The last of my mini 'bobble hat' series was Erica who I met in a very busy alley way in China Town. It was quite crowded and we had to work hard to get the timing right so that there were as few distracting crowds in the background.
Erica was quite bemused by being selected for a portrait due to her hat, but was a great sport and played along wonderfully. She told me that she aquired the hat in The Netherlands.
We did walk around for a little longer and I approached one more person in a bobble hat but half way into my pitch I saw the look on her face and laughed, told her that her expression was telling me no even if she was too polite to say it. She looked relieved!
After this we decided that we'd had enough of the cold and retired to the pub for a well earned drink.

I always find it amusing approaching people on Rupert Street. Rupert street leads into London's very small 'Red Light' district. It's quite touristy during the day but still has it's fair share of people trying to husstle. Which is why I always expect people to be more wary of me than they are.
Still on my quest for bobble hats, looking to show them at their cute, playful best, I spotted a couple standing right by the entrance to the dodgy but who definitely weren't locals. I wish I could remember her name. I'm sure I recorded it and my notes on the encounter on my phone but when I look for the recorded file, it's not there. Tech fail!

It's been a long time since I got out with my camera to shoot street portraits. But it was long past due when I finally had a chance to meet up with Pete and Arnab last Saturday.
It was great catching up with friends and I certainly didn't have my eye fully on the photography task at hand as we walked around Soho while catching up.
I've had in mind for a while now to do a mini series on particular styles, and being winter, I wanted to start with bobble hats which seem to be more popular than ever. I don't know why it is that I love them so much, but I do. I think they look fun, and cute not too serious. Which is the best way to deal with the cold.
Luchia here was the first to really catch my eye and happily followed me over to a plain white wall and posed for a couple of pictures. Though I got the impression after I tried for one more (this one) that he was running out of patience so I didn't spend much time chatting but thanked him and wished him well.
