Skipwith Common, Yorkshire UK
Skipwith NNR is a 265 ha (660 acre) nature reserve and SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) - one of the last remaining areas of lowland heath in the north of the England. The Common of open heath, ponds, mire, fen, reed-bed,woodland and scrub is an ancient landscape. The Escrick Park Estate manages the land with the support of Natural England.
Along with Hebridean sheep and Longhorn cattle, Exmoor ponies graze and browse the scrub. This encourages regrowth and ensures that the incredible diversity will survive well into the next millennium.
Exmoors have carved a niche for themselves as conservation grazers. Their excellent dental conformation makes them very neat grazers with a clean bite. They readily graze on tough herbage that other animals will not touch allowing more delicate plants space to grow.
They are also employed by a number of county Wildlife Trusts, the National Trust and the RSPB.
The Shetlands are famous for their cold stormy weather with strong winds and rain, and the hardy Shetland ponies evolved over thousands of years to live with these conditions. A Shetland pony with its long windblown mane and tail stands in a green meadow. North Scotland.

Part of my Welsh moor pony, set lovely animals and this little fella, always seemed to have some bracken in his main.

Yesterday Anita and I were joined by her aunt and we headed back to Highland County Virginia, one of our favorite travels where we paid another visit to the pony and donkey sanctuary. This place never fails to put a smile on my face... all that adorable cuteness just running around enjoying their day. The best! Despite heavy fog in the higher elevations and the fact that some of the restrooms we visited throughout the day were minus toilet paper we had another wonderful adventure with much laughter and high spirits!
After walking from Coleton camp to Scabbacombe Sands .I was lucky enough to see the herd of Dartmoor ponies that roam free in the area on the beach .The National trust manages the area and the ponies are kept to keep the scrub down.

Nice easy walk around some of the lower Carneddau area, had some nice skies and the sun came out. Lots of Ponies with foals too.

Shirl was watching a load of cookery programmes last night so I excused myself from the living room and decided to have a play around in Photoshop. The result was my first Triptych. It was a messy process so I assume I can't have been taking the straightforward and recommended creation route. I'll keep plugging away though.
The subjects are a small group of Exmoor Ponies we came across on the hills above Hebden Bridge.

She caught his sideways look at her. "Whaaaat?" she whinnied. Well he loved that look. 50 percent fun. 20 percent mischief. 10 percent quizzical. 20 percent pure "Ooooooo!"
But he had felt the lips of the other eighteen or so females on the hillside, and her's were the softest, and her hind quarters the firmest and most patable. The thought made the hairs on the back of his neck,......... his mane, stand up, and he pinned his ears back ready for the verbal onslaught he knew he would get for daring to have inappropriate thoughts.
Well if you thought the pony perve was about to launch into a load of pony porn, you'll be disappointed. The herd is already big enough. No foaling about permitted.
