxa in greek translates to glory. The lake is surrounded by pine forests and is close to a village called Goura. It's an artificial lake in western Corinthia, in Greece. It is situated at an elevation of 900 m, located in the municipal unit Feneos, near the village Archaia Feneos (Ancient Feneos). Construction was completed in the late 1990s. It is fed and drained by the small river Doxa, which empties into the plain of Feneos. In the heart of the lake on a small peninsula, there is this small church of Agios Fanourios (Saint Fanourios). There used to be, the old Saint George Monastery, which was relocated to higher ground due to water floods, on a hill north of the lake. In the next few photos, I will try to show you some highlights of the place, but keep in mind that there are thousand possibilties for stunning photos there. All one needs, is time and some help from the weather. In this case, the weather played nice for the last couple of hours of daylight, with only some light breeze (enough to disturb the water surface of the lake sometimes though), while we were there. So without further ado ...enjoy!!! :-)

One of my favourite places is the Abbazia San Galgano in Tuscany. At every visit in Tuscany we had to go there. Back in 2010 I had the possibilty to take some night shots there. It is a fascinating place with the only gothic church in Tuscany. The ruins are worth a visit. The inner part of the church was at that time prepared for an opera concert, so the chairs and the stage filled the church.

Actually I was prepared for trains from the opposite direction (flic.kr/p/2o5BQYp), when a very loud noice announced the arrival of a hard working Ludmila from the other side. Happily there was a possibilty to take this picture too.

With this little strawberrys I had again the possibilty to play with depthfield and to get a good focus point. Even the play of shadow and light is always a challenge. Nature is so good for us when we are taking a picture, always ready and patient.

One of our first hikes in the Alps. I had a Fujifilm Finepix F30 with me ... Still impressed by the possibilty to polish a 6 MPix jpeg with Topaz Photo AI to 4 times of the original format size (97.3 MPix now) and adding a decent sharpening.

Brown gill edges are a diagnostic feature but I am not entirely sure. In some ways E. lampropus is similarly strong possibilty but I don't think it has brown gill edges.

im not too sure if i like this one or nott.

it got COLD today. and theres a possibilty it will snow on friday :) it bettter because it never snows here.

On evening of July 2nd, 2022, I made a bike ride to the main station to make a photograph of the incoming "Beach-Express" from Puttgarden. Before that, I checked the whole line between Hasselbrook and main station for another possibilty to photograph the train, but finally I ended up at this already much photographed place.

In 2012, S. Muthu Kumar and K. Sahayaraj wrote a fascinating article on the morphology and histology of the salivary glands of Rhynocoris marginatus, a Coreid Assassin Bug, closely related to our Fuscipes (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3469405/).

And relatively recent research has been done into the possibilties of using Assassin Bugs as an ecologically friendly way of pest control. These Bugs hunt agricultural pests such as moths and caterpillars of various kinds. They inject their prey with a venomous saliva; the article just quoted seeks to clarify the workings of the salivary glands of this relatively small Bug.

No, Sony didn't take this photo in an agricultural area, but the workings in the wild would be much the same. Here's Rhynocoris fuscipes making off with a caterpillar of a Mint Leaf Moth, Pyrausta panopealis (I'm not entirely sure of the specific name because of our Moth's Green Eyes which in Panopealis are taken to be black).

This little drama of life-and-death and a variety of diets - carnivorous and nectarine - took place on a single Mint Plant at the bottom of the almost sheer rocks of Tanjung Rumbeh.

So a couple of weeks ago one of my colleagues at work brought me in the Samsung Virtual Reality Glasses(as his brother works in their PR Dept) as a surprise for my birthday as he had a feeling I would love it. Guess what my fine flickr friends...He was Right !!!....I put them on and for the next 15 minutes ...I just uttered the same three words over and over and over again....OMG, OMG, OMG .....it totally blew me away and I wanted to 'stay' in there and go on virtual adventures over and over again.

