Had I known what we know now, I would *not* have made this purchase of a βportableβ AC unit. Yesterday we used a turkey baster to get rid of 2 quarts of water that leaked from the drain in the back in a 12 hour time period (2 hours of which were during a power outage, so it wasn't producing water)!! One or the other of us was using the turkey baster to pull up water from the tray every half hour.
Take it back you say? The box was broken down and recycled, besides which it is almost 70 pounds!! SIGHβ¦. I want/need a small window AC, light enough that we can put it in!!

The far end of the room had the electronics bench, and recently, the portable A/C/ unit fighting for space between it, and the rolling workbench peeking in from out of frame right.
The corner opposite the piano setup has the rolling workbench, which is currently just serving as an annoying catch-all, loaded with file boxes, boxes of screws, a handful of external HDDs, and CD/DVD drives, and a small compressor.
Peeking in at left is the electronics bench, and at frame right is my mini machine bench.
On this side of the room, butting up against the office door (out of frame right) is my ever-evolving machine bench. There are a lot of things in the works still for building this up, adding features, and expanding its capabilities, but it's incredibly difficult to find time to accomplish these things. Slowly, but surely. For example, I've just started setting up the keypad in the foreground. This is not where it will be located, but there are other projects to finish first before it can be mounted properly.
It seems easier to get into this corner now, because the piano is shorter, and more shallow, but the electronics bench was on smooth-rolling wheels, and could be pulled from the wall with a finger. The piano, and its hutch are lighter, and the piano is on Teflon sliders, but it's a lot more work to move them.
The workbench here in the corner is on big rubber wheels, so it can be moved, and I have some ideas that will require it to be moved, but working at the bench is a bit harder now, because I can't move the piano if needed. I've never worked on that bench, but I've been kind of hoping to get things set up so I could, with a light under that shelf, and everything. I'm still rethinking how to take care of this big, useless pile.

Here's the result of the great shuffling. The electronics bench and piano/piano hutch setup have been swapped, and the portable A/C unit has been shoehorned into the corner. I had to make some modifications to the A/C unit's window intake/exhaust panel to get it to fit in the much shorter window, but now it works fine.
The biggest problems with the electronics bench being here are that it's a bit uglier, putting up a big brown wall right next to my main computer, and it's really cramped. The A/C unit isn't auto-draining, so I need to empty it when it fills with water, and that's a little rubber plug on the backside, bottom. I'll have to move the electronics bench to get to it.
I'd love to drill a small hole in the floor, and just run the plug tube right down into the ground, beneath the house, and let it trickle drain all the time, but I'm renting this place.

This corner has my main computer desk on the left, piano setup in the corner, and electronics bench at the far end of the room (right edge of photo).
To make it easier to sweep, and vacuum around the edges of the room, I'm mounting all wires up a couple of feet. This is a way-too-long coil of CAT-5 cable that hooks my machine bench PC to the router on my main PC. To hang the coil, I just drilled a hole in the drywall by twisting a phillips head screwdriver into it, and then inserting a U-shaped pegboard hook. There are a handful of other wires to hang, but I'm now actually considering just mounting more shallow hooks, so I can remove the cables easily if I need to.
Just as was the case with the electronics bench when it was here, the piano is much easier to get to at the end of the room now, as there's nothing sticking into the space in front of it. In the old configuration, my back right side was pushed into the corner of the electronics bench. However, now the electronics bench, which is where the piano was, is a bit cramped, with a small section of it hidden behind the left edge of the piano. If only this office was 3' longer, and wider, things would fit pretty well.
With the left wall cut, I had it do the same to the right wall, and then zig-zag back and forth over the bottom, cutting it to length. I wanted to cut to the black line I marked in Sharpie marker - later extended accurately to both edges with a General Ultra Rule, but I didn't have enough depth between spindle, and Z column, so I just ran the code in two passes, moving the table to the final Y location before running the second pass.
I had homed Z to the sacrificial plate to which the extension leaf is clamped here, and not wanting to waste sacrificial plate on this simple thing, I had the Z stop 0.005" shy of 0, and just broke the last bit by hand, cleaning the edge a bit with a pass of an X-ACTO blade. The end result was a factory sharp edge, far more clean than it needed to be, as both ends would be hidden by the panel, and window frame.
It took some doing, but I got the piano, and hutch move from the back left corner, to the wall where the electronics bench was. This was a short move - just around the corner - but there were a lot of cables, and shaky bits (like that lamp) that had to be dealt with. I also used the opportunity to mount some wire to the walls, and to sweep the dusty floors in the corner.
This is another shot of the most annoying corner in the office. This is the catch-all corner. That shelf isn't really doing me any favors. Honestly, I'd like to fill the entire top 1/3rd of this wall with cabinetry, and then a great deal of things can be shelved up there, totally out of my way, freeing up a lot of bench, and floor space. The cabinets would also help keep a lot of the LA dust out of the things stored inside.
It was about 3AM, so I couldn't go out and saw this thick, PVC, portable A/C unit window intake/exhaust plate extension leaf in my garage, so I clamped it into my mini mill, and wrote some code to have it cut it to length.

I had it zig-zag down through the left side wall first, just to the depth of the surface of the middle section.
The shortened leaf fits perfectly at the top of the A/C unit's intake/exhaust plate. Expanding it, and setting the screws, it's a tight fit.
