This powerful yet serene light sculpture captivated me for quite some time and inspired me to create a few self-portraits featured and lit by the changing hues.

“Physically defined by two reflective corners opposing each other within a square space... This immersive installation creates an ever-changing, infinite space for color through a unique color choreography created by Smith defining color, brightness, and pace of change. One's perception of actual space and reflected space is constantly in flux as various panels shift from pure mirror to full fields of shifting color.” — Instagram / Phillip K. Smith III

“Numerous, ever changing colors occur in Two Corners where large mirrored light boxes filled with LEDs are installed on adjacent walls that meet in a corner. Viewers see themselves in the mirrored surfaces, along with numerous receding rectangles that slowly morph from hue to hue.” — Artillery Mag / 2023-03-14 / Outside LA: Phillip K. Smith III - Palm Springs Art Museum

Ha!

This wasn't the great final shot I've had planned for months. Nor is it the 'Oh shit, we're gonna be out of town that weekend, so my great final shot won't do and I must come up with another idea' shot that I've had planned for a few weeks. It's so me to plan and plan and plan for things and then just say 'fuck it' when I realize how much of my 'fun time' is going to be wasted by trying to get the perfect photo I see in my head.

We had an awesome weekend. We drove three hours west to a buddy's vacation home on a lake with about a dozen other folks to celebrate Rj's upcoming 30th birthday. It was a much needed break for me, as I've never been away from my son for more than a couple of hours.

It was this very same weekend last year that the same group of folks got together for Rj's best friend's 30th birthday party. The day before we were supposed to leave for the weekend-long party, Drake broke out in a rash. It didn't take long for us to figure out that it was the chicken pox, brought on by his vaccination. I wasn't taking Drake out with a contagious illness, so I told Rj to go on without us and I spent my first weekend alone with my 12 month old son. He spent much of the weekend sleeping and I was just playing around with my camera. My first 365 shot was actually taken before I even knew about the group - it was introduced to me later that day.

I can't believe I made it through the entire year, without missing a single day. It's out of my system now though and I will not be continuing with the daily self portrait experience. No worries, I'll still be around. I'm only 36 weeks into my 52 Weeks project, a weekly self portrait featuring Drake. And I have a few ideas for regular ol' self portraits that I hope to be able to execute now that there's no pressure to do this daily.

Thanks to everyone for all of your comments/faves/views. I wasn't into photography prior to this project and I definitely wouldn't be where I am now if it hadn't been for the all of the feedback I've received over the past year.

I plan to spend a good amount of time reflecting on the past year of my life and how this project has documented that. I've got some stats I wanna throw up and a few personalized thank yous to give out. I'll keep y'all posted when I have more information!

Day 3/365

Original plan for today was to try and get a shot of the supermoon tonight. The cloud cover all day led to a change of plan. Luckily while on a walk this morning I was able to have a few back up shots.

First choice was this shot of some yellow flowers in the garden beds at the Village Green.

It is interesting playing around with the portrait feature on the phone and learning the effects possible.

Another Fullerton Sunrise, this is from last week. Three exposures manually blended in Photoshop. Still not happy with these, not quite the shot I have wanted, but this one was more due to water conditions being so bad, that no matter how long the exposure the water looked milky and not more glass like. Clouds were great though.

The James D. Westcott Building is a historic building on the campus of The Florida State University in Tallahassee, in the U.S. state of Florida. The Westcott Building currently houses the chief administrative offices for Florida State University and is the primary focal point of the campus as seen down College Avenue. The building lobby serves to welcome visitors and provide performance entertainment space for viewers. Two bronze doors at the entrance of the building lead to a hallway gallery of presidential portraits. Each individual portrait featured in the hallway portray a president whose vision drove the university to what it is today. The building is also home to Ruby Diamond Auditorium. It is known for its distinctive appearance.

Built in 1910, the Westcott building was named after James Diament Westcott, Jr. who was an early contributor to Florida State University; his estate was valued at $100,000.

The Westcott building was built in 1910 to serve as the Florida State College's administration building by which it was known until 1936. In that year the building was renamed the James D. Westcott, Jr. Memorial Building by then university president Edward Conradi in remembrance of the former Florida Supreme Court justice who had left a large part of his estate to what was then the West Florida Seminary in 1887.

Westcott fountain is a historic landmark on the campus of Florida State University. It sits at the end of College Avenue in front of the Westcott building. There is a large, marble plaque in front of the fountain with the Florida State University logo, used to welcome people to campus. Westcott fountain came into the possession of Florida State University in 1917 as a gift from the Florida State College for Women, classes of 1915 and 1917. Today, the fountain is a strong symbol of unity and heritage for Florida State University.