First I was hanging off the bottom of a helicopter flying 500 feet over the glaciers of Iceland. A few minutes later I was in a pre-historic forest with a huge dinosaur a few feet away from me and I could not turn my head and look at him as I was so terrified and it was soooooo real....in fact it felt more than real - Reality Mark 2. I cannot even begin to describe what a gamechanger this VR is going to be after experiencing it. I spent hours afterward trying to decide which glasses I am going to get with apparently the coolest and best ones coming out in March. Take my word on this...go in to a Samsung shop and try these things on....NOW. They are also making consumer friendly 3d cameras being released shortly too....think of the possibilties !!

So its nearly February already, been so busy with work ....have I stepped in to a invisible time machine that is on permanent fast foward ????

Still working on this cataloging business when I get a spare moment - and trying to figure out a Rosiefriendly way of doing it.

I know in years to come (which may be any minute in my life the way things are going) there will be a clever Virtual Reality System that I put on my headset and 'walk' into my Chamber of Photos and sort them out quickly and easily and it will look like this wonderful old library in the centre of a spaceship that is hurtling around the universe. What will your virtual library look like ?????.

As part of the cataloging process (can I say that I hate it ) I am coming across shots that I did not upload on flickr - and this is one...look at that magnificent surf and there is the Kingdom of Bondi right at the end of it .

A late afternoon auto train from Princes Risborough to Chinnor drifts serenely by as the batsmen hesitate over the possibilty of a risky single to square leg.

Hello everybody :)

My friend @hellboy.lego ( www.flickr.com/photos/hellboy95/ ) and I decided to make a #lego Classic Castle series: Every month we are going to make a reinterpretation of a Classic Castle set (so we will make 24 MOCs in total). For my fifth creation I decided to make a re do of the 6042 Dungeon Hunters, @hellboy.lego (www.flickr.com/photos/hellboy95/ ) made an awesome reinterpretation of the 1877 Crusader's Cart - make to sure to check it out on his profil :)

Due to the fact that I wanted to build a cart this month, I searched a bit in the internet and after seeing the Dungeon Hunters set I immediately knew that I want to build that set. Next to cart it was also a nice possibilty to include an Forestmen ambush. For the trees in the middle you can find a tutoria on my Instagram account @balbo._ (www.instagram.com/balbo._/?hl=de ) . The tree on the left is the head of the Star Wars Boga animal ^^

The sixt part of the series is coming next month. Thanks for watching :)

The morning of January 14th 2012 held a lot of possibilties on Jekyll Island, GA (USA) but I didn't have a lot of time to shoot and keep running to all the spots I wanted to shoot because of the quickly changing light so I took what I could and couldn't wait for my flight back to Kansas City to be over so I could go to work on the shots. I'm sure many of you have experienced the same feeling.

I would have liked a small pool of water around this but I missed the tide badly...oh well, at least the light was working for me.

Spring is not too far away now and soon it will be time to make your plans for the summer. Why not join me in my 2012 Jackson Hole, WY wildflower photo shoot in early July. If you do, I will lead you and the group to take sunrise shots like the one below. Hope to see you there.

In early 2008 I again had started a kind of work-in-progress of solo recordings, called "micro_saxo_phone" which album title refers to the fact that I am using a sax of course + microphone (contact mics etc) of course for feeding devices as the Kaoss Pad or others + using the possibilties of my laptop. Together with this equipment I could give live performances which – for several reasons – did not happen often so far, though more probable within performances with others, as in the duo "Gift Fig" together with the American composer Carl Stone e.g.

"micro_saxo_phone, edition II", CDR Laubhuette Production M10 from 2008 gave an overview about what I was trying to state within the traditional course of my former solo recording on Side A of the LP "Plan Eden" from 1986/7 where I had begun to use electronic devices & effects in combination with solo tenor sax besides using a harmonizer here & there in the early years. On "micro_saxo_phone, edition II" I used baritone sax, tenor sax, alto sax, soprano sax, bass clarinet, breathe & saliva noise multi phonics and even bowed the saxes’ bodies (con arco) during blowing and doing percussion with the instrument’s keys.

On "micro_saxo_phone.edition III" I extended the language by means of using the sounds of the key springs which create a kind of meditative Asian feel and also through texts.

