"Climate change is sometimes misunderstood as being about changes in the weather. In reality, it is about changes in our very way of life."
(Paul Polman)
The second video of the Endless Perspectives video is online now:
After adding some colour to Amsterdam, Does packed his bags and loaded his car with paint and blank canvasses to drive to London. Check-in at the Eurotunnel in Calais went smoothly. Upon exit in the UK there were a few question at customs about all the equipment in the back of the car. While the spray cans raised some eyebrows, Does and cameraman Stephan Polman were able to talk their way out of this and off they went into the streets of London.Next week the journey continues on to another European city. Until then, we hope you enjoy this second official video for the 'Endless Perspectives' project.

The fourth Endless Perspectives is now online:
A lot of excitement surrounded the trip to Paris as Parisien friends had hinted towards an interesting location for the project: a tunnel and train track next to a hidden gypsy camp. After a long walk through the forest with a pack of canvasses, Does and Stephan Polman stumbled upon this trackside spot in Paris. On the way back while walking through the gypsy garden, Does found a rusty 'get away' van with bullet holes and could not resist the temptation of giving it a layer of paint. After this extraordinary painting session they went straight to Paris centre, where a few glasses of fine French wine were awaiting them. On the way back they stopped at the square in front of La Basilique Du Sacre Coeur as sunrise was kicking in, the streets were being cleaned and the fresh milk was being delivered: “Il est cinq heures, Paris s’eveille”. The icing on the cake was Blankeroy's email with beats and melodies for each of the cities they visited so far.
Exhibition opens on Friday the 5th of April!

This is the first official video for the project 'Endless Perspectives'.
Does traveled to several cities to paint canvasses incorporated into murals. His journeys were documented by cameraman Stephan Polman who accompanied Does during his travels to each of these cities. After returning from their travels Rube Parthoens jumped in to edit the footage and Blankeroy started cooking up a tune to match the respective city. The results of the project will be shown during an exhibition on April 5, 6 and 7, at a construction site in the centre of Melbourne. His journey started in Amsterdam. The next city will be launched next week. So stay tuned for more!

"Climate change is sometimes misunderstood as being about changes in the weather. In reality, it is about changes in our very way of life." - Paul Polman
This week it was hard to not hear the words of Greta Thunberg on television warning us that all of us need to have more action in how we deal with climate change. The truly difficult part of this action is for people like me to change my "convenient" habits. I ride my bike to work as often as I can but there are days I really have to convince myself I can ride in the rain or cooler temps when taking the car would be so convenient. Camping in Killarney Park, we meet many people who still "bother" to put up tents or very small campers and live at the site with no hydro. Our meals are simple. We hike, swim or read. We even socialize with people on a big rock as we watch the sunset. For camping, we get to choose this way of life with fewer conveniences and enjoy the beautiful natural environment. I hope our future generations will able to chose like we do, instead of being forced to change their "convenient" lives because we have stripped our resources. The earth will survive whatever we do to it. But our way of life will change......if we don't disappear altogether!
Thank you to all the people who strive to keep our wilderness places healthy and protected.

Salt was dissolved in tonic water containing quinine sulfate. A small amount of manganese sulfate and lead nitrate was added. Ørsted has fully commissioned the Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm. The wind farm has a peak capacity of 752 MW, making it the largest offshore wind farm in the Netherlands and one of the largest operating offshore wind farms in the world.
The construction of the wind farm finished on November 27th 2020, almost 4 weeks ahead of the in 2018 predicted schedule . The official opening by Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate (Erik Wiebes, if still in office due to the elections and perhaps the after math of the parliamentary interrogation committee childcare allowance ) and King’s Commissioner to Zeeland (Han Polman) has been postponed due to COVID-19 measures. If the COVID-19 measures allow it, both men will open the wind farm on April 19, 2021 together with Ørsted CEO Mads Nipper. The opening can be followed live from 2 pm to 5 pm at www.inaugurationborssele.com.
Technical stuff
This single shot was take at 2000 ISO, F4,5, 1/500 (due to the rolling ship) at 30.2 9 (APS-C) or 45 (FF) mils. Post-production was minimal. Just balancing the lighting and boosting the contrast a little. Finally I added some small copyright signs. The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the frequent copying of my photos. So, don't bother commenting on that.

Calcium carbonate was combined with calcium sulfate dihydrate and the mixture was calcined (heated) at 300 degF for about an hour to convert the calcium sulfate to a hemihydrate. When combined with water, the calcium sulfate becomes a dihydrate again and the mixture hardens - a.k.a "Plaster of Paris". The calcium carbonate was doped with manganese and lead so that it would fluoresce under UVc.
The sample in the upper left was made with hardware store plaster of paris mix (also contained CaCO3 and SiO2). The upper right sample was made using hardware store garden gypsum which had to be rinsed to remove additives. The lower left sample was made using home made calcium sulfate by combining solutions of calcium chloride and sodium sulfate. The lower right sample was made using 15ml of the hardware store plaster of paris mix and approx. 30 mmol of CaCO3:Mn(3%),Pb(1%).

On aluminum trays, salt, sulfur and zinc chloride solution containing trace amounts of copper chloride were combined. The sample was then well heated with a MAPP torch until the salt had melted and drained off the tray, freezing into these blob shapes.

Calcium sulfide phosphors made using Plaster of Paris and sugar. 15 mL of Plaster of Paris was hydrated with about 1 mL of sugar dissolved into 7.5mL of water along with a small amount of an activator (cupric chloride on the left, manganese sulfate on the right). After the plaster had set it was heated until yellow orange incandescensce using a MAPP gas torch. The top layer was then scraped away to reveal the interiors of the samples.
Heating the calcium sulfate in the Plaster of Paris along with sugar (carbon) reduced the sulfate to sulfide.