Westcott fountain sits in the center of a plaza, surrounded by engraved bricks. The bricks commemorate students, professors and others who have contributed to Florida State University. The Florida State University Alumni Association administers the "Brick Program." The brick plaza was a project of the classes of 1996 and 1997. Its construction in 1998 was possible through the generous donations of students, alumni, faculty, staff and more. The bricks are used to commemorate names, special dates and accomplishments and new bricks are installed every semester.

In 1982 the fountain was renovated in commemoration of Professor Anna Forbes Liddell. The fountain that is there today is however not the original one. Westcott fountain was replaced in 1988, due to failure of the original support system. Westcott fountain sits upon what was previously referred to as "Gallows Hill": during the 1830s, the hill was a site of executions. Westcott fountain has become a monument at Florida State University. It is a symbol of the University that sits proudly at the main entrance to the school.

I posted a total of 16 images at that time and decided to quit because I knew everyone was getting tired of them, as was I... However, I had six more images I wanted to post and have decided to post them now. I hope you all will indulge me and hopefully you will enjoy seeing six more images.

This retrospective of paintings by Alice Neel (1900–1984) – one of North America’s most important female artists, although largely unappreciated during her own lifetime – is the fruit of a collaboration between several European institutions. The exhibition at the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles places the US painter and her realist brush firmly in the spotlight. Imbued with a powerful psychological dimension, Neel’s portraits bear witness to almost a century of evolution in attitudes towards gender and ethnicity, and to radical changes in fashion at the heart of American society. Working in an epoch that declared abstraction the new modernism, Neel would always remain a “painter of modern life” as imagined by Charles Baudelaire, with whom she shared the same vision of modernity and the artist’s role in relation to it.

Hallmarked at once by expressionism and realism, Alice Neel’s œuvre translates the paradoxical personality of its maker, who wanted to paint individuals from all social classes and create a visual history of her time – a Comédie Humaine.

Conceived by Jeremy Lewison, the leading expert on Alice Neel, the exhibition presents more than seventy paintings, including a portrait of Andy Warhol “laid bare” under the artist’s keen gaze. After the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag in The Hague, the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles welcomes this major exhibition from 4 March to 17 September 2017, after which it will travel on to Germany and the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg.

Alice Neel is born on 28 January 1900 in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, USA.

She studies art at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women, an institution that distances itself from the formalist approach to art taught during this epoch.

In the 1930s Alice Neel lives in Greenwich Village, a district of New York with a Bohemian reputation and popular with artists. She is entered on the payroll of the Works Progress Administration, for which she paints urban scenes. During this period she also meets and paints the portraits of fellow Communist Party sympathizers.

In 1938 she moves to Spanish Harlem (today East Harlem), where she embarks on a new series of portraits featuring Puerto Ricans, among others.

In the 1960s she settles in Upper West Side, where she reconnects with the art world and executes her famous portraits of artists, gallerists and curators. At the end of the decade she finds inspiration for her art not only among family members, but also by observing women and children, whom she thus paints at the dawn of the feminist movement. From this period onwards, too, her painting is finally recognized by the American art scene and celebrated in the form of numerous solo and collective shows.

Alice Neel dies on 13 October 1984 in New York.

I took this shot in a beach house on Edisto Island, SC. I just arrived home yesterday from a week of vacation. I always find that when I leave home, it seems so wonderful when I come back. I get so accustomed to being at home that I stop realizing how lucky I am to have such an amazing place to live. The smell of my home, the comfort of home, and the beautiful North Carolina mountains that surround me; it all takes me in with open arms and shows me that I am so, so lucky. I love vacations but home is always where my heart is.

As most of you know I am from Ukraine, an Eastern European country.

Anyways, here is something I came up with after seeing how my country is portrayed in the overseas media. So is a cold portrait featuring a matryoshka. The model Valeriia, a fellow student wearing my over-sized cardigan. The title is taken from the song(s). There are like 3-4 songs titled "Russian Lullaby".

For November I plan on doing a loose theme of Villain portraits.

Featuring Joker, Harley, Scarecrow and the greatest villain of all, Bart Simpson!

my scanner did this but i probably would have anyway

second self portrait featuring my face that i don't hate (even if it is only half)

Keeping up with the day job theme this is a photo of one of our managers for inclusion in a magazine feature in the near future. By the time I get this posted it will probably be the recent past.

Self portrait featuring me, thirty candles, and my mom, who helped me focus the shot and position some very deliberate bubbles.

Well I guess I can post a new one or two while I'm here. 😉

This is my first effort at using the portrait feature on our new IPhone. (Yes, something else is new around here besides my knee.)

Just a test really, but I like what I see so far...don't you? Neat! 😊

Took advantage of yesterday's set up to update my bio portrait ... featuring my DIY hand painted backdrop!! Wooo