I searched for finding a way to voice words during blowing (e.g. at the beginning of "doublespeak" and tracks 14 and 15), or underlined words (and other stuff) that I had recorded on cassette in 1972 or by dubbing an interview with Japanese art photographer Nobuyoshi Araki which I had recorded in 1998 in a kind of double voicing. The same track also contains a sample of Korean gagok which is a kind of fake classical music - from some decades ago - made in Korea. "doublespeak" is the exception - as a composition – within the solos, as is "chukyo" using some of my electric guitar recordings (as well as track 3). There are also some "classical" solos (without all effects or edits): track 9, 10 (underlined alto sax solo from 1972) and 13.

With that title "doublespeak" I also refer to George Orwell’s term "doublethink", which means the ability to believe contradictory ideas simultaneously. And there are more doublespeak titles here, as "surplussed", "twonky" (software designers’ jargon inspired by a 1953 sci-fi film starring Hans Conried and Gloria Blondell about a TV that is really an alien life form) etc. Other titles refer to themes and authors that I am also dealing with these days (e.g. Ray Kurzweil, Terence McKenna,) . "chukyo" is a dedication to Chukyo University in Nagoya, Japan, where I had been invited by the above mentioned Carl Stone to lecture and had met Fomal Haut, a great artist & pioneer of computer graphics.

It's quite dark so I recommend the View On Black

I have to admit though that stockphotos open whole new horizons as you can choose to use photos you don't otherwise have a possibilty to shoot yourself...

.... photograph them!!!

Up early on a Sunday to head to Springer Market Square in Kingston, Ontario, Canada for our class photo shoot. There weren't many veggie stalls at the market today, mainly it is antique day so when I saw this merchant start to set up I quickly explained that I was a student in a photo class at the local college and we were here to shoot today...would the vendor mind my taking some photos.

The shots that actually "tickled my fancy" at the market were all the buildings in the area and not the antiques that were all around so our teacher said by all means photograph buildings away if that is what my eye found appealing. Kingston really has some gorgeous old architecture if only one would look up in a lot of instances.

Nonetheless, I did manage to get some "market shots" in as seen here.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek. I hope you all know that I appreciate your comments however, awards and invites aren't necessary.

I like winter's graphic possibilties.

The process of creative writing has metaphorically been linked to giving birth. I am yet to discover the nuances of this metaphor but as someone who has recently started to write creatively in a public space, I, presently, see the process inherently more selfish than an educated mothering and still inherently wilder.

The moment the possibilty arises for conception, a creative writer throws herself at it with all the might of her mind and soul. She becomes a manipulative, unforgiving, fierce hunter, a cunning plotter, a selfish lover, a nurturing and patient caregiver.

However, the moment right after, she loses control to her own beauty and her own beast. She becomes haunted and victim to the teeth of this creative force. Her blood and lymph feed the fetus relentlessly. The mightier the force of creation, the more of her is fed to the fetus.

The next moment is Now when her creation takes one form amongst all possible forms. Her creation is out there, already independent, already hungry, already seeking prey. She looks at her newborn as it breathes and changes shape in every breath, in every light, every angle. The creator has already lost all control; her creation becomes her, becomes her world, swallows her, swallows her world. The creator is the first prey; the form swallows; the content is pregnant. Every word, every sound, every shape of every letter of every sign, every symbol, grows and expands in the eye and in the mind of each reader.

The child swallows mother in the eye of the reader and swallows the imagination of each reader. Possibilties arise and are born out of these imaginative, creative readings, none in control of the writer. Now each imagination feeds the child as infinite creations and births occur.

In this panting circle of life, I, Afsaneh, become the restless neurotic, the haunted, then the famished hunter, the relentless rapist, and yet then the conceived, the lover, the mother, now the fetus, the prey, and in a final tragic ending, the abandoned. In relation to my published writing/ photography, Afsaneh can now only be the one who constantly looks back and breaks to see prismatically around and beyond.

My creations now roam the world, as independent homeless wanderes, as welcome and as intruding as each and every mind who hosts them, allows them to set up room in them. They expand to the borders of Possibility, infinitely remote and removed from the original possibility that first conceived them.

I, Afsaneh, as an imaginitive author grow with my craft to write what can have the largest life, peeling off my reality with each draft from the real. I send my children to boarding schools of wizardry, cabal, and magic. Each experience, each draft, becomes a memory, a symbol, a dream, a fever, a layer to my unknown, unshaped creation. Craft becomes art in the process, as I strive to become an artist; the process becomes my art.

