I have taken many images of Bow Fiddle but for some time now, I have been meaning to do a panorama of the Bow. All too often, the average image of it does not convey the size of the rock sufficiently. A wide angle lens gets the whole scene but always makes it too small in the image. This image was to finally address this so it could be seen for the size it actually is. Glad I finally did it. :-)

I had forgotten about this image, taken back in June and it was just sitting on my hard drive waiting to be edited. Glad I went back through them all and found it. :-)

8 Minute Long Exposure taken at dawn on my recent trip to Bow Fiddle Rock in Portknockie. I hadn't actually intended to do any long exposure work as I was here to catch the sun rising in the arch but as I arrived in good time, I done a few long exposures catching the swirling colours and light of the dawn sky. The sun appeared just six minutes after this shot. Breath-taking moment
A popular site in Portknockie is Bow Fiddle Rock, a large rock about 50 feet high just off the coast. The quartzite structure has a large sea arch, which somewhat resembles the bow of a fiddle, making it an example of a natural arch.

I though it would be nice to post a picture that captures a number of my favourite locations to photograph in one image and from a new perspective. Now to figure out how to do a long exposure on the water! :-)

Looking over some old files tonight & came across the vibrant and atmospheric post sunset shot of Bow Fiddle Rock in Portknockie. If I remember correctly it was the very first night I tried out my 10 stop filter.

On my little road trip around Scotland I was really taken by Bow Fiddle and was really keen to capture the sunrise behind it.
Patience was needed as the first two mornings where raining but on the third eventually the sun appeared from behind the clouds!
The classic POV from down at sea level with the rocks appearing as the tide went out.

Another shot of Bowfiddle rock. This time I tried to catch the energy of the waves as they crash against the rocks. Not quite the force of an Atlantic roller but enough to make me careful of being caught out. And in case you were wondering, yes I did get soaked again.
A wonderful couple of days spent at Portknockie in Scotland whilst waiting for the sun to appear so I could capture this amazing natural structure.
This was taken before the sun appeared but I quite liked the tones!
Bow Fiddle Rock is a natural sea arch near Portknockie on the north-eastern coast of Scotland. It is so called because it resembles the tip of a fiddle bow. It is composed of Quartzite, a metamorphic rock which was originally quartz sandstone.
