Well, we're a month later than usual, but finally today, we opened the pool!
Jaymi had a great time with two of our neighbours, swimming all day.
Turquoise Pool is a hot spring in Midway Geyser Basin.
The colour blue is so saturated turquoise that on this fine day when I took the image it looks so surreal within the landscape.
The Hayden expedition of 1878 named this pool, Turquoise Pool and so apt it was then and is now!
I should have taken a "before" shot. Dad's pool was left unattended for a little too long and was filled with some really nasty algae. I've been cleaning it this week and you can see it's still a little foggy. The duck is a chlorine dispenser. I bought it thinking of DJ.

Vernal pools are small, isolated wetlands that occur in forested settings throughout
Michigan. Vernal pools experience cyclic periods of water inundation and drying, typically filling
with water in the spring or fall and drying during the summer or in drought years. Substrates
often consist of mineral soils underlain by an impermeable layer such as clay, and may be covered by a layer of interwoven fibrous roots and dead leaves. Though relatively small, and
sometimes overlooked, vernal pools provide critical habitat for many plants and animals, including breeding amphibians such as frogs and salamanders.