All throughout, I struggle to create possibility, one and as many, to expand my Now, to give wings to my freedom, to break free of your world, to free you, the mind, the imagination, the reader, the creator.

Enjoyed a pleasant visit to Portreath, one of those places that manages to keep off off the main radar of visitors to West Cornwall.

It is popular, but never seems to get crowded out and you couldn't describe it as being over-commercialised.

While I was there, I overheard a couple who were discussing the possibilty of swimming out to Gull Rock (pictured just offshore) and back. Not sure whether this is actually a thing and whether they attempted the exercise.

a drawing (inkt) on Yupo with watercolor for somebody must in B&W and gonna try now in 3D, are there still other possibilties ?

Taltzen lake is for me a paradise for landscape photography, and this picture can give you an idea of the possibilty that you can encounter at this site. It is at fall that i took this pic, and in the water with my tripo that i have been able to curve the water and bring the lilly pad near by my lense.

ATLANTIC CITY USA, 1929. This is a photo from a rediscovered photo album that once belonged to Edy Hartenberger, acrobat from Maria Trost/ Vienna in Austria, living in Berlin (See introduction and other photo's in the Orellys set) Most people portrayed in the album are other artists or their family. He was on a US tour with his family and photographed this girl, it says on the back her name is Olly Adler in Atlantic city in 1929.There was the boxing promotor Olson Adler, there were the Adlers who had the corsage business in A.C., and of course there was Felix Adler. There were also the Adler's in Yiddish theatre (Stella Adler et al). But she could have been a relation of the 'media Adlers' of the Lee Corporation in Iowa who had plenty of interests in the 'Keith Circuit' of performers that the Hartenbergers worked in, their involvement with stage and variety made that the Orpheum Theatre in Davenport, Iowa, was renamed the Adler Theatre. Didn't know if there is any connection with any of these Adlers. Because it was likely she was holidaying or working in this resort in A.C. She could have been from....well, anywhere at all!!! She might well have been from Vienna and they met in A.C as fellow countrymen- there were lots of Adlers in Vienna (One of which the eminent psychotherapist Alfred Adler, was on tour in the US himself in 1929 and had brought his family along. unfortunately, none of his daughters was named Olly or anything like it, or they might have fitted the bill wonderfully) If she had been from Vienna, unless she stayed in the US, she might not have survived the war. I found a claims commission denial to the effects of an Czech Olga Adlerova (which is the customary Slavik female version of Adler) which could not be matched conclusively to the account of one Olga Adler (Vienna, Austria).

I have been assuming that Olly Adler was jewish, but I discovered there are quite a few Gentile Christian families in the midwest and south such as Kentucky (amongst hem several Olly's and Ollie's) named Adler. So all remains a mystery.

This photo has grown on me and I would love to settle my curiousity and know who she was, but of course there were thousands of Adlers on both sides of the ocean.I wondered if it was someone they knew before or someone they knew in America or she was a guest at one of the resorts (if so, which one?) where they performed.

Searching the Internet for possibilities, Ollie Olly and Olga Adler proves to be a fascinating name with lots of possibilties; An Olga Adler was held in contempt of court for inapropriate remarks in the fifties, another one related to UFO searchers that she had been cured of backpain by an alien in 1973, etcetera. But is one of them this young girl in the roaring twenties? If anyone has any idea or can tell me more -anything- circumstantially (such as about the location seen in the background) please let me know

Update: Location resolved. thanks to tdh4507

UPDATE sept 24 2010: After almost 8 years and many many Olly Adlers, the mystery is SOLVED.

In a passenger list for William Hartenberger, who arrived later then the rest of the Hartenbergers, the residency address given was with their Theatrical Agent, one Alfred Adler of 'World Entertainment Agency'. Adler!

Through Alfred Adler, I found that his wife's name was, according to US immigration, Erna Olly Adler, born december 16th 1898 (so she was older than she looked in the photo, she was already 31 here, who would have thought!) in Liegnitz, Germany. She emigrated to the US in 1921 and was married to Alfred Adler august 1, 1927 in Manhattan. So Olly is probably her maiden name.

According to the Social Security Death Index she died in New York in 1966.

I would love to get in touch with any family members and know more about their life.

this is the place where i don't feel alone.

this is the place i feel i'm home.

i've been loving the weather. rain makes me happier than anything else.

i dont love this, but i have a thing for reflections.

there is another world inside them, and it's brighter and made of possibilities.

that's what this picture is about.

the possibility

of sun on a cloudy day.

of leaving a place and not coming back.

of love somewhere you've yet to look.

of building something where there was nothing.

of possibilities.

i don't feel alone in those possibilities. i find a home there.

my secret to life and inspiration for this picture. and basically every picture i've ever taken:

this and this at the same time.

happy spring break.

I love the possibilty to shoot 2 seconds exposure hand-held. 😀

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As we all know, Elves don't really die by age in Tolkien's Universe. But - and this is what I thought about - Elves could die by violence. I did a bit of research about that, and found a few sentences about Elves died in war (or violence in general). They said, that the bodies stay dead but the elvish souls return. They got the possibilty to return by rebirth. I added a bit of fantasy and imagined the Mirkwood Elves to bury the dead bodies in the Forest itself. (Maybe there are Silmarillion Pro's who know about such cases, I'm interested ;))
Seit gut einem Jahr ist die BOB nur noch mit neuem Rollmaterial (Triebzüge und Steuerwagen, alle mit Schwab-Kupplung) unterwegs. Viel Altes wurde ausrangiert, verschrottet oder verkauft. Dennoch ist ein kleiner Teil der Altfahrzeuge auch heute noch im Einsatz, so z.B. der Triebwagen ABeh 4/4 311. Er ist der erste komplett umgebaute Triebwagen (neue Inneneinrichtung, neue Stromrichter für Vielfachsteuerung mit Triebzügen zwischen Interlaken Ost und Zweilütschinen und entsprechende Schwab-Kupplungen). Als siebtes Triebfahrzeug bietet er mehr Reserve in der Flotte. Des weiteren sind zwei Module bestehend aus je einem B 261/262 (Vevey) und ABt 414/415 (ex. RBS) gebildet worden. Unter sich sind sie mit der bisherigen +GF+ Kupplung verbunden, am anderen Ende befindet sich die neue Schwab-Kupplung. Die beiden Pakete ergänzen die Flotte der Gelenksteuerwagen (GSW).
Dadurch lassen sich Kompositionen bilden, wie sie vor dem neuen Rollmaterialkonzept üblich waren. ABeh 4/4 311 fährt mit seinem GSW ABt von 2004 und dem Modul B 261 / ABt 414 genau so als Zug 157 Richtung Lauterbrunnen durch Wilderswil. Nur die Reihenfolge von GSW und Modul müsste noch umgekehrt sein ;)
Nicht im Bild zu sehen ist der in Vielfachsteuerung angehängte Zugteil 257 nach Grindelwald.
More than a year ago, the new rolling stock concept of BOB (Berner Oberland Bahn) with new trainsets and clutches was launched. Although a big part has been scarped, some old rolling stock is still in service:
The rail car ABeh 4/4 311 has been modernisized with a new interior and the possibilty for multiple unit operation with the trainsets between Interlaken Ost and Zweilütschinen. Furthermore two carriage modules of each one B261/262 and ABt 414/415 are furnished with new clutches to use them with the new rolling stock too.
Due that, it is possible to form compositions like they were common before 2018.
ABeh 4/4 II 311 with a driving trailer from 2004 and the module B 261 / ABt 414 is on the way to Lauterbrunnen as train 157 while passing Wilderswi. Behind the cottage resides the train part to Grindelwald.
With 4014 on the road headed our direction (southern California) here's an additional view of what the 12th of October
might look like. UP 3985 east at Pine Lodge on the number 1 main in Cajon Pass. Returning east after being in Los Angeles for the 2000 DNC Convention. I would guess there will be even more fans in this view when 4014 makes its run up Cajon in two weeks.
"Und you pelief, ten," he inquired, "at te last? You pelief, ten, in te possibilty of te odd?"
(E. A. Poe) 3/26
Sadly that is the real possibilty of what these little lads will be,
but I'm planning on saving one of the two at the front - don't ask me which is which though ;o)
For ODC midpoint of the year too...
